  1. i agree and don't understand the bashing of them by Pitchfork, thought Shame was mostly positive. they don't discredit bands who are heavily Beach Boys influence, but 'dog' them for the Beatles influence?
  2. anyone have a link to a pic of the poster?
  3. This is my feeling so far. The hooks aren't as hooky and lyrics not as memorable. The first lyric that is memorable is on the second half, maybe track 7. With Fate, I immediately liked it and remembered lyrics. Then again, it was also my first exposure to the band so I guess Fate basically set my Dr Dog template in my head. I just got a new vehicle and I'm trying to adjust to the stereo, so sonically it might not be represented well to me yet.
  4. i figured it out last week with some help. next goal will be to get the Ryan Adams show i went to in 2008.
  5. too hard to remember what Wayne said. it was very positive and touching though. the Denton show is up on Torrent for free download. i finally bit the Torrent bug to get it, then found out the files were FLAC, which i have no way of burning at the moment. i guess i'll have to download a program that can burn those now.
  6. everything is going up. minimum wage has raised each of the last 3 years (right?). i've seen Radiohead 3 times in the same venue and i want to say the price doubled from the first to last - and having worse seats each time! (this was after they were well established, not like OKC to Pablo Honey).
  7. on facebook he seems to be mentioning older things, so i wonder if he is not going through his prior works...
  8. wayne of the flaming lips said some nice words about Mark (and elliott smith) at the show on Saturday, then dedicated Waitin for Superman to them. the text message was the 'more' i guess. weird to think that something like that could do that.
  9. shooting himself in the heart in the alley behind a friend's house...just days after the Soul legal thing cleared up? there has to be more to this. makes me wonder if the record label was asking him to do stuff he didn't want to do to promote that release?
  10. if you have a vinyl copy of Face Value it's really fun to take a picture with your finger up Phil's nose. ha. crop it so you only see his face. i did that yesterday. if i had photo editing software to make my hand black and white like the photo it would look halfway believable. =)
  11. that's interesting - how did you come across it? i'm not familiar with Earlimart.
  12. i agree with pitchfork on Shootenanny - that record is pretty weak imo.
  13. is I Corinthians his last written song or 309 from the last album? i think the last two All Music Guides both say those songs are his last ones, so i'm confused.
  14. thanks for this. i am trying to find time to read it.
  15. i got on board with Fate. that album cover looks kinda lame from that pic. is their label doing any kind of deals if you buy through them? when i bought Fate i got a bunch of extras, t-shirt, stickers, poster, etc.
  16. i have liked Horchata from the beginning. for some reason to me it's like a poppier Kid A (the song).
  17. i doubt that will happen with an Eels release, but it will probably happen with the Spoon album (they only gave it a 7.6 or something like that). the only way Eels will probaby ever get a super high rating from Pitchfork or Onion AV would be if he kinda went back to his early sampling days, but instead of using drum machines did it more like what Animal Collective is doing. i just don't see it happening with what he's currently doing. he is kinda stuck in a rut - although i think where he is is pretty nice. p.s. to answer my own hanging chad of a question, i have heard you can download th
  18. did he only get the Dylan tag circa Heartbreaker? reason i ask - there is a song or two very Dylan-esque on that album. is it Damn, Sam i'm thinking about maybe?
  19. in what ways are they musically advanced? i think i don't care for tracks 4 or 8. the Auto-Tune is pointless on 4 and 8 is too overtly radio poppy for my tastes. 2 starts off really cool but i kinda hate that super high girlish (unless this is actually a girl guest singer and not Ezra) bit in the chorus.
  20. now i remember. i didn't think I'll Go Crazy was a great song. i don't think i heard it once outside of my own cd playing or them on a late night show. still can't believe they nominated Death Cab's EP for Album - are there really no other possibilites?
  21. think No Line will get Grammy nods (or when do they even do those)? this record didn't seem to stay in the public eye very much like the prior 2 albums (not saying that reflects how good a record is, etc).
  22. even if people are consistent songwriters, if they don't change up much (or sometimes if they change too much - kevin barnes) Pitchfork will pull them apart.
  23. i like to check that site. i didn't know they did some decade lists though. one thing about this record - there really are no rememberable melodies. there's nothing very melodic at all it seems. i've listened through it 3 or 4 times now and can only remember rhythms and lyrics phrases........yet i still like it quite a bit. track 7 - i take that was record at a live venue (not necessarily live) but maybe during soundcheck? i don't know why they didn't overdub bass later as there is no bass presence at all on my speakers.
  24. Will someone with iTunes access check to see if the bonus EP can be purchased seperately please? I don't use it, but if they can be I will just buy the normal version and know I can purchase those down the road if I want to.
