Segarini - When the Lights Are Out I actually prefer the Segarini version to the Slade original. I couldn't find the studio version so this will have to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIxT_KKspJg

^^ That's my favorite ABBA song. Love the other choices above too, all great stuff (not a huge fan of the first one but everything else is fantastic.) edit: Might as well add one while I'm at it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JRv6iCCYQo

It's good having Conan back. Though I didn't watch him on a consistent basis over the years, I have been watching him on-and-off for 17 years so it's kinda like having an old friend back. Like other's here, I don't expect his ratings to stay that high past this week*. * I just did a search, apparently Conan's ratings dropped 28% for his 2nd show so he's already below Jay and Dave in the ratings (this was to be expected of course.) Hopefully he can build a solid base over the next few weeks.

A few years back I was listening to a lot of Todd records and bootlegs. He was the one that inspired me to search out Robert Earl Keen's music, Jerry Jeff Walker's too for that matter.

I have a handful of Keen records, the guys a pretty good songwriter for sure. I've never seen him live other than a few concerts on TV. Last week PBS aired his recent Austin City Limits appearance. Seems like he'd be worth checking out if you're a fan. So this verse from Todd Snider's "Beer Run" song is true I suppose: A couple of frat guys from Abilene drove out all night to see Robert Earl Keen at the KPIG Swine and Sworea Dance. They wore baseball caps and khaki pants.

Recently picked up the latest Hendrix remasters. It's a bit weird listening to this, I'm hearing some things I've never really noticed in the mix before.

Yeah, the Stephen Fry episode was great. I like that Craig will do stuff like that, or open his show with a puppet skit, or some other such silliness that other's wouldn't touch. Plus he's the only one that improvises his monologue. His show feels less stodgy than the rest*. * I'd give Jimmy Fallon the nod for 2nd least stodgy as he tries do fun things such as the various games with guests and audience members, and he has the most interesting musical guests overall.
-
I'm excited that Conan is finally back, but looking over his guest list for this week it looks pretty pedestrian for the most part (Tom Hanks, Soundgarden, yawn...) I guess he's sticking with the same tired format as everyone else*: monologue, sketch, guest 1, guest 2, musical (or comedy) performance. We'll see how the week plays out, I'll keep my fingers crossed. * Craig Ferguson would be the exception to this as he mixes things up from time to time.

A week before Christmas is the earliest we put up the tree. Usually we do it 2-3 days before. As much as I hate that Christmas has become a season rather than a 2 day event in North America, my biggest Christmas pet peeve might just be those people that keep their lights on until February or even March. They're called Christmas lights, not winter lights, so shut 'em off you energy wasting knobs.

The 8 Month Old "New" Fall TV Season 2010-2011

I've only seen 3 episodes so far, I didn't realize I was this far behind. I wish IFC Canada was showing this. Oh well, I guess I'll have to download the remaining 3. -
The 8 Month Old "New" Fall TV Season 2010-2011

I was pretty disappointed with the finale too. I'm not sure if they did it that way because they're not sure they're getting a 2nd season, but it definitely felt out of step with the rest of the season. Yeah, I just saw last nights episode. Me thinks I might have to trackdown some older ones now.
