  1. So, because Neil went to Trump for money for a business deal, this somehow means Neil should automatically endorse the use of his music for Trump's political campaign. You can deal with someone on a business level that you have no political affinity with, it doesn't automatically make you a hypocrite.
  2. Seconded! That's the one that turned me into a fan.
  3. A good handful of yours that didn't make my list, could easily have made it too: Springsteen (really should be on my list), The Band, Silver Jews, Cash, Kristofferson...

  5. Damn! I've been meaning to watch an Ornette doc (Ornette: Made In America) that I've been sitting on for ages. I guess now is as good a time as any.
  6. I always forget to post in this thread before the show. Anyhow, saw Josh Rouse last night. Speedy Ortiz and Alex G a few nights earlier.

  8. You might want to give Neu! a listen, that is the band that was the inspiration for Spiders (Kidsmoke).

  12. Yeah, same guy. This album isn't as good as his first one, but it's a decent late 70s soul/funk release, with a handful of solid songs. It's definitely a product of its time though, veering into disco-ish grooves on a couple of tunes. Nonetheless, a good purchase for $2. I couldn't resist buying it, as I've never seen another record from him other than "I've Been Lonely for So Long."
  13. Yeah, I finished that one about a week or so back. Was disappointed in how little he revealed about anything. The guys worked with everyone, and engineered/produced some of the greatest records of the past 40 years, but when it comes to telling his story, he seemed unwilling to share anything more than the most perfunctory details. And as a musician, I was disappointed in how little he revealed about his recording techniques. He gave us his mic technique for drums, that was about it. And that info was pretty widely known already. Anyway, now reading:
  14. He's a local musician who has been putting out albums for years. His songs often cover the small, day-to-day things in life that most songwriters wouldn’t think worth immortalizing in song. And probably not all that surprising considering his album covers, his music is infused with a big dose of humor, satire and a touch of self-deprecation. RIYL: Mac DeMarco, Daniel Johnston, Half Japanese, The Frogs… http://exclaim.ca/Music/article/b_johnston-shit_sucks_album_stream

  16. I love that record. There are a few other tracks on it that could have easily made my list. Even the sillier stuff like Little Ole Country Boy is alright in my books.
  17. Such a great short story collection, probably in my top 5.
