  1. This country has lost all sense. totally nuts. LouieB
  2. Well I was also one of the dissers I suppose (fessing up!!) but ultimately if you want to see the Beach Boys its cool with me, just not something I am interested in.(I suppose I would enjoy it once I got there!!) But the fact is that without Mike Love there would be no Beach Boys to have a reunion at this point. You gotta figure that he did the county fair circuit for decades keeping the rag tag bunch together so that there even IS a 50th anniversary tour at this point. So he can be dissed all you like, but you got to give him credit for playing every crappy booking these guys had to endur
  3. Smallish back yard, but I turned half of it (instead of a smaller fraction before) into a veggie garden. I usually grow easy stuff like tomatoes, beans, onions, chard, cucumbers, herbs, okra, eggplant and maybe a few other odd things if I have room. LouieB
  4. This is very sad news, but he had a really successful career. One of the great children's authors of all time. Read some of his books hundreds of times to my kids. The Nutshell Library will always be one of my faves and the offshoot Really Rosie was a favorite at my house ( particularly since my daughter was named Rosie.) LouieB
  5. I guess I meant the actual vinyl EP. Good to know the songs are still out there. LouieB
  6. Nick Tremulous is kind of a flamboyant guy. He is a Chicago based musician who never really broke nationally. I was also at the Double Door show and it was very under-attended. This is a side project for all the band members with the exception of Nick, who sporatically appears with his own group. They were enjoyable in concert. Is the 10 inch still available? It is worth having. LouieB
  7. Wow, crazy. Maybe the law inforcement is just more on top of stuff there than other places, but that is some scary shit. LouieB
  8. That's what I thought too. I don't have cable and I have never seen an entire Mad Men. LouieB
  9. Seems like only yesterday... LouieB
  10. As I recall her saying the sound was too loud and that the musicians were acting like they were old men when actually they were pretty young. It was not a total pan, but considering everything it was less than positive as I recall hence you calling it "pretty positive.) If you have a link post it because it came out a long time ago and I read the review a long time ago too. So yup I could be wrong. I also googled it and got the same quote. So nevermind. LouieB
  11. Ah to be young again......wait, you're 49?? An interesting note on this movie - Pauline Kael panned the shit out of it when it first came out. LouieB
  12. I have the feeling that Paul Weller is just not old enough to get the late career bump and consideration for his stature as an aging rock star. Naybe when the dude hits his 60s or so he will ge tte same kind of consideration that a NIck Lowe is getting. Meanwhile he's just another aging new-vaver not yet re-hipped. I still do like the old Jam records though. We had a bunch of them for sale at the CHIRP record sale and I don't believe there was any interest in any of them by today's youth. LoueiB
  13. That's enough to keep me from even thinking about watching this vid. FYI- the world is not ending. It doesn't mean shit ain't fucked up. But even a Romney presidency won't be the end of the world; the same as Obama BEING president aint the end of the world. People have been spied on by the powers that be since the begining of time. There has been intrigue, assassinations, and backstabbing that long too. Once again, who the fuck isn't concerned about deficits? It isn't good for anyone. But figuring out how to balance a budget that doesn't wack poor and middle class people and doesn't
  14. Going to see Paul Burch and the Waco Brothers tonight. Does that count? LouieB
  15. Uh, no. I am sure it will cross my path on some radio station someday. Some musicians need to simply stick to the old stuff. Being more of a senior than not, it is a sad fact that artists lose their chops as they get older. I am sure not a single member of the audience at any one of these shows is the least bit interested in either hearing a new BB song at a show or buying a new BB record. Obviously interest was high for the original Smile, but that was all material recorded 40 some years ago. the last time the BB had a hit was Kokomo and I thought it sucked back when it came out. Lo
  16. Yesterday - Depressed. Today - Anxious. LouieB
  17. Who wrote it. Both those songs on Smile tarnish the album. But let's be honest. Depth was rarely the BB strong point. They didn't sell depth in fact in general they sold shallow. LouieB
  18. He had a single at RSD. I didn't get it though and it was not selling well. LouieB
  19. Yea, he probably can't tell the difference. The Beach Boys music is geared towards his age group anyway. Always was and always will be. I am sure he will have a ball. The review is a good one. Actually it sounds like a Beach Boys tribute show with a few of the old Beach Boys sitting in. I have felt badly for Brian for a long time (who doesn't). Mental illness is a terrible thing to endure and more difficult when trotted out so publically. LouieB
  20. I suppose if someone gave me a ticket I would go though..... Is it safe to assume that there is a whole section of hired hands to make them sound good? (Not unlike just about every record they ever made?) LouieB
  21. I know I am in the minority here (at least in this thread), but the idea of a bunch of guys even older than me singing a bunch of songs about girls, cars, surfing and partying (and growing up...!!!) seems ridiculous. I know this is a wonderful nostalgic event but I wouldn't go near it either, not even with Brian sitting in. LouieB
  22. Are you surprised? Look who sent it out!! LouieB
  23. In a world where 24 hours is a long news cycle i guess 8 months is a long time. Are live albums better than studio albums? Sometimes I am not even sure what we are talking about here. Whole Love is a very good album. YHF is a stunning acheivement and a career defining album for Wilco and has certainly stood the test of time. It will stll be an important and enjoyable album in another 10 years and the songs on it will be requested as long as Wilco is a going concern. Frankly we won't know if the same is true about TWL for a bit more time. LouieB
  24. I like it quite alot too, but it just came out this year, which hardly qualifies as the "test of time". I find my self humming the songs pretty frequently. LouieB
