  1. All of which Paul Ryan voted for. He is not a fiscal conservative when it comes to what he wants. No one is really. LouieB
  2. I would guess there are no recordings with Jimmy Reed, sadly, but keep looking. They would be interesting to hear. LouieB
  3. Sounds like a great movie. Gotta see when the show is, It will sell out pretty quickly I would guess but at the moment tickets are still available. Kudos to Light in the Attic for snagging the reissues of his albums a few years back. LouieB
  4. wilco fans aren't any better at cutting opening acts a break. At a Tweedy solo show many years ago at the Vic, practically the entire audience talked loudly throughout the opening set of Archer Prewitt. I guess that is the fate of all opening acts. LouieB
  5. Hey Bob, thanks for starting thisheard about the same time I guess, from Kris, but didn't get on last night. It is very sad, but also sadly inevitable. Von has been sick for a few years and the gigs at the New Apartment Lounge ended a while back, but we can always remember the great nights there over the years. I need to tell this story one last time (or not.) I took Rosie (former TweedysGurl) to see Von when she was about two years old at the Green Mill for a record release event in the afternoon. She was just a toddler and handled it pretty well. We sat in one of the booths by the si
  6. Lots of folks will vote for the Rs. Between the fact fact that he is a Democrat, a black man, waging a war on religion, wanting to turn the country socialist, etc, many folks will go out to vote against him. LouieB
  7. That's what this new thread needs, more conspiricy theories. Obama and Romney are not exactly alike. They are going to be similar because all Presidents are similar, at least all the ones that run that can get elected. There is no alternate reality here, just the one we have. We can want some sort of parallel universe where the banks, corporations, and Wall Street don't control most of what goes on, but that is not even close to reality, so we really have to deal with the one we have now. We all wish that money wasn't a deciding factor in this or any campaign, but it is. LouieB
  8. You got that right... It wasn't simply that the bands were bad, it was the entire show.
  9. She was Jeff's pick at a show he currated here in Chicago a whole bunch of years ago. I would have to say her records are an aquired taste. She was more fun to see in person than listen to on record. LouieB
  10. this is the most important reason to vote for Obama. But clearly the center is the new left. LouieB
  11. What was he doing that was so important? Sorry if my enthusiasm for this is less than it should be. I like the Monkees but their musical and cultural importance is overblown. I like their records and I like watching their show, but then again I was doing both when I was a mere teen. I talked to someone who saw last summers tour and was told it was terrible. Having Mike along might have helped and may help this time. LouieB
  12. Better late than never I guess. LouieB
  13. Good story, thanks. Ultimately none of this Bain, tax, lying, flip-flopping matters. Most people are going to vote as an ideological or emotional choice, wiith a few folks just puling a lever or marking a ballot at the last minute. Those that think Obama is a socialist,Kenyan, Muslum already have their minds made up and those that think that Romney is a smarmy, vulture capitalist, right wing pig also have their minds made up. The rest? They may not even go vote. LouieB
  14. Can you elaborate on this or probide some links. I guess the news outlets I read (mostly the Chicago Trib) aren't covering this. No surprise. Are you sure Romney made the dough or more recently just Bain? LouieB
  15. Brilliant production values too. Its too difficult to sit through that entire vid, but with all the "evidence" that Barack is gay, the guy doesn't seem to know that he also smoked tobacco for a long long time (and may still do so.) LouieB
  16. Sparky is half making sense this time out. The half that doesn't make sense is when he posts wacky conspiricy theories. There are significant differences between Obama and Romney, but they are both running for President of USA which is pretty much a job that doesn't change that much from administration to administration. All presidents need to run the military, kowtow to the banks and Wall Street, and try and run what is a fairly arcane government system that is bigger than any one person. (Even Ron Paul and Dennis Kusinich if they could win and election would end up doing the same old BS
  17. Your right wing friends are never going to shut up so fergetaboutit. LouieB
  18. For significant and widely recognized work, its gotta be Jack White. LouieB
  19. i have known plenty of Jews who were terrible with money. Meanwhile back on thecampaign trail, the question of whether or not one is better off now than four years ago; despite the still lingering unemployment issues, at least we weren't plunged into a depression. That could have easily happened. And if anyone wants to iknow where the greatest support for Obama is, just come with me to the west and south sides of Chicago. Not your most up neighborhoods, but everywhere you go are pictures of Barack in churches and daycare centers as well as people wearing tee shirts with his picture. Whil
  20. The name and the act are all part of the provocation. They aren't really a musical act per se, My quesetion is - what is their name in Russian? LouieB
  21. What a great ethnic stereotype. LouieB
  22. Nothing wrong with any of that type of stuff. Lots to choose from. LouieB
  23. Good article in a recent New Yorker about Bruce. it is probably easy to find. LouieB
  24. In all seriousness I would ask. It is possible that these folks are hipper than the easy listening/vocalists suggested. Then again most everyone (although NOT everyone) likes Sinatra. The 50s weren't really that boring musically. LouieB
  25. Actually I don't think the draft is a joke either. I am guessing we would be long out of Afganistan and have been out of Iraq much quicker too, if everyone was drafted. There would be a whole lot less talk about bombing Iran also. The irony of Mitt Romney visiting Poland where a labor union brought down a regime is also pretty sweet. LouieB
