  1. Yea, he could have. They can't all be gems. Does anyone really think that under Romney more people will be hired by corporations? I just really keep trying to figure out what exactly he is going to do to make more businesses hire more people. We know one thing, that in the last three years there are a whole lot less government employees, so how many more of then will Romney be able to fire? LouieB
  2. Good point, I forgot about that when I wrote the posting. As careful as i am about not getting tickets, I do occasionally decide to roll the dice and not pay and it often comes back and bites me in the ass (mixing a bunch of metaphors0. Don't even walk away for five or ten minutes to run an errand or pick up something quick at a store, because chances are good you will get a ticket. It sucks. LouieB
  3. On a much more mundane topic; if you are coming to Chicago this summer to see and hear all the great music and other stuff we have to offer, don't ignore the parking machines that have replaced the parking meters. I know some out of towners won't care because they figure they are never coming back, but city is ticketing the living shit out cars that have not paid up and this includes even the most out of the way neighborhoods. I saw them ticketing people in my neighborhood on Sunday morning when almost no one was on the streets. Chicago is revenue happy, so if you care, make sure you pony
  4. Aren't you enjoying the Whole Love. I still am. Thanks for the heads up on this. LouieB
  5. I agree. In fact up until the last few years, he has turned out exceptional albums. LouieB
  6. While there may be some truth to this, it is really a specious argument. People may like the work that an artist does under the influence, but it doesn't get to the heart of either the creative ablilities of an artist, nor the real source of their inspiration. So many musicans took heroin because Charlie Parker was a heroin addict (for example). Would anyone believe that taking painkillers would make them a better songwriter? Of course there is some romantic notion that we all may hold on this point, me included, but the real toll is just to great to expect our favorite musician to be in
  7. Okay, maybe it isn;t awful. Just not a fan, but then I am not a big fan of any TV drama. LouieB
  8. I wasn't specifically refering to this one actually and I wasn't at the actual club date he played in Chicago just prior to his hospitalization (I was at the Reckless Records in store and spoke to him afterwards), but even the folks at his label said it was a sad affair and that there was nothing they could do about it. At his best (and it doesn't sound like he was at it) Justin is an old school performer who makes eye contact with everyone, so it is like he is singing just for you. He is gracious and controled and articulate. This is the winning combo that has made him a minor star. Doesn
  9. I initially read "metaphysical" and thought, wow, we are getting heavy!! I know his substance abuse issues are part of his allure I guess. I have seen him (and talked to him) many times over the years and he is a really personable guy (It is harder to get to talk to him now I am sure, just as it is harder to get to talk to Wilco.), but seeing someone stumbling around really isn't entertaining to me and so no matter how big his fan base is getting and as good as his records continue to be, I have no desire to go see a talent like his on display with all his issues in person. I never did see T
  10. He is a very talented guy, I just wish he would not do the playing over the recorded tracks thing. I like him much more without that. As much as I like him I htink I have developed a bit of a bad attitude about his constantly falling apart. I know some folks just can't help it, but at this point he has plenty of support and should have learned something from his father's experience, but I guess that is easy to say. I just hate to watch him go through this again and again (and I know his label would prefer he stay clean, since he is a very big artist for them at the moment.) LouieB
  11. I saw him a couple days before he was hospitalized the last time and he looked like shit too. I thought he was faking and wasn't. It is entirely possible that he has fallen off the wagon, but it is also entirely possible that this is part of his act. I agree, seeing someone who LOOKS like they are plastered is just as bad as someone who is. Let's hope this is just part of his shtick and not actually a problem. LouieB
  12. Proust...better late then never I guess. LouieB
  13. The review of her show in Chicago this weekend. Wasn't there but the review is good. LouieB
  14. Amazing really. Life is short. Very sad . As pointed out he did get his day in The Blues Brothers, but certainly played on a whole ton of great records. LouieB
  15. That's not a question, there is no question mark and besides you know the answer....easily. Besides according to those opposing it, gay marriage isn't in tbe Bible so it doesn't exist. LouieB
  16. I remember when they were young; oh yea I was even younger. What happened to the past 50 years?? LouieB
  17. Just heard Wilco in the opening credits to the awful show Revenge. Few bucks for the boys. And "Jesus, Etc" at that; one if my faves. At least the producers have good taste. I was changing the channel as it came on and had to double back. LouieB
  18. As Dan Savage is so fond of saying, it isn't that people who are Christian can't support more progressive political ideas, since many do, but the fact that the batshit crazy evangelical crowd has highjacked so much of the dialogue and has made it look like they speak for all Christians and too few non-batshit crazy evangelicals ever speak up to disuade the rest of us that all Christians don't feel that way, particularly the clergy. Regarding Protestants and Catholics, it wasn't so long ago that the evangelicals didn't even think that Catholics were Christians, but give the Church a chance to
  19. I was a resident of Martinsburg for four years back in the mid 1950s. It was a great place to grow up for a few years. There was a farm at the end of the street. I walked to school past an old abandoned dairy, through a housing project and over the railroad tracks, Parents these days would never let their kids do that. Compared to Romney's positions on just about everything, Obama has been pretty consistent on gay marriage. He has indicated his opinions were evolving lately and so I guess they finally evolved all the way. No matter how he got there, I am glad too. His position is going
  20. I am going to "guess" that he has supported it for a long time. This decision will have mixed results to be sure. LouieB
  21. Working at home. LouieB You gotta see the movie....not much of this great soundtrack in it though.. LouieB
  22. NP....I am surprised Analogman has not chimed in. He is also a WVer. I grew up for a few years in WV. it is somewhat otherworldly. LouieB
  23. Actually this time I noticed they were playing the Mayne Stage in Rogers Park not far from me. Good club, but tends to have more pricey tickets. (Still don't see Vernon Hills on their site but do see Lincclnshire.) I would think it would be a reasonably good show. LouieB
  24. Last I looked WV was still part of the country. Okay so WV is particularly nuts I guess. LouieB
  25. seeing dinorsaur bands (my generation) is a fun experience I suppose. I occasionally get dragged to one of these shows by my older (same age) friends and these shows are somewhat disconcerting to me. Who is in the band? Looks like the configuration you think it is. At this stage there are very few dinosaur bands that have the original members intact. I assume you are looking at the Oshkosh show? Looks like they have a new album out (ugh) but I am sure they will do all the hits just like you (don't) remember them. And they will probably sound better than they sounded on record because b
