Watched the new Netflix documentary on Bukowski, Born Into This last night. Excellent stuff, even you're a casual fan of or unaware of Bukowski's work.

And 32nd anniversary of one of the most memorable shows I caught: Hartford '83. I can still hear the roar of the crowd as St. Stephen splendidly sprung out of a Space that I can still recall as vividly. I was about 16 and knew they'd done St. Stephen at MSG earlier in the week and the whole place seemed to be on the edge of their collective seat with anticipation. Oddly, the "return" of St. Stephen was in absentia for only four years....

The sound on the album or the live sound of "West L.A.?" Was never a big West L.A. fan. On the boring, plodding-along side.

Those tunes (Built to Last, Push, Picasso, etc.) were all heavily played (the album, of course) at shows in the glory years of 87-90, so it's hard for me to have negative feelings towards any of them. (Except for Picasso Moon)

Ditto! Quirky lyrics, bouncin tune, and I always picture Garcia grinning while he sings it. Built to Last kicks ass, too. Great lyrics, too. "Show me something built to last, or something built to tryyyyyyy-EYYYYYYE...." and dig the midi trumpet sounds. Fantastic.

Saw him last spring and it pretty awesome. Massive stage set-up (3 drummers/percussionists, back up singers, horn section, etc.) and Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea (who had finished their show across town) sat in for 3-4 tunes towards the end. He was wearing dark glasses, too, for some reason, even though it was indoors and nighttime.

I always liked "Celebration". re: "Victim": I really liked it and it grew into quite the exploratory piece. Plus, "Foolish" often followed and I always looked forward to that....

I've chatted with quite a bit of folks who liked Eternity, actually, and a lot of Picasso Moon likers, as well. I've met virtually no one who liked the Phil tunes but know a few that liked Samba in the Rain.....

Yeah, I did not care for these particular songs: Eternity Wave to the Wind Childhood's End Picasso Moon Samba in the Rain And, I often took piss breaks during the Bobby "cowboy" tunes (unless it was a "Mama Tried"). I also feel that "Dark Star" is overrated. So yeah, I have some boundaries....

That Alpine one is sweet, as is the 10.9.89 Hampton Warlocks. I always liked the tune and the midi stuff never bothered me. I thought it was cool most of the time and neat that they were taken a little leap into modern technologies, though I'm a big fan of the echo effect and Healy messing with weir's vocals, too.

The Quintet was the shit. BTW, I have a line (best friend cant fly back east for them) on face tix for P&F shows at Cap Theater end of the month/early next if anyone is interested....

Yeah, I felt bad for Karan but Kimock really shines in this role, waaaay better than his noodling in his own band, imo. Here's another really good show of Ratdog opening for SCI at Red Rocks in that same era of '07.
