  1. How will a cap allow the NYY to make more money? I'm confused. How will a minimum force teams like the Marlins to throw money at mediocre players any more than is done right now? A cap has worked very well in the other major sports (the NFL is pretty well run and the best example) and having a minimum will prevent teams being incompetently run by frugal owners who refuse to keep up with the Jones'. Plus, it'll keep fans appeased at the hopes that their team actually has an equal shot at "competing" and stop harping about the money the big-market teams are able to part with.
  2. A salary cap and a salary minimum are good ideas.

  4. It also remains to be seen if it is, indeed, the best money they've ever spent.....
  5. The NYY have not been a "lock" for anything in recent years with their yearly highest payroll, was my point. I mis-spoke with the "plenty of times" deal. I also gave them credit for improving this off-season, which they do every off-season. They are no more a lock than BOS or TB, though, and that has nothing to do with my distaste for them.
  6. That seems like a line I've heard before. Hasn't always worked, either. No one's saying they did not acquire some great players, (and I realize you do not believe in clubhouse "vibe"), but there's absolutely no way they are a virtual lock before anyone's played or even stopped acquiring pieces. Just because they've spent $400 million on a few players means little once we get going next spring.
  7. The NYY have a decent chance of not making the playoffs this coming season. They've done it plenty of times with absurd payrolls. "Virtually a lock." Come on.

  13. I believe my ex was at that show. Western State. Back on track:I've seen Jay with Wilco and thought they were fantastic. A rawer sound, imo. I think they have evolved really well, too. since those days, though.

  16. I don't know but I do know that the logo was designed by a VMI grad and the stitching near the head of the tomahawk has "VMI" worked into it.....
  17. The pay scale is relative to the amount of money that MLB, as a whole, continues to generate. The figure is on a steady incline and the average pay is actually a little below what it should be in regard to the money generated. It is still an enormous amount of money for the average player but there can be arguments made that MLB players, as a whole, are actually underpaid. I realize that sounds absurd but it is what it is....
  18. It dawned on me the other day that Jeff Chimenti (Ratdog keys) plays Brent's Hammond B-3.... Hm.
  19. Thanks A-man. Very nice piece. Great to see the smiles on the faces and that old attitude back. I look forward to these shows. Herring's pretty busy with WSP these days but I agree they compliment each other (he and Warren) very well. Too many guitarists on stage with Weir, though?
