Heck yeah. Saw them open for the Silver Jews this year in Denver. Wow. I was impressed. Had never heard of them up to that point and was pretty blown away. Jews were awesome, too.

That's cool jc. You probably don't dig DSO shows, then. I jear you. I really like catching JGB these days with Stu Allen. He sounds (vocally) like JG from mid-late 70s. I get a kick out of it. I think it's cool that the DSO guy got a promotion to the big stage, too, regarless of how it pales in comparison to the real deal.

I've got Philly shows, MSG, Detroit, Cinci (I think), Charlottesville, and maybe Albany. Just got 'em last week and haven't been through all yet. The Philly shows stuck out, though. Beauty of a Broken Heart was in there somewhere, I thin. Done really well.

I've got a few of the shows. I think summer was excellent, too. Still great stuff.

This always confuses me when folks say this. It's not supposed to have the same sound. When the GD covered so many songs that they did they weren't trying to necessarily copy/emulate the originals. That's hoiw I look at the off-shoot bands. Anyone looking for the GD sound is living in futility (not you, just in general). I enjoy hearing tunes I love by decent musicians. It's the vibe I'm mostly seeking these days and as long as true efforts are put forth from the stage I can enjoy the tunes/time. Coincidentally, that guitar is known as the "Alembic Further" and retails for a pretty sizable chunk. Are we sure it's not the original, though? Ryan Adams was playing the original with The Dead.....

The resort where the shows are is gorgeous. That's the real draw. Weir/Ratdog are there for a few weeks and packages include short, medium, and longer stays with Ratdog shows interspersed throughout. For the package you get shows, flight, room, all meals, all booze/drinks, and a few other perks. Like being on the beach in Jamaica. I'd do it if I could swing it. I've heard some of the Further stuff and it's decent. Nothing to gush over but a=it's accomplished musicians doing tunes I enjoy so in the end I like it.

And the Garcia outtakes cds have alternate versions to the official release (Garcia) version. As well as some other great alternates (Sugaree) and an amazing "Wheel" that had has a different delivery of some of the lines that always turns me on. In fact, there are several alternate "Wheel"s on there....

Didn't hear that but that's cool as it's a well-done album (mostly all GD tunes, anyway). Garcia, Phil, etc. all contributed to it, too. I looked into that Jamaica thing (this is the second year) and it looks like a complete blast with all room, food, drinks included. A buddy did it last year and still raves about it. And Ratdog, in my opinion, gets (generally) better with age, though the Boulder show out here at the end of the summer got a really bd review from most in attendance....

It is a no-win when people place the Garcia onus on evry guy who steps into the lead slot! The giy was chosen because of his abilities, not because he was in a cover band. I'm not getting the under-rehearsed thing, either. They rehearsed for a few months prior to The Dead and play on a regular basis (particularly Ratdog of late). And regardless, this isn't The Dead but a new incantation of folks. It's the same music through different filters and that's how I see it. I don't like the parts of this formation as much as others but I'll still go see them (2 nights in CO). To piggyback on mb about

Good for Gammons. That's where the guy belongs. ESPN continues to get fluffier and fluffier every year. I really like how the MLB Network presents itself and it's programming. Gasbag will fit in well.

I don't listen to that first guy but the last two I thought were excellent. Particulalrly Townes. It fact, it's my favorite of the past year. Liked I and Love and You.
