  1. He's talked about every music project he's released up to this point. I guess we won't hear about TKOL until the next one comes out - when IR came out they started saying how HTTT had too many songs/was too long, etc. Then again, if they don't really talk about the next one either... I was thinking they were going to tour this year - I've seen them on the last 3 US tours and they always came through Texas during the summer. Maybe they are going to put out another release soon and then tour. p.s. Why is my avatar not showing?
  2. One of the weirdest things with TKOL record cycle is that only Ed and Phil have made a few comments about it. I think all the Phil stuff was asked while he was promoting his solo stuff. Most people view it as an almost solo Thom record, so it would be really nice if Thom gave some context for the release, addressed the number of tracks/album length problem a lot of people have, etc..
  3. Weird that he would be releasing advanced copies to an unannounced album, but I'm ready for him to release a 'real' album of new songs written by him.
  4. Watched the MTV2 airing. They would show one song and then cut to commercials for several minutes - they literally never showed two songs uncut together. I have the order written at home, but I'll try to remember what they showed: Little by Little Codex Separator Morning Mr Magpie Staircase Lotus Flower Give Up the Ghost no Bloom, Feral, The Daily Mail How can anyone not like a song like Give Up the Ghost? What is so weird about it in comparison to The Bends? Watching Feral on YouTube right now. They seem to be having quite a bit of fun on that one.
  5. Yes, I saw that! I have MTV 2, so I need to make some notes so I do not forget!
  6. Well, of course, it's down now. I wonder if it will air on VH1 like the In Rainbows Basement show did. I hope so, so I can record it. I'm sure it's up online somewhere, but I'm sure it's in some weird video file/format where I would have to download some other program just to be able to burn it to a DVD - just not worth the trouble.
  7. Has he actually done the impression in front of Neil yet?
  8. I just happened to catch the replay of this and I laughed so hard. I couldn't believe it when Crosby & Nash did bgv's. He's also done The Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song as Neil and Pants on the Ground. Fallon did Whip My Hair with Springsteen, too.
  9. It's import only (via jasonlytle.com), so the price will be jacked up. =(
  10. Eddie lives in Chicago? I've just always associated him with Seattle, not Smashing Pumpkins and Wilco.
  11. Cool, so I guess the repeats are probably demos. btw - He did sell another album through his website.
  12. Hmm, The Daily Mail has a very similar arrangement to You and Whose Army? - Thom solo piano for half and full band the next. Number of tracks on TKOL didn't bother me, but it's only been a few months and that's already 4 new full band songs either recorded or live. Crazy to think that Radiohead still haven't really done any interview post-TKOL where they talked about their feelings on it.
  13. The AMG made the Enya comparison, and that's exactly what I thought of when I heard Calgary. I picked the CD up for $5.99 at Best Buy. It was on sale at $7.99, and they had a coupon on Twitter that said $6.99, but when it rang up it took $2 off! I've seen his two performances on Fallon and the one on Colbert. Do you think his voice holds up when he's not able to double-track it like he does on his records? It sounds kinda weak at times in those instances that I've seen.
  14. Check out Talking Heads - Remain in Light, or Kid A, whose lyrics were inspired by that. I streamed it from NPR the other day and I think I'll be able to get into this one a lot more than Emma. I just can't make it through that whole album. On the new one his voice goes a lot deeper than he did on the first I think. I'm not too familiar with it, just 1 listen. I will probably pick it up when it comes out.
  15. First and only (so far) MMJ record I bought/owned was Z and I thought it was pretty good. I think Best Buy had it for $7.99 or maybe even cheaper, so I bit. Everything I heard circa Evil Urges didn't really interest me, so I never got it. Sitting here filling out a job app, watched Storytellers, and then decided to stream Circuital. I'm pleasantly surprised. Victory Dance really hit me out of nowhere, but I can kinda see it's relation to Dear God from Monsters of Folk. I think I will pick this up along with the Death Cab record tomorrow. p.s. I quite like TKOL.
  16. Does anyone think Lorelai sounds similar to Dylan's 4th Time Around? The beat and guitar work are very similar, as if it was a song they liked and then decided to give one of their songs it's arrangement. The jazz freak-out is pretty cool, but then I remembered how they spoke of Kid A in the liners to their self-titled and now it's hard not to think it's an idea taken from The National Anthem. I still like it though. The biggest question the album brings to my mind is how it and Midlake's The Courage of Others have very common influences and sounds, yet one is universal praised and one is
  17. fyi - they are scheduled to play on the american idol finale tonight.
  18. I think he spent quite some time with Kanye, and then he also had that other project Volcano(ic?) Choir. One of the rap magazines had a very interesting article on those sessions and some cool pics where Kanye put all these rules up on the wall like "no acoustic guitar playing in the studio," "no social media, twitter, etc." stuff like that. Then Nicki Minaj said something about Kanye watching adult movies in the control room. The start of Calgary makes me think of Enya, the indie rock version almost. ha. Bon Iver kinda fell in with Fleet Foxes for me, not because of a similar sound, but
  19. I have long heard of the Four Freshmen's influence on BW, but I have never heard their music. Is there a track of their's that anyone would hear and say, "I definitely hear the influence on Brian Wilson on this song?"
  20. their performance on Fallon was pretty cool.
  21. I watched The Sixth Sense on FX today and several times I saw a commercial for that Dennis Leary firefighter show and they used Elderly Woman.
  22. http://www.myoldkentuckyblog.com/?p=19388 =========================================== New album comes out today. What I've heard sounds pretty good so far. Hopefully it gets some press. Looks like no stores around here are carrying it, so I'll probably have to order my copy online.
  23. What exactly is that? Weird how some songs repeat on different discs. Why wouldn't they stay together? Also looks like a huge chunk of Smile tracks on the last disc.
  24. I didn't have any problem with Hazards, I thought it was an improvement over The Crane Wife. That one seemed to have too many long songs, and not really cover any new territory from the previous albums. I could never get through a straight listen to it I don't think.
  25. I came across that the other day and was pleasantly surprised. What about her brother's 8 new albums coming out this year? Anyone subscribe? I think I would have if it came with a digital download or CD, so I had the option to listen somehow other than vinyl only.
