  1. Same here. It's probably been 25 years since I read it, wonder if it would still hold up for me.
  2. That was probably my least favorite series finale since "Chuck," which oddly enough also had Yvonne Strahovski in it. One of the best series finales ever was Six Feet Under, so Michael C. Hall is 1-1 right now.
  3. I'm really digging it, definitely one of my favorites of 2013. He pretty much had me by the opening track when he sings: The only words I’ve said today are "beer" and "thank you."
  4. Though I enjoyed the Toronto show more, they rocked pretty hard in Chicago. My only disappointment was they pretty much stuck to the Toronto set list with the exception of 3 songs, so the show lacked a feeling of freshness for me. Minor complaint though. Any critics that say this incarnation isn't really The Replacements, this is as much The Replacements as the late '80s version, just with Freese and Minehan instead of Foley and Dunlap. In my opinion Freese is the best drummer that has helmed the Mats' drum kit, and Minehan is arguably a better guitarist than Slim so one could say this is th
  5. At this point Walter has sunk so low, broke so bad, killed, lied and schemed so much that I have zero sympathy for him. I think I stopped rooting for him quite a while back. If I were to root for anyone, I guess it would be Jesse as he still has some redeeming qualities.
  6. I'm not particulary gifted in that area either, was glad to find it was just a stuck reed. The reed was stuck in the opening where the air blows through, I just slid a small screwdriver in there to lift it out of the hole, then used my finger to put it back in its proper position. Hopefully yours has an easy fix like that too.
  7. I bought something similar last year at an estate sale for $10. The organs fan has a speed dial that goes from "soft" to "loud." One of the reeds wasn't working on the thing so I had to take it apart, now all is good. I wish I found more cool stuff like that at garage/estate sales.
  8. I think that might have been around the time when I first saw them. They were on a bill with Jim Bryson and Ron Hawkins and the Rusty Nails in Toronto playing Lee's Palace or some such place. After the show I ended up buying "Left and Leaving" and my girlfriend bought the Jim Bryson debut CD from the merch stand. Both those records turned out to be two of my favourites of 2001.
  9. Yeah, I'm a big Weakerthans fan too. They did a great set and got a great response from the crowd. John K. Samson was standing about 10 feet away from me shortly before The Replacements set. I have a feeling he was pretty excited to see The Replacements too. There was lots of love for the Mats amongst the musicians there. I spotted J. Mascis bopping his head during The Replacements set, and Lou Barlow said that Iggy and The Replacements were two of their biggest influences during the Dinosaur Jr. set. I'm still hoping I can make that show. Fingers crossed.
  10. The Replacements and Iggy and The Stooges back-to-back. Not a show I'm gonna forget anytime soon.
  11. Seconded. I love my '52 reissue. Plays like a dream, moreso than just about any other guitar I have, and of course the classic tele sound is hard to beat. I love it so much I actually rejigged a solo for a song I'm recording. I originally came up with the solo on a 22 fret guitar, but wanted the tele on the track so I had to play a little section of the solo down an octave, worked like a charm and actually made the solo better in my opinion.
  12. Okay, one more in this vein, this time from the great songwriter Tommy Womack doing my most favorite Replacements tribute song: Studio version:
  13. I love that film. And yeah, the extras are amazing. That songwriters circle at Guy Clark's house is awesome.
  14. With the upcoming reunion this one pops to mind: We really need this one up here too (one of the greatest tribute songs):
  15. This one reminded me of the Roky Erickson doc a bit. Tough to watch at times but worth the ride in the end.
  16. I have the one below, quite a good compilation of early Mac stuff.
  17. Definitely search out his 1969 record Ja, Da a Da! if you can, that one is pretty damn great. Pughish is quite good too, but that first one (Ja, Da a Da!) is the place to start in my opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZXzqEyMzPI
