  1. I was finding the whole Gold Medal at home talk annoying too, and I'm Canadian. Thank goodness they can now shut the f up about this. Canada has won 40 Gold medals at Winter Olympics so this shouldn't have been such a big story .
  2. Exciting finish to the women's moguls, even if Jenn Heil came in 2nd.
  3. I'm a CD guy . I watched the 13 minute doc the other day. I never realized that Mike Nesmith had produced the record until seeing him in the film actually. Some cool footage.
  4. My girlfriend does the Lent thing every year. This year she's giving up foods with refined sugar. I think the chocolate is going to be the toughest thing for her to give up.
  5. A dapper dressed Leonard Cohen slowly walking up the steps to light the cauldron. That would be my hope... In reality, as it's always a sports person getting the honor, I'd go with Cindy Klassen (Canada's most decorated Olympian.) Most likely it will be Gretzky as that's the predictable thing to do.
  6. I was listening to that yesterday, though just the Daniel disc. NP:
  7. All kinds of awesomeness! I love the idea of sonically assaulting a captive audience. The guy spinning and dancing was a nice touch .
  8. My girlfriend mentioned AC/DC last night for next years Super Bowl. I could see that happening for sure. Of course they could just as easily go for someone like Coldplay or Black Eyed Peas. One thing we can be sure of, it won't be Wilco .
  9. Another Barbara Kopple film worth mentioning for this list would be "Harlan County, USA." And a few others to add: Herbert Biberman's "Salt of the Earth" I second Costa-Gavras' "Z" plus a few of his 70s films. Gillo Pontecorvo's "The Battle of Algiers" Andrzej Wajda's "Man of Marble" and "Man of Iron" Tian Zhuangzhuang's "The Blue Kite" The films of Hou Hsiao Hsien. Peter Davis' "Hearts and Minds"
  10. Memphis Minnie - Hoodoo Lady (1933-1937)
  11. I do love that album. That damn "House Where Nobody Lives" gets to me every time.
  12. It was my first listen through. I was working on the computer while doing so, so my first impression is a bit tainted. It did seem to have the typical Merritt wit and melodies, but other than a few songs everything kind of remained in the background. I really have to give this a few more "proper" listens as I'm sure my opinion might change, or not. And yes, 69 Love Songs will probably never be topped. It's a near impossible feat I'd say. NP:
  13. So we've learned over the past few weeks that NBC is mostly to blame for this whole incident, Conan has integrity, and Jay will agree to anything NBC throws his way--someone is desperate to hang on to their TV gig at all costs. Who here thinks Jay would've agreed to a 3 a.m. talk show with a panel of monkeys? [raises hand] And one thing we learned from the Oprah interview, the Kimmel appearance wasn't preplanned like many here seemed to think... I wasn't one of them for the record .
