  1. I bought their album in a junk shop for a buck or two a couple years ago. Never played it since the big hit single is an ear worm anyway. Despite all the dissing of these guys, they are friends of the Mekons and have some cred I suppose in that they are self proclaimed anarchists. LouieB
  2. Having attended most of these and volunteered or sold merch at a few, it has become a bit of a mob scene in recent years. It has grown out of proportion of the space it is held in, but it is a pretty mellow event. The Block Party and Jeff have come a long way since he played in a tent on the street nearly 15 years ago. But this is truly home turf for Wilco, since about all the band members have played there at one time or another, as well as attended events there over the years. Clearly Wilco is NOT going to play two nights. I am going to guess that one of the nights Glenn Hassard will be
  3. In my perverse moments I would like to see Mitt Romney get elected just to see how badly he can screw things up instead. That people want to ramp up more Reganomics is an amazing thing. LouieB
  4. I was sitting in front of a couple dorks in the stands. One asked if Bird was playing ukelele and the other guy kept yelling for Pot Kettle Black (like Wilco could hear him from 150 yards away. I think Bird does whatever he does when he does it, but I suspect he is touring more with a band for this tour. LouieB
  5. I was there as well. It should be noted that this was the largest crowd Wilco has ever played before where they were the headliner and it was PACKED. Not an intimate show, but a real full on outdoor show, heavy on the hits and it sounded good. I sat back in the grandstand and endured the sun for four or so hours. The Congregation was pretty good, although I think they are probably better in a club. Andrew Bird was in full rock mode and did a nice job. Wilco was totally pumped as was the crowd. It was a more suburban crowd than usual I think, with alot of milling around much of the time, pa
  6. Okay so maybe it isn't going to rain. But at least it shouldnt be as hot as it is right now. LouieB
  7. I visited Mt. Airy a few years ago. Fun town. Griffith denied it was based on his hometown, but still. LouieB
  8. Oh yea of course. I have that CD. I really like the UT on the other Parsons tribute. LouieB
  9. Which album is this on? LouieB
  10. Um yea, of course it is NOT. Ooops!!!! I think I have Utah on the brain due to the ongoing craziness with the Mitt Romney near nomination. I know I know, he isn't from Utah either..... LouieB
  11. What exactly DOES Mitt care about anyway, besides BEING President. I think that's about it. LouieB
  12. Well I guess if you re from Utah anything having to do with IL is Chicago. And yes Woody Guthrie was a country artist. Just listen to his cowboy songs. He became a folk artist when adopted by the urban folk revivalists, but played square dances as a young man. He had a country radio show, etc. Folk music is just denatured country music anyway, but the urban folk don't want to admit it. LouieB
  13. I am glad he nails Lowrey for using Vic Chestnutt and Mark Linkous as examples too. That totally blows his entire premise. It really was the lowest blow of all. LouieB
  14. Okay I admit it I have stolen every bit of david Lowery music I own. I have tracked down nearly all the Camper Van Beethoven LPs and bought them used and I guess the Cracker CDs I own are also all used. Those seem to have hit the used CD bins at about the same rate that ther were released. Come get me David. LouieB
  15. The guy from the dismemberment plan says it all. I am at a folk fest in upstate NY so I'll let him speak for me. LouieB

  17. OKay so maybe I didn't read every word. So sue me. I do know what the point is. Some poor student got found out that she ripped a bunch of CDs into her hard drive and so she came clean and some famous musican ripped her for it. She is simply a proxy for all those people stealing music from all sorts of sources. I get that. Ripping people for stealing music is a perfectly legit reason to blog, but he used someone with a name and a story and THAT is what is interesting, not that lots and lots and lots of people go to sharing sites and take stuff. There is just a real lot of grey area her
  18. So a college radio station, which means the CDs came to the station for free anyway (probably) because record companies send out promos to such places in the hope that their music gets played. So they were free anyway, she probably had little or no money to buy these and she took advantage. This is a major mountain of a a reasonable mole hill. So maybe she shouldn't have done it, but as has been pointed out a few dozen times here, it is common practice by nearly everyone. There is every indication she feels guilty about it and will start buying more music in the future. Her music buying d
  19. Can I ask again? Did this intern do this or did she borrow CDs from her college radio station and friends and rip them into her hard drive. Nowhere did it say or did I miss it. Those are two very different actions in my opinion, LouieB
  20. I bought these on record store day. I guess as usual they weren't as big a hit as they were expecting, particularly at the price. LouieB
  21. Let's go back to the beginning and ask one simple question. Did this poor intern really steal music? Is it wrong to borrow a CD and rip it into a hard drive? Somehow it may be wrong(ish) but not really stealing. No one has yet answered my scenario of letting folks rip personal paid copies of CDs from someone else. There is nothing in any of these articles that says that the intern downloaded this material from websites giving away copywritten material. Once again, everyone has borrowed copywritten material, everyone. Mix tapes/CDs fit this as does taping off the radio/TV. Buying bootlegg
  22. Degnerex....I found a couple of Glenn's Capital LPs from early in his career. If you have a turntable and want them I will send them. PM me with your address. LouieB
  23. Okay...so just took a shower....back to this argument. So tell me if THIS is theft, I ask my extended family over to rip some of my CDs, which are gathering dust on my shellves. They pick and choose artists they like or might like and import them into their hard drives. Some are of the artists are dead and some are a live. Is that wrong? Are they stealing?? Am I aiding and abetting this crime? Regarding Mr. Heartbreaks argument. I was one of those people who checked out YHF when it was streaming. I have since bought multiple copies of YHF for both myself and copies for others. I w
  24. Stealing music is when you go to a site and take a download from a site that isn't benefiting an artist. I don't do that, but I do take music in other ways. (Please point out where the used record store/ebay/resell market is mentioned, because I just don't see it. Maybe I am just too ADD, I don't know.) But there are so may grey areas here. I have bought many used and promo copies in used record stores. Is this stealing. How about borrowing an album and ripping it into your hard drive, How about being given old albums, etc. I buy plenty of new CDs and LPs and always have but I also have fou
