You're missing what I said completely, I never called them insightful or visionary for signing Wilco. Of course Wilco was already an established act. That's the point. My claim wasn't that Nonesuch rescued great musicians from obscurity, it was that they had the worlds greatest artists and that I am proud that Wilco is in there. ...then it would seem they are no longer true to that ideal. I didn't say that Wilco was the only western group on Nonesuch, just that they were the only ones that truly deserved it. No offense to Black Keys and Magnetic Fields fans.

I have the same thought every time I buy an album on Nonesuch records and slide off the outer cardboard sleeve. With regards to artist roster, diversity, production values, and just plain quality, I believe Nonesuch records to be the greatest record label out there. Whether the artist is a legendary North American songwriter (Randy Newman, Joni Mitchell, Brian Wilson, Ry Cooder, etc.); a composer or performer of groundbreaking 20th century/modern classical music (Philip Glass, John Adams, Steve Reich, Astor Piazzolla, Louis Andriessen, Glenn Kotche (!), Kronos Quartet, Gidon Kremer, etc.); or

whichever albums you like, i sure hope you go and buy the actual cd's afterwards. and i'm gonna go ahead and suggest 'silver & gold' and 'comes a time' because i know they don't get much love round here. but please buy the music and support neil like he deserves.

you're walking to your car humming a wilco song, then look down and realize you're wearing a wilco shirt, wilco sweatshirt, wilco hat and wilco scarf on the same day without noticing it. then you find your car because it's the black one with the big wilco bumper sticker. then you grab your car key from your pocket from the wilco 'a ghost is born tour 2005' lanyard it's attached to and start your car only to have wilco come blaring out the stereo. all while feeling only a little bit silly. true story, happens all the time.

being on the west coast i have only seen the intro, but did anyone else see how adorable ellen page's face was when she said wilco was there while introducing the show? what a cutie.

as an immense and devoted tom waits fan i surprised myself by being mildly indifferent towards this release, but covering Fawn?? really?? does scarlett play violin? one of the most beautiful recordings of all time, and i'm a little worried to think what scarlett will do to it. she's really beautiful and a good actress, but Fawn? reallyyy???

i saw him for the first time a few years ago in santa barbara when jim james of my morning jacket opened for him and i believe tickets were around $65 with all of the extra charges. as a big fan of both jim and mr. prine, i was happy to pay that amount for nice seats in a nice theater. jim james was great, but john prine blew him away with his experience and charisma. its definately a great and touching concert with a living legend, and easily worth the money. when i've seen bob dylan and crosby stills & nash in recent years, i've been dissapointed because it seemed like they'd lost someth

i just turned on the west coast feed, right into what turned out to be aretha franklin performing but i was trying to figure out whether or not i was on the right channel because it was the same exact show as those cheesy born again christian 'gospel' shows i see on tv sometimes. as someone who is disgusted by those types of things i was disgusted. anyone notice this?

I was just wandering through amazon.com and saw that there's going to be a fifth edition of Marcus's classic book, 'Mystery Train' published on March 25, but I can't find any information about it at all regarding new material. come on, 7 pages and barely one mention of silver and gold? admittedly its probably not in his top 5 or 6 of all time, but i'd think more people would appreciate it. if you like neil's soft side and don't own it i'd say go buy it.
