  1. Giving Transference a 7.8 and Contra an 8.6 is ridiculous. I love every second of Transference. I'm not crazy about 2 songs on Contra. 10-20 years from now I know which will be rated higher and/or remembered.
  2. I saw that End Times will be $7.99 at Best Buy. The question is - there is also a Deluxe Edition with a bonus 4 song EP - Will this be in stores like Best Buy, Hasting's, etc? I just e-mailed their Merch page, so if I get an answer I'll come back.
  3. yeah. at times it is like he is rewriting the same song over and over. the first few songs he previewed - one about birds / lines - sounded a lot like stuff he had done many times before. i'm wondering if the bonus disc version (extra cd with 4 songs) will be in stores like Best Buy/Hasting's? i got a feeling they'll have the normal real cheap - probably $7.99 - but they either won't have the bonus disc or it won't be on sale at all.
  4. the whole album is streaming on Myspace. i had heard 2 or 3 tracks prior and was kinda writing it off, but listening to it in order (and songs I hadn't heard) it's sounding pretty good right now.
  5. i would think he'd have to start a lot of songs with the same chord as there aren't a 1,000 chord possibilies, right? i forget my music training.
  6. has anything about a Brett solo record came up recently? i was thinking that would be next before a Spoon album. that was being talked about during the Stranger than Fiction interviews I think.
  7. Robert Pollard - are there a lot of songs that sound similiar to one another - in structure, chord changes, melody, etc?
  8. Jason Martin of Starflyer 59 who also had the Brothers Martin project and a project with his wife. He consistantly put out an album and/or EP pretty much every year for a while. Kevin Barnes with of Montreal put out quite a bit of music, too. He released an album with an EP attached a couple times.
  9. was it Kid A where Radiohead sent journalists music players glued shut? if i recall, i think it still leaked. anywho, i'm anxious for new Spoon. i don't know that i was too crazy about the first single i heard though. i wonder how much they have to pay to use people's paintings/pictures for album covers? anyone ever heard?
  10. I listened to the first single once and liked it. If it's on sale first week I'll probably get it. I was over saturated by them when the self-titled came out, so I didn't buy it until early last year and then liked it quite a bit. Then again, I used gift card money on it so it was like a family member bought it instead of me so there was less of a standard I guess.
  11. thanks. i did stream that ACL performance, but i was working while listening. i think i mostly saw Scott singing.
  12. someone tell which guy is which in the pics via which songs they sing on Fate if they want.
  13. you know what they say - even 'bad' press is good press. i bet that bit got them more attention than the fact that they released a new album.
  14. i saw that on the news - seems like everything will be ok.
  15. after the Radiohead 'feud' thing I decided to get Bitter Tea back out - and, man, it really clicked for me this time. i don't remember the circumstances when i first bought - i think their whole patchwork method of throwing songs together bugged me - but that's much more prevelant on Blueberry Boat if i recall correctly. they are a band that could easily take one of their songs and make whole EP's if they did full length versions of each snippet - you know, have a 5 track EP with the same song done 5 different ways.
  16. This is what I was going to say - he also sings a third of Monsters of Folk. I wonder if there might be more of another'him' by way of Ben Gibbard.
  17. They showed a Paul concert on Thanksgiving and he played a song I had never heard and it was about John.
  18. I looked through this at Hasting's. The Loft is any musician's dream. Question: How do they prevent someone in Chicago ripping off all that vintage gear?
  19. No, I said which tracks NOT including the Anthology tracks. In other words, which tracks had 3 Beatles on it - any combination - after they broke up? I know some of them guested on the solo records - I think George and Ringo were on some of John's early stuff, but I'm not sure there was ever a track that had John/George/Ringo all on one, etc. Paul seemed to be the odd one out at the end so I wonder if he ever had even 2 of the other 3 on any post Beatles work.
  20. I think Blue and Pinkerton are good albums throughout. Green is half good and then repeats the formula too much. I think Maladroit is pretty solid t hroughout. The last few albums I've actually thought the singles were some of the worst tracks.
  21. Vertical Man had a track with Ringo, Paul, George H and George M - or they are just all on the album on different tracks? or further: Has there been a post Lennon death track that featured the other 3 Beatles not including the Anthology stuff?
  22. I agree, Sgt Pepper mono is a revelation. You can tell more time was taken in the mix. One thing that really stood out that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is how the crazy string part comes in and out on A Day in the Life. It flows seemlessly, whereas that transition is a little sloppy in stereo to me.
  23. now that you mention Muppets, i do kinda remember it. =)
  24. really? At that time I didn't have cable, so I've never seen a Maladroit era video - didn't even know there were any. I saw the Green ones and Beverly Hills.
  25. What is everyone's opinion on Maladroit? I got that back out and I don't think there's a single pop culture reference on that whole album. I think that's my favorite post-Pinkerton album. That one song sounds too much like Locomotion though. Keep Fishing should have been a big single, that's a crime.
