  1. Is impregnating a 16 year old by an adult no longer a crime? Or just not in Louisianna?
  2. I mistakenly clicked "no" in response to "am I an idiot..." (you're not an idiot and yes, keeping it in the car is fine). Keep it in the car. What if you get mugged and someone steals your wallet with your precious insurance card in it?
  3. Besides wether he's a douchebag or not (and I've heard the complete opposite about him, btw) I think he writes some pretty decent and catchy tunes. I don't like all his stuff, but enough of it for me to own a few discs and enjoy them periodically.
  4. Same with the Stones. Somebody should tell them. And those morons from Led Zeppelin.
  5. I'm not sure who to compare him to, but the guitar player was pretty fantastic. They were very good musicians, but their style in crafting a tune is what stands out to me. Non-repetitive, fresh, and innovative. I'd also like to drop the names of: Tony Futado (eclectic multi-stringed instrumentalist/singer/song-writer) Dexter Grove/ Charlie Orlando (Folk-Rock) The Motet (Dave Watts) (jazzy improv-ish Funk) Hot Rize (straight up Bluegrass vein) Elizabeth Cotton (North Carolina Appalachian Mountain Americana/Folk-ster)
  6. Tell me about it. Try standing on your feet outside a venue all night trying to re-sell tickets at an obscenely exhorbitant price.
  7. Another good one. I think the run was broadcat over the radio.
  8. Same here. One of the first, at least. I got the tape sometime in '79 or '80. The NFA->GDTRFB->NFA is typically epic of this era. That entire Felt Forum run (12/4-12/7/71) is very good.
  9. I don't get the distinction between a "regular" show and a "special run" show. Scalpers have an edge regardless. Plus, even if I have doubt about being able to attend a show, I may purchase a ticket anyway with the off-chance I am able to attend. If I choose to. I just don't think a Will Call-only system is the best manner to get around the scalper issue, regardless of a single show or a series of shows at one venue.
  10. One problem I have with the suggestions of Will Call only sales and being required to show an I.D. is that sometimes I can't make a show or simply choose not to go after purchasing a ticket. In these situations I usually give it to a friend or sell it at face value. I like the availability and lee-way afforded of a hard-copy ticket. If I opt out of using my ticket I'd rather see it put to use by someone who wants to go to the show rather than it going to no use because of Will Call. I mentioned in another thread (and I think someone said something similar here) that perhaps printing your
  11. I caught Ekoostik Hookah last night for the first time in a long time. These guys are amazing. Yes, it's "jam band" material but they're very innovative. I like their style. They can turn on a dime in the middle of a tune.
  12. I forgot about this one. I read it a few months ago and thought it was a pretty decent book.
  13. This is as much of an issue as the scalpers themselves. There is no shortage of folks who have no problem shelling out money for tix priced well above the face value. It's simply a supply/demand issue. I'm always amazed at the people who willingly slap down $100+ for a ticket to a concert. I'd imagine the software will become illegal at some point but the scalpers/brokers aren't going away. I have trouble understanding why places like stub hub are allowed to gouge on the internet but the guy holding up tix for absurd prices outside the venue are deemed to be engaging in illegal activities.
  14. Betting against Shane is comparable to pissing in the wind.
  15. I don't think the Twins want to wait. Trading deadline in the middle of the season? They won't get what the can now for him. End of next season? Probably won't get what they can now for him either. The Twins have the advantage to push this thing into Spring Training and are smartly pushing hard. It's not the $ so much that concerns me with BOS as it is the push for the inclusion of at least two of their top prospects along with the dollar figures.
  16. "The agent for Johan Santana has told the Yankees, Red Sox and other teams interested in Twins star pitcher that the price to sign him is a minimum of seven years at $20 million per year, for a total of $140 million guaranteed. The Twins definitely will not meet that price. The Twins did offer Santana his $13.25 million salary for 2008 and four more years for a total of $80 million. The question is, will other clubs pay Santana's price?" http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/12493231.html And, the Twins want Bucholtz and Ellsbury in any deal. Yeesh.
  17. The Dead used to do a mail order for their shows (like a pre-sale before they went to ticket master/box office/whatever) and that usually worked pretty well. They "simply" printed their own tickets through their own ticket agency that they created. Everyone got a fair shake as the postmark had to be on/by a certain, iirc. I don't recall ever not getting tix to shows through that system. I believe Ratdog (Bob Weir's band) and Phil Lesh & Friends still do the mail-order, as it's run by their own ticket agency. In fact, bands like SCI have done this, too. I know my point is different th
  18. If he had just thought of the dogs as very small Paso Fino horses, or very large non-gilled and non-finned fish that walk on land and bark, like most of us do, would he be in this predicament right now? I don't think so.
  19. Books I really enjoyed that left an impression: Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen The Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract, Bill James (first time I've read it cover to cover). A Miracle of Catfish, Larry Brown (just started it but it's right up there with his best. It just came out and was submitted to his publisher three days before he died two years ago). The Old man and the Sea, Hemmingway Gonzo: The Life of Hunter S. Thompson, Jann Wenner and Corey Seymour The Joke's Over, Ralph Steadman The Baseball Economist: The Real Game Expose, J.C. Bradb
