remastered, re-packaged, deluxe, super legacy edition
jimtweedy1977 replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've actually gotten annoyed with the Queen releases. It seems like every year they're rereleasing some greatest hits package or some boxed set. I thought the rereleased and remastered versions from the early '90s always sounded fine. I wish what they would have done recently was to release a collection with all of the bonus tracks from the early 90's reissues and the new bonus tracks as a rarities boxed set. now that I would have picked up. it would have been a nice companion to the Platinum Collection. The Pavement reissues that Matador has put out have been pretty nice. I'm still w -
Actually, they're trying to sell off all those tote bags they've collected from NPR over the years.

Hopefully you didn't encounter any dead beavers this time. Or maybe that's only in Poughkeepsie. But I'm glad you had a great time.

recommend some good podcasts...

Most of the time, I don't pay much attention to Jim because I've found a long time ago that I can't trust his judgement in music anymore. Granted, I have some musical skeletons in my closet, but I would never force them upon an unsuspecting public. For those who love This American Life, there's a great app where you can listen to shows all the way back to the show's creation in 1995. -

Sound Opinions and This American Life are definitely at the top of my list. I do enjoy Wait Wait and Car Talk. The Moth Podcast is also a pretty cool podcast, although a bit short. -
Currently reading a book called Going Down The Road: A Grateful Dead Traveling Companion. I want to tackle Band of Brothers next. I'm also currently listening to Girl With The Dragon Tattoo through Audible. Frankly, after seeing the movies, I found the book a bit boring and more detailed than necessary.

100s & 100s of Wilco tickets in the hands of scalpers
jimtweedy1977 replied to Divemistress of the Dark's topic in Just A Fan
This is the first time I'll be seeing a show on the day the album is released. It would be awesome if I could find a way to get the band to sign my copy of the album. I wonder how much of the new album they'll play that night. -

Thanks for your kind thoughts! I had my GPS taken. The guy tried to take my stereo but he got scared off by my neighbor. -

100s & 100s of Wilco tickets in the hands of scalpers
jimtweedy1977 replied to Divemistress of the Dark's topic in Just A Fan
I figured I would give it a shot tonight to see if I could still get tickets for the raleigh show on the 27th of september. I managed to get a ticket in section 2 of row dd at the ampitheater. yay! my first wilco show in 3 years (way overdue). it is good news after having my car broken into this weekend. -
I listened to the show on Friday. I thought the version of Miunderstood was one of the best I've ever heard. Did Glenn have a gong onstage? I could have sworn I heard a gong crash at the beginning of I'm the Man.

As long as folks like Louie and A-Man and Kidsmoke are around, this place will never die.

I know that Sprawl 2 is kicking my ass at the moment. I could drive around all day listening to that song. -
I streamed the Eddie Vedder record and found it to be a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

I'm not sure if they're doing the whole tour with them, but Dawes is opening for Alison Krauss & Union Station in Charlottesville July 30

By the way, I was listening to the talk show on the Pearl Jam channel on XM, can't remember what it's called, but it sounds like their ticketing system broke down in the midst of these presales. I'm would have to guess this what it was about as they are not touring extensively this year and I didn't hear the whole story. Anybody else heard about this. Although this is nowhere near the fiasco they had with ticketing back in '95 in their dispute with Ticketmaster, it is still a frustrating situation for them as they try to honor the loyalty of their long term fans.

I'm actually excited about this. If the soundtrack for this is like for any of Crowe's other films, it won't be just packaged with hits, but will probably feature rare and alternate versions, as well as unreleased tracks. I wonder if the former drummers, especially Jack Irons, are being interviewed or will be featured.

I totally dig the 'Little Red Rooster' from the Crimson White & Indigo show. I've never cared for Brett's stuff all that much as his original tunes and even his singing is too Micheal McDonald for me. However, the way he bares his soul on that version of Rooster gives me more respect for him. I just finished listening to to the Oakland show from 12/16/86 this past weekend. The 'Eyes' from this show is played much faster than I have ever heard it played. The intro almost chugs along like a train. Interesting, not my favorite arrangement of the tune, but interesting nontheless.

Actually, 'Coalminers' was a Jay selection, not a Jeff one. I would definitely suggest checking out Man In the Sand if you haven't already. Jeff is clearly uncomfortable with the political agenda that Billy Bragg had for the Mermaid Avenue album and didn't make much effort to disguise his displeasure. I don't even think Woody Guthrie saw himself as political as Billy Bragg was trying to make him out to be. As the difficulty Dylan faced during the 60's, Guthrie was merely refecting upon what he saw from his perspective about the times and people who didn't have enough imagination of their ow

I had my doubts at first then heard it and found I liked it. While I'm not crazy about the first half either, I found the disc works very well on a late night drive. My favorite track is 'give up the ghost'

Most Beautiful Songs that Break Your Heart
jimtweedy1977 replied to sgtpepper64's topic in Someone Else's Song
Father & Son-Cat Stevens. Although my father and I have a great relationship, This song still gets to me, perhaps because of the way he sings it; it's pleading when he sings "when I try to explain, he turns and walks away from me" then the lip starts to quiver and the tears begin. I'm getting misty-eyed right now just thinking about it. Trouble-Cat Stevens. Anyone who has seen Harold & Maude knows why this song would bring on the waterworks. But this movie also introduced me to Cat Stevens. Pretty Girl At the Airport-Avett Brothers. I feel their pain. Perfect Circle-R.E.M. Fr
