  1. I have been going to shows for almost a decade. I have seen multiple lineups, and multiple set lists, but tonight, oh my, tonight. They Opened with a 2fer from 3 different albums. ELT and Shot in the Arm Side with the Seeds, you are my face IATTBYH, Pot Kettle If all their songs were not amazing you would wonder how they could match tonight. Before the first break they played Sunken Treasure and Spiders. They came back with Misunderstood. Those 3 songs in a row would be better than 99.9% of any band all time could trot out. There were amazing rarities as well. Candyfloss, Why would yo
  2. Considering the Grammy's are a pretty horrible event and that Wilco did not win, I found the night surprisingly watchable with the following of personal interest: Ringo joining George and Giles for the acceptance of award for Love Tina Turner sounding good (looking funny) Beyonce looking good (sounding funny) Aretha Vince Gills awesome speech with Ringo presenting Rhapsody in Blue (one of my all time faves) mini Doris Day montage (I am a sucker for Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much) Feist's nice performance Tom Hanks short tribute to the Band and the Beatles Rewinding 20 times to go slow m
  3. 1. Revolver 2. The Crain Wife - Decemberists 3. Pet Sounds 4. YHF 5. Blue - Joni Mitchell 6. Blonde on Blonde 7. All Things Must Pass 8. VU and Nico 9. American Idiot - Green Day 10. Nothing's Shocking - Janes With exception of Green Day who made one spectacularly good album, all other artists could swap albums with no problem. For instance 1. Abbey Road 2. Picaresque 3. Smile 4. SBS 5. Ladies of the Canyon 6. Highway 61 7. Cloud Nine 8. White Light/White Heat 9 10. Ritual
  4. I go to Green Zebra about once a month. They are always changing the menu to incorporate seasonal vegetables. The concept is small plates where you order a starter, middle, and final course. We always share. The chefs choice is also a good way to go. It is a classy joint, but if you plan on going before a show you should not have a problem getting in and out. It is expensive but you will feel content without being full and heavy. Which is very important with all the dancing to be done at the Riv.
  5. If you are in town for the shows and have nothing to do during the day, check out Letizia's Natural Bakery on Division just west of Damen. It is a cool spot with good coffee, bagels and the like and a place my girlfriend and I have run into Pat on multiple locations. um, multilpe occasions.
  6. I can not imagine one of the shows not ending with an Acuff Rose solo! Night 1: Misunderstood Night 2: You are my face Night 3: Summerteeth Night 4: At Least That's What You Said Night 5: IATTBYH - into a YHF playthrough answering all questions as to why no YHF was played the first 4 nights.
  7. Wow! Thank you to my friends in the band for doing this. Just this morning we were lamenting how cold and dreary it was in Chicago and it is only Dec. 10th. Now the winter will not seem quite as long or as bad with our 5 night hangout coming in Feb. And with the Jeff solo show for his kids school, I can proudly say, I love winter in Chicago! I also take back any questioning of setlists I have done either on this board or in my head.
  8. I would root for Wilco to win no matter what, but it is much easier to root for them in the Best Rock Album Category this year. Best Alternative Rock Album contains the Shins, White Stripes, and Arcade Fire.
  9. Super nice pictures. There was also a picture of Jeff and Obama shaking hands on Page 4 of the Front section in Saturday's Tribune. I read the Trib every day, it does not contain Wilco pics with the next president nearly enough.
