  1. As made clear in AGIB reivew and this one, he wants another YHF or experimental record. I think Glenn and Nels are fantastic in SBS because they are being actual musicans. They are usually the skills needed to serve the song rather than doing as they please.
  2. I just check their website to see their next show and they are on the show this week. Yes! http://www.soundopinions.com/
  3. I hate reviews that hate albums because the album being reviewed does not sound like a band's previous album. Seriously, reviewers should know this is Wilco. They don't do the same thing twice. I mean I love AGIB and the rest of their albums just as much, but I don't want them to make the same album twice.

    Nels

The Nels's story makes it sounds like there is tension between O'Rourke and Wilco. I thought so to because of Wilco choosing Jim Scott's mix, but then I read Pitchfork's interview and Tweedy said him and O'Rourke are best of friends. It's awesome that you saw The Singers. I really hope they play somewhere near Chicago when Wilco is not touring. What did they play? and did Nels say anything about his new album?
  5. I like Greg Kot a lot because he has a huge variety of musical taste and his writing is amazing. And I do enjoy Derogaitis, but sometimes he really only likes something that rocks, and he's a little too mainstream for my tastes because of his enjoyment praise for My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, which I strongly disagree with.
  6. Here's the footnotes of Greg Kot's and Jim Derogaitis's show. To listen to the show, it will most likely be posted at the latest by Monday. They have a rating scale of trash it, burn it, or buy it. http://www.soundopinions.com/shownotes/200.../shownotes.html After much anticipation, Sky Blue Sky, the new album by Wilco, has finally been released. As always band members Jeff Tweedy and John Stirratt are on board, and this time they
  7. I think as a closer they should do "Spiders (Kidsmoke)." It would go over well.
  8. I've talked to Kot before and he's not the kind of guy to hype something without a good backing on it. Compared to his counter-partner DeRogaitis, he knows what he is talking about. Besides, I could say the same thing about us VCers that Tweedy could shit on a piece of plastic and we would call it the best thing ever.
  9. Not a surprise because he is a fantastic drummer with Wilco and on other projects (On Fillmore, Loose Fur, Solo, with Nels, and others). I saw him at Elmhurst when he played with their percussion ensemble and it was mind blowing hearing "Monkey Chant" and some of the other stuff they weaved into the spring show. Just mind blowing.
  10. The Eagles suck! And SBS rocks! That person should never write about rock and roll ever ever ever ever ever again.
  11. "Elements of free jazz and yowling rock distortion crept into the provocative
  12. "If you're into music and records, you're going to find more now than ever before. It's hard to really focus your attention on all the bands that are current when you can go back and discover whole chunks of music that aren't being forced down your throat and you can make your own context for. Imagination-wise, that's much more appealing to me." From the interview This is how I feel today as an 18 year old. Thousands of people are yelling that I should buy this or that nowadays. All this hype while I can just back and find all these
  13. Hell yes! I cannot wait to hear it. Here's the link and text from his website: http://nelscline.com/news.html The next NELS CLINE SINGERS disc is all finished. It is called DRAW BREATH and will be out on Cryptogramophone (natch) on June 26th. Of course the band is Devin Hoff (contrabass), Scott Amendola (drums, percussion, 'live' electronics), and yours truly. Glenn Kotche is our guest playing percussion on one track. Here is the sequence/track listing as it stands today: CAVED-IN HEART BLUES ATTEMPTED CONFECTION AN EVENING AT POPS' THE ANGEL OF ANGELS RECOGNIZE I MIXED MESSAGE RE
  14. A friend's dad lended me a copy of SYR 4 or "Goodbye to the 20th Century" becaues he knew I have been listening to lots of early and classic Sonic Youth. I really enjoyed it though it is rather different to say the least, but I do enjoy the liberal side of music just as much as conservative side. But I was wondering what people thought of SYR's series and what their favorites are?
  15. Is this true? or are you hoping?
  16. Your connection to "Please Be Patient With Me" once again proves that the greatest thing about music or any art form is the personal connection the listener, reader, observer, or any audience has with the piece of art. Good luck with your battle with depression. I and most likely thousands of others could say it is hard, but something that helped me and always does is friends, family, talking about my problems, and of course music. I would say that my favorite Wilco song during rough times is most likely "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" or "Radio Cure," and I am guessing Sky Blue Sky the a
  17. Also, if some of you are burning for more O'Rourke, him and Thruston Moore, and some other people- which I can not recollect their names right now-made an improvise noise session that was released last week. It's called "Turn Noise Into Silence" I believe.
  18. No problem. I am just glad I am not totally out of it.
  19. Sorry if this has been posted, but I checked all topic headings on the first page and did not see anything. Here it is from Wilco headquarters, by the way they are the coolest band ever: http://wilcoworld.net/news/index.php "We will be webcasting both of WILCO's upcoming shows from Shepherds Bush Empire in London, England on Sunday, May 20 and Monday, May 21. Sunday's webcast will be available exclusively via the QuickTime movie that is included on the "Sky Blue Sky" CD. You will be able to access the webcast live by inserting the CD into your computer and launching the player. Mon
  20. Basically, I figure that the first lines in the first stanza sums up the entire song. "Genuine/day will come," refects Tweedy's emotion of something true will come soon in a future age. Because prior to the song, there is tons of turmoil present within other songs' lyrics such as "Via Chicago," "A Shot In The Arm," "She's A Jar". So basically in the song he is hoping for all these bad things present within the wind that are destroying his family life at home-"shakes the stairs," and "stabs the wall"-to go away. If that makes any sense.
  21. Six posts in and you already mention your band.
  22. I have only listened to the album three times, but from what I've heard, some songs such as "Hate It Here," "What Light," and "Either Way" are very direct, which isn't a bad thing as some think. Because I think "Either Way" is so rich and beautiful. But I also think some of the songs are indirect such as "Impossible Germany," "You Are My Face," "Sky Blue Sky," and "Side With The Seeds." However, I can't make a final judgement call because I have yet to ponder over written down lyrics or listened to the album many of times. In short, I would say half and half.
  23. I start off with "The Giant Pin" because has a lot of Cline's different styles of him on there. But if you like weird shit get: Edible Flowers (Cline and Devin Sarno) Destroy All Nels Cline Instellar Space Revisted Four Guitars Live (Sonic Youth's guitarists, Cline, and Giffoni) Something a bit more normal rocking: Butch (Geraldine Fibbers) Contemplating The Engine Room (Mike Watt's solo record) Banyan Also, check out some of his first trio stuff, which I am starting to because it's fantastic too. There's tons of records of his and other projects, so find what you lik
