  1. Been catching up on 11.22.63 over the past few days. It's been enjoyable so far. I was worried as television shows sourced from Stephen King novels don't always turn out so well (still recovering from Under the Dome, which thankfully I gave up on after season 2.) They shot a few scenes for the show down the street from my house. The butcher shop the Josh Duhamel character runs is right beside the clinic my girlfriend works at, and was an actual butcher shop that operated from 1947 to 2015.
  2. He played "Repo Man", awesome!
  3. Nicely crafted guitar pop record. Kinda sounds like the Go-Betweens fronted by Robyn Hitchcock.
  4. I do love Sullivan's Travels, probably a top 20 all-time fave. Thanks for the reminder, have I Married a Witch, totally forgot about that one.
  5. James Supercave - Better Strange
  6. I read that one about a month back. I thought she did a good job conveying Vic's personality, warts and all. It was a nice tribute to a friend.
  7. Jaco: The Film - Interesting doc about the life of Jaco Pastorius.
  8. I was just listening to his new album yesterday and marveling that he's still got it. Damn, this one hurts. I'm still a bit stunned.

  10. Finished the Chrissie Hynde memoir, now onto the Carrie Brownstein one.
  11. I was watching the 10cc doc the other week. Started it too late though and fell asleep. Hopefully I'll get back to it this week.
  12. About halfway through Kristin Hersh's loving, flaws and all look back at her friendship with Vic. I need to pull out some of my Vic Chesnutt CDs, it's been too long since I've listened to him.
  13. Heard about these guys for years, finally checking them out. Don't know about their other records, but this new one is a real nice, eclectic pop record. They have a cool roster of guests on it too: Ray Davies, Andy Partridge, Neil Hannon, and Jeff Lynne.
  14. I have this one. Not sure how it differs from the one you mention Todd. Tracklisting: 1. (I Wanna) Testify 2. I Can Feel The Ice Melting 3. All Your Goodies Are Gone 4. Don't Be Sore At Me 5. Little Man 6. Goose That Laid The Golden Egg 7. Look At What I Almost Missed 8. What You Been Growing 9. Good Old Music 10. Time 11. New Day Begins 12. I'll Wait 13. I'll Wait (Instrumental) 14. 15. Always heartbreaking when something like this happens. I have a friend who lives in Paris, was relieved to hear him and his daughter are okay.
  16. I enjoyed Patti's last book, and this one too so far. The Ernest Cline one on the other hand hasn't grabbed me yet, though I'm only in the early stages. I'm not sure if it's the writing or the story. At this point I think it's more the writing; his sentences are a bit too pedestrian and uninspired for my tastes. I really loved "Ready Player One" so I'm gonna soldier on through for another few chapters and see if my opinion changes.
  17. Yeah, it was the perfect, defiant moment after the rough and crazy first half of the inning. Being a Toronto native, I kinda lost it after that homerun. I don't think I've been that excited about a baseball moment since the Joe Carter walk-off homerun back in the 1993 World Series final. Considering their history with the Royals this season, I expect this upcoming series might get intense. p.s. I see the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo was practicing bat flips today. I'm thinking we ain't seen the last one of the playoffs.
  18. Oh man, this Blue Jays / Rangers game has been insane. Still 2 innings to go too.
  19. American Music Club had some really great records during the late '80s, early '90s. Mercury, Everclear, United Kingdom, and San Francisco are all pretty solid. They were good with the dark, often sad, heart-on-sleeve type of songs. They were definitely mining similar territory to Red House Painters. I watched that documentary a while back. I thought it was okay, but probably something only a fan would want to watch. Travelogue documentaries don't always have enough content for my tastes, though I do enjoy the fly-on-the-wall stuff. I guess I would've preferred something that showed him recor