  10. Very adventourous and brave sets by Colin and the gang. Seeing two shows back to back nights with completely different set lists is something I have conditioned myself to believe was not possible. Nothing against Wilco as it has been discussed to death on this site, but it was very refreshing knowing that going back on Monday would be totally different then the set on Sunday. That said, Sunday night was magical in my opinion. The long songs had a way of winding one into the next. Colin did not even speak until after the 4th song (which was actually the 6th song if you count crain wife 1&am
  11. My advice is instead of moving backwards by trying to convince small town (sometimes small minded) people to love your favorite band, move forward and love them here on the big ol' world wide web (internet) Then continue moving forward to bigger and better places where a smart young chap like yourself will meet (in real life) like minded people who have not only heard of Wilco, but also like them and want to talk about them, listen to them, and go to shows with you. That came from reading way too many Savage Love columns over the years. I apologize. Describe Wilco as cool, everyone will ev
  12. Sunday was an awesome music day at the museum of contemporary art in Chicago. They had a huge tent set up and had 6 bands play. I saw Pat right around the time Califone was playing and saw him stay for The Eternals as well. He is a very chill dude who fits in with the scene. He had an old polaroid instant camera and was taking pics (probably for the Wilco photo contest) The music highlights were the 1900's with their 2 female lead singers and androgynous lead guitar player. They were a bit poppier then their first album. I guess they have a new album that just came out. Kot gave it a g
  13. At 9:13 AM - Outtasite (outtamind) Please let us know if you hear anything else.
  14. Best - Lolla - 50,000 person homecoming with the skyline in the background. Worst - Elliot Hall of Music Purdue - Just a depressing, half filled place with no energy or excitement made worse by the fact that Jeff's mom had just passed away and it was the first show after the lovefest that was lollapalooza.
  15. Just a word of warning for tonight's Leno performance. Almost all of the musical performances on these shows go a couple of minutes late. It has something to do with extended local news going to like 10:37 central time. Then the "comedy" show starts. So if you are planning on watching Wilco's performance via your DVR, make sure to extend it a couple minutes. However, if you are in Chicago, there is a preseason Bears game on NBC tonight at 7 PM. It is scheduled to go 3 hours followed by local news and Leno. The last couple of games have gone roughly 3 hours 15 minutes, then the local ne
  16. Encore at Nels first show back should be 'Helter Skelter' with Nels yelling the "I"ve got blisters on my fingers" line.
  17. Can't Stand It was in a car commercial that got heavy rotation on CNBC a couple years ago. As a financial professionals who has CNBC on all day every day, I would hear "Speakers speaking" at least 3 times a day. And to agree with the last post, I too did not understand the outcry surrounding the VW ads.
  18. I entirely agree with this statement from a fans perspective, because that is what I am. The Indy show paralled the Davenport show 2 nights prior to such a degree where guessing the next song was not fun. It was like I took the test already and knew all the answers. I am sure remphish rocked out at his second show of the tour, just like I rocked out in Indy. But with the potential of the band, why not mix things up while still playing heavy SBS and casual fans faves. With 20+ songs, you can play 7 or 8 SBS, Shot, Jesus, IATTBYH, ITMWLY, Handshake, while still mixing things up. I have nev
  19. My girlfriend was pretty annoyed with him too. I thougt he was just over-excited, like my dog. The show was fantastic. Jeff looked more relaxed on stage then ever, playful faces with the crowd, smiles exchanged with John, Pat and Nels, not to mention the love affair between Jeff and Glenn. The highlight of the show for me was Handshake Impossible Germany back to back. Nels dominates those songs and when they play back to back, he gets quite the workout. It is a physical challenge for him to hold up for the whole night, especially when those two are back to back. The SBS songs sound be
  20. There are a lot of great names on the list already, but making music today no one is cooler than Regine Chassagne from the Arcade Fire.
  21. I agree, the thought of seeing Wilco in an arena is scary, but truthfully I can not believe it has not already happened. When I drove to West Lafayette for the first show of the fall tour, I could not believe a 4000 hall was half full. It was depressing. But the times are changing. There is no question this thing is catching on, I mean this a 50 thread post about STARBUCKS! What could be more yuppie mainstream than that. Oh yeah, PEOPLE MAGAZINE, who also reviewed the album. Wilco is the best band making music today and sooner or later it will be so mainstream that we will appreciate t
  22. I counted 40 nothings, enough to hold a triangle pose on both sides for the necessary time. Or am I the only one who counts nothings while in yoga class?
  23. I just started a new dance that can only be described as the spastic involuntary motion that comes from Sunken Treasure and Misunderstood in the same set
  24. hey thrillcat, I hope you are not like Costanza and "Seven" or you might be following me and my girl into the emergency room at the hospital.
