  1. Is it just me or is there a Big Star influence on this record?
  2. Sarah, it's about 50 minutes long. I want to thank Wilco for being so generous to share this with us so far ahead of time. It is an album that will have to grow on me. "I Hate It Here" is a standout to me, too. While I'm not so convinced by the opening of "Shake It Off", I love the guitar work on the end of the song. "What Light" is also a favorite for me too. While it's definitely a more mellow album than I was expecting, it also has moments of pure beauty. I would agree that John's bass work is fantastic on this record. I can't say that I will listen to this album more or less tha
  3. just when I thought I had things figured out, that whole thing with Desmond rescuing Charlie really threw me off course. Aaaaarrrrrghhhh! Did I miss something last week or earlier in the season?
  4. Happy Belated Birthday! Hope it was a good one.
  5. You love me! You really do love me! In all sincerity, thanks for the kind words and thoughts. They are definitely appreciated. I had a pretty good birthday. I had to work and go to class, but I had dinner with some friends from work afterwards and I got an ipod this past weekend, so overall it was nice. Although I'm not around as much these days, I do miss you guys. Hopefully we'll bump into each other during concerts this year.
  6. That's definitely 80's, 88 I think. What about 'Love Song' by Tesla? Is that 80's or 90's? 'Home Sweet Home' (1990 version) is pretty frickin' sweet too.
  7. "Pretty Girl At The Airport" by Avett Brothers This song makes me shed a few tears when I hear it, but it's so pretty.
  8. i'm so proud of the Charlottesville crowd; it made for a very enjoyable evening. even the shout outs were more amusing than annoying. I thought about yelling out for 'Pecan Pie' but I thought better of it. Plus, this was my first trip to the Paramount and I was impressed with it. Kudos to those who fought to save it all those years ago, your efforts are appreciated. We need more historical buildings like this to be preserved. Plus, every seat seemed to be a good seat; I was up in the balcony and still had a good view. Good sound, good rapport with the audience, good song selection. love
  9. i'll be headed there tonight. i'm planning on grabbing grub at Christian's (pizza joint) beforehand. i'll be wearing a gray wool cap and a green jacket and plan on being there around 6:45-7ish if anyone wants to meet me.
  10. Guided By Voices-Self Inflicted Ariael Nostalgia (I know that's misspelled) & Same Place The Fly Got Smashed
  11. Talking Heads-Once In A Lifetime. Seriously, how did I overlook these guys for so long? I need a good Frank Contsanza slap to the head.
  12. I definitely like Brighten The Corners as well.
  13. Congrats to John & the missus. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing The Autumn Defense again.
  14. Clifford Brown & Max Roach-self-titled. Although I got a copy of this a while back, this is the first listen. This is perfect late night music. It swings but it's also really mellow.
  15. just finished listening to these cds today: The Best of James Talking Heads: Sand In the Vaseline. I'm now a talking heads convert. How I've never listened to them before I don't know. But I've learned the truth. Favorite track: 'Blind'
  16. Beulah-The Handsome Western States, When Your Heartstrings Break, The Coast Is Never Clear
  17. Although I'm not going to be able to go these shows (1.sold out 2.Folks in town for the weekend ), I thought it would be fun to take guesses at what will be played each night. As we've seen for the last tour ending shows at Auditorium, the usual setlists go out the window. So here's what would be cool to hear: Friday Night's Show Something In The Air (Thunderclap Newman cover) The Late Greats Let's Not Get Carried Away I'm The Man Who Loves You Kicking Television Spiders (Kidsmoke) I Am Trying To Break Your Heart In A Future Age Impossible Germany Poor Places Hell Is Chrome Theologians
  18. The Minus 5 The Handsome Family Preston School of Industry (all of them seemed to have fun playing together)
  19. Favorite Minus 5 tune, "The Ballad of Only You & Can Prevent Forest Fires", without a hint of hesitation
  20. I've been listening to them for a couple of months now but I want to definitely emphasize The Avett Brothers. If you get a chance to see them, do not miss the opportunity. Your throat will hurt from all the cheering and your face will hurt from all the smiling, but it's all worth it in the end. I would recommend Live Volume 2 (there is no volume one, just funny titling and somewhat reflective of their live sound) and Mignonette (studio album). Their latest EP, the Gleam is a quieter disc, but has some nice tunes, especially 'When I Drink'.
  21. That's the way it started off in PA too. I guess that's the most recent incarnation. Of course, if it ends up on the next album, i'm sure it'll sound different even then too.
  22. It was my first time to hear Impossible Germany and I loved it. I'd be really disappointed if it doesn't make the album. It's so different from what they've done on the last two albums, just straightforward, yet completely beautiful. Let's Not Get Carried Away, just a fun song. It's about time Glenn got a drum solo. Let him play 70's rock god drummer every once in a while! Show him the love, yo.
  23. I'm surprised no one mentioned this one: "Trouble" by Cat Stevens. I wouldn't say it's the saddest song but there's definitely some baggage in that song.
  24. Radiohead would probably be my number two favorite band; favorite album-The Bends I have heard of the National from a coworker; reminds me of (Smog) somewhat Other favorites: Neko Case-Furnace Room Lullaby Preston School of Industry-All of This Sounds Gas Gomez-Out West Gillian Welch-The Revelator Getting into the Avett Brothers, going to see them in Charlottesville at the end of the month and very excited about that.
