  1. On the Beach Boys Smile link, I saw this about more McCartney reissues. Any big time McCartney fans that can answer a question? It's been a while since I listened to McCartney, but isn't there at least 1 or more song fragments before or after other songs? I want to say one sounds potentially good and I've wanted to hear the whole thing. I wonder if one of these extra tracks is that one? Wikipedia didn't even allude to the fragments. http://www.directcurrentmusic.com/dc-music-news-feed/2011/4/27/paul-mccartney-i-ii-archive-collection-reissues-bonus-materi.html Details of the Paul McCartn
  2. Knives Out has some of my favorite layered guitar playing.
  3. I've streamed about half of it and it is really connecting with me. Instead of trying to do Smile, I get a more Simon & Garfunkel feel. Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to picking this up now.
  4. With the 2 b-sides, would anyone take a track off or add both tracks - in other words, with those 10 songs what album sequence would you make?
  5. I saw them do This is Why We Fight on Kimmel and the crowd looked dead. It just does not seem like a good choice for a single. There really is no strong melody that I remember.
  6. She updated her Myspace Status for the first time since Aug 2007 today saying something like "new song leaking soon." I guess this means a new record is on the horizon. Wow, didn't know(or remember) the follow-up record was said to come out Spring 3 years ago! Hasn't had a new record of mostly originals since 2006, I think. 5 years.
  7. are all these vinyl only releases over the years ripped somewhere in one convenient place?
  8. Anyone get/hear the Class Mythology EP - 4 new Cardinals tracks?
  9. I agree on Courage of Others. They really dropped the ball and I'm not sure there are enough ideas to merit an EP. I think it's important that they regroup quickly to record a follow-up with an outside producer to introduce some change or they may sadly lose any momentum they earned prior to this album's release. COE sounds great, but is so same-y, even down to some songs maybe sharing very similar chord structures, and the exact same vocal harmonies on every song. I get the idea that they may be too cerebral at times and overthink.
  10. I thought it was decent, but not too earth shattering. Really, to me, it sounds like My Morning Jacket if they were aiming to reproduce The Beach Boys' "Cabin Essence" but not quite making it pretty much the whole album (talking about their debut). I definitely don't think they suck. Definitely talented, but haven't done anything to knock me out just yet. Haven't heard the leak.
  11. I just wonder if all his wealthy friends now saying "RIP" actually tried to help him financial or just visiting him in the hospital? This puts a damper on Detox...maybe Dr Dre already has some vocal tracks from him before all this happened. No articles I've seen mention 213 - the group of Snoop, Warren G, and Nate. I really enjoy that one.
  12. I think 2004 is more the band leader's vision. There was a way he sang vocals on the 2004 that kinda bugged me a little. If they do "just have to add something," surely they will also present the purist untouched form as well. Just don't make me pay for the tampered please, make it optionally or something.
  13. The album time length and number of tracks game...let me present this to you: Destroyer - Kaputt has 9 songs - one song is a edited single from 2009 (i think?) over 11 mins, which would put it as 8 songs and 39mins and change - haven't heard number of songs or length at all brought up in relation to this album. If TKOL was the same album, but they added any of their non-album tracks from the past few years: I Want None of This Harry Patch My Twisted Words (any others?) how would that change your opinion of the album? If they had made one more ambient track 4 mins long, or have two more
  14. I feel this way, too. I have only listened via YouTube or the stream I list below, so I may not be hearing the full frequency range, but it seems warmer than The Eraser - it seemed to have a boxed in sound, limited frequency range - like the difference in how Kid A seems to be mastered to Amnesiac. I hadn't listened to IR in a while and I was thinking I was a little let down by that because Radiohead are THAT band that 'opened doors' musically speaking for me with OKC, but I really enjoyed revisiting it all except for those kids on 15 Step. That just kinda takes me out of the track. So think
  15. Yes, the difference between MP3 and WAV price surprised me, too. What quantifies the difference of a non-physical object with no resale value? Because a bigger file taxes their servers a little longer? It's rare to see a normal CD (physical with resale value) at $14. I would think it would at least be on sale at $9.99 or $7.99 when (if?) it is released in stores.
  16. When I reread the statement later, it does not totally exclude another new album recently recorded, it just says as of 2/2 they will no longer record. It wouldn't surprise me if they recorded a new album the day before in one long session. I hope this is true as Icky Thump is not a great swan song of an album. Is the music with his other two bands all that different? Is it basically the same Jack, just different drummer and other musicians around him? I have the first Raconteurs album. His songs sound pretty much like the prior WS album at that time, Get Thee Behind Me Satan.
  17. So what is the point of buying both deluxe CD's together - is that when you get the bonus live show? I agree, it seems there has to be more unreleased stuff than that.
  18. I saw this, too, but then I see that there is a CD/DVD version on Amazon for about $10 more that has a 30 min making of documentary. I am a sucker for those type of things, I love them. For some reason the official Decemberists store does not carry the standalone CD/DVD. I wonder if that doc will end up on YouTube anyway.
  19. I went through a period of listening to him again recently and eventually came across the Tape Op messageboard where some people who worked with him posted a little bit. One guy that said he had talked to Mark not too long before his passing says things are in the works. I would take that to mean releasing what he was working on at the time, but I doubt the guy can totally say that outright - or it could always mean something else altogether. Meanwhile, I still need Dreamt. Saw it at the mall CD store for $18.99! yikes!
  20. I got my autographed pre-order end of last week and it comes out officially tomorrow. I'm pleasantly surprised with it. Somehow they have managed to not stray too terribly far from their trademark sound, yet it doesn't feel redundant. I don't know if it was intentional, or because they may have had less $ for mastering, etc, but the mix sounds kinda buried. You can hear little things going on, but they're not in the forefront like prior albums. The last one had a few songs that sounded "cutesy" to me, but this one is pretty devoid of that.
  21. i have listened to the first few tracks. track one starts off just like a Tom Petty Wildflowers era single. I think "You Don't Know How It Feels." the melody/chords aren't alike i don't think, but the drum beat/sound is very close and then add in harmonica.
  22. have you been able to get through with the 123666 code? i tried multiple times tonight and it never fully worked.
  23. Did the PaxAm orders come with anything special other than the bonus downloads? I'm not sure about buying 3/4. I have a feeling it will be decent, but not one I will get out much. Then again, I always wonder until I buy it...
