  1. Me too, me too... though perhaps a bit too repentant these days.
  2. So I'm listening to Dreamer in my Dreams right now and I've been wondering about the progression of this song. It seems a very dark song to me, with blisters on brains and hanging from a beam, etc. But my silly question is this: was the ending of the song all improvised? After the coughing, which I assume is Jay, and the fiddle and piano that seems to keep the song from ending, are the lyrics also improvised??? Does anyone but me care? I'm not a musician so have no clue about how these things develop but assume Jeff's making it up as the song moves along... He's hanging from a belt He d
  3. Broadway Joe (before he become a drunken fool)?
  4. I love watching football with the boys. Reminds me of watching football with my dad! The Giants-Colts game was pretty good, but damn was I sick of all those shots of the Manning parents, who looked very, very weird. And please, the old super-8 movies of the Manning kids made me want to hurl!! (Sorry, couldn't resist the smiley face barfing)
  5. I imagine Townsend transformed the lives of many of us here. When I was a wee lad, listening to Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Chicago, and Elton John, my older brother was playing drums to Who's Next in the next room. It took me a while to mature in my rock tastes, but eventually I did come around...
  6. Heard this on the radio today and remembered how much I love Petty... Let me run with you tonight Ill take you on a moonlight ride There's someone I used to see But she don't give a damn for me But let me get to the point, let's roll another joint And turn the radio loud, I'm too alone to be proud You don't know how it feels You don't know how it feels to be me People come, people go Some grow young, some grow cold I woke up in between A memory and a dream So let's get to the point, let's roll another joint Let's head on down the road There's somewhere I gotta go And you don't know how
  7. Did anyone mention Doctor Jimmy, from Quadrophenia? Or what about the entire Tommy album (Underture if not)? Perhaps a new thread for favorite "concept" album?
  8. Didn't really want to start a debate on merits of this song for Mermaid Ave volumes. Just hoping some of you kind souls would post various versions....I'm slow on this score but realize this and other interesting material is on the Chelsea Walls soundtrack, which itunes no longer carries in their store! Please, pass on any versions you can (the one I do have from one of you is 1/26/03).
  9. Wow!! Now I really want to make this mix. What a great selection of super endings.
  10. Ok, reading through this thread, I have to admit: I miss the mighty Led Zeppelin. They were a staple before AWATT and now I'm very tempted to put them back on the playlist!!
  11. Tonight, a special treat: went to a fantastic sushi restaurant, sen zushi, with great, great teriyaki chicken and fine assortment of sushi, including what is now my favorite, unagi (bbq eel). Mmmmmmmm....
  12. Well, it's kind of a vacation but I'm also working/writing, too, trying to go into the office here most days..... But at the moment, I do feel slightly fortunate (and know full well good luck is usually followed by bad ) I do love Vancouver Island though!
  13. I love, love, love this song and wonder if some of you kind souls might send some exceptional live versions to the rest of us? Also, please recommend other artists' versions of this wonderfully sad song. The version I have does not have steel guitar solo, which I'm sure I've heard somewhere... Thanks.
  14. If it doesn't rain, tomorrow: San Juan Islands and whale watching!
  15. I'm inspired by the great long songs thread to ask what song endings stand out in your mind, either because of long jams or stunning finales. I've always toyed with the idea of making a great song endings mix. A few for me: Springsteen, Darkness on the Edge of Town Petty, Don't Come Around Here No More Dire Straits, Romeo and Juliet
  16. Just wondering if some of you folks actually watched this thing and if you did what you thought. Clearly many of you don't buy it or shrug it off as "liberal kooks," which is fine. Today, newspapers are reporting that the CIA in fact believes there is no evidence linking prewar Iraq to Al Qaeda. We also have heard that in fact Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. So America invaded Iraq mistakenly, I guess. I believe close to 3000 American soldiers have been killed there. I don't consider myself in the "liberal kook" camp though I find myself more concerned about right-wing ko
