Chris Ethridge (Burritos/Int'l. Submarine) dead?
LouieB replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Just now I guess. LouieB -
I don't like the healthcare reform either. I would have prefered single payer and a public option. What's the rights alternative to what we have? Only insurance for those who can get it and afford it? edit-Perhaps the greatest irony of the whole reform is how the right hates the law, but he health care companies (the "free market") loves it. Chris Ethridge (Burritos/Int'l. Submarine) dead?
LouieB replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
I I was joking of course. Frankly I don't trust a FB page for a dead person myself, but it seems to be the only source at the moment. I went to the Wikipedia page to see if there was anything. Chris' career sure fell off in his later years though. LouieB -
Chris Ethridge (Burritos/Int'l. Submarine) dead?

Good to know Gram is staying up to date with his old bandmates... Sad news. LouieB -
one of the great album covers of all time too. LouieB

Funny thing happened with the Devo.....Laurie's staff had been fastidious about organizing everything alpha and format and somehow the Devo was behind a box, not in it. I found it long after a few people had already asked for it and really coveted it. Someone else finally asked for it and I gave it to him, but mentioned I had wanted it and he offered it back to me. I refused. Meanwhile the White Stripes single was well reprsented. They sent lots of them so just about everyone who wanted one got one. Lots of the other hot items were in shorter supply. LouieB

Buck was cool, but the book was kind of cheesy and the flexidisk hardly worth the money. I suppose everyone has collectable items they just have to have, but I passed on this one. I got the Lee Hazelwood, but passed on the MIles which I regret. The Devo concert LP looked cool, but expensive also. I did buy the 10 inch Dave Brubeck Octet reissue with Cal Tjader. LouieB

Obama is going to win, but not by a landslide. Not even close. So if all this shit is wrong as Sparky keeps saying, why does the opposition keep acting like the only thing wrong is Obama in the White House? Once again I refer to the article in the NY Times a few weeks back. The GOP could have gotten a decent compromise on the deficit and threw it all way. Fuck em. LouieB

I helped out at Laurie's yesterday and had a ball. Crazy busy all day. Despite the Reader's snakry cover photo this week, I think RSD still has plenty to offer. Hopefully everyone will keep supporting their local shop the rest of the year too. LouieB

If only...they would put this out on LP or CD. Oh well... LouieB

So maybe we can agree to agree that "jam band" is kind of a dumb title for any band. LouieB

Seeing the Band in the 90s might have been a drag, but better than nothing. Every time I have seen a group with a bunch of hired hands its kind of a bummer, but at least you could have said you saw them I guess. Then again the parking lot may have been better anyway. LouieB

As usual, the President of the US of A is not a fascist dictator so he can't tell every business, all the banks, or nearly any of the fiscal powers that be, what to do. Despite all the right wing crapola about what a socialist Obama is, he isn't at all, The markets are going to do what they do, no matter what he tried to do. Do we need to bring the deficit down? Yup! Do we need to stop waging losing wars that cost billions? That would help. Do we need fair and equitable tax structure (whatever it finally ends up being.??) Yes. Does the President have complete control over all this. Nope,

That's wishful thinking. Meanwhile the Dead did rock in a sort of mellow way. LouieB

This death may have affected more people I know than any other musician in recent memory (Alex Chilton was up there..). It is a sad day. Saw Levon with Rick Danko play to a handful of fans many years ago at the club that became Metro. They were drunk as could be and Dave Bromberg showed up to join the party. LouieB

The Nuge and the Secret Service had a little talk yesterday and allegedly straightened this all out. No harm no foul. LouieB
-
I guess this means Wilco IS a jam band. LouieB
-
I heard on the news that the Secret Service (fresh off of their own scandal) is going to have a talk with Mr. Nugent. I think that will pretty much take care of the problem. No matter how tough the Nuge is, I think the Secret Service can kick his ass if need be. LouieB

The NRA would start losing members if they kick Nuge off the board. LouieB

It is amaizing to think that the original The Band broke up over 35 years ago. LouieB

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Just the Downtown Sound and Made in Chicago serieses are enough to make one want to camp out all summer. Really great stuff. LouieB -
Ted Nugent is an idiot (not unlike Hank Williams Jr.). His music has sucked since leaving the Amboy Dukes and his politics have been totally reactionary for years. I would never own nor listen to one of his records unless it were unavoidable. Talking about killing Obama is is inexcusable. LouieB

that's silly. I saw LIttle Feat this past summer, a band who's records I always liked, but in concert they are certainly a jam band and boring as hell after a point. As with anything labels are sometimes easy to come by and hard to explain. Any band that allows a song to go on for 10 or 15 or even 20 minutes from what was a three or five minute song in the studio is probably jamming. Wilco rarely stretchs a number out to the point that it is boring or includes superfluous solos, so therefore, NOT a jam band. All bands (at least those who are not punk or the members know how to play)

Volunteering at Music Festivals... anyone had experience?
LouieB replied to Lynch's topic in Someone Else's Song
Does the Hideout Blocki Party count. I have done that many years. LouieB -
He was also the Coal Miners Daughter's father. Great stuff. LouieB
