  1. Solid Sound and New Port are the only two festivals i plan on ever going back to. This article depicts exactly why!
  2. As music sales continue to plummet, VIP sections have become accepted as a necessity by many artists and managers. "Festivals are a huge risk to put on," says Buck Williams, agent for Widespread Panic. "Selling off sponsorships or VIPs is a way to get through." "The genie's out of the bottle, and it ain't coming back in," adds Tony Margherita, Wilco's manager. Still, some festivals, including the Warped Tour and Wilco's Solid Sound fest, get by without selling any VIP tickets. "We don't have to extract every dollar," says Margherita. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/why-vip-packages-ar
  3. They had some tunes to check out on their web site and the tracks i heard were nothing special. Writing or musically. But the true test for me is to see them live. Unless they open for someone i want to see, that's probably not going to happen.
  4. For me and VC buzz, i would have to say Arcade Fire and the Avett Brothers are to very good bands that i'm sure will stand the test of time that i learned about here. Thanks for that VC. I really didn't think The Strypes were a band that would hit home with a lot of Wilco fans but i'm pretty excited and can't wait for the new vinyl to hit my door step. I'll have to check out the Pernice Brothers too.
  5. For me most bands longevity depends on the depth of their songwriting and live performances. Granted with this genre of music it's directed at topics that have long past me by. But that said, there are clever ways to write about sex, drugs and rock and roll that keep me as a music fan enjoying and supporting the act. The Stones are a band that has always done that, as well as newer bands like the Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and Tokyo Police Club. Being the young age the Strypes are, they remind me of Def Leppard back in the early 80's after seeing them "On Through The Night" tour. Back then
  6. I'm not sure why the corporate american music scene can't feed real rock and roll to the tween masses with bands like the Strypes. With the age of these guys ranging from 16 to 18 the only reason i hesitate the call them a "Boy Band" is because they have talent! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrF70UrddzY
  7. Thanks for the link Choo-Choo! That was greatness! Only now i have to watch the rest of the show, that i'm sure will kill the rest of this A.M. :-)
  8. Boy how times have changed! ZZ Top used to play every New Years eve in Dallas back in the early to mid 80's And those shows were epic! One of the last show i saw on New Years eve 1983 had the Busboys open and ZZ Top didn't hit the stage until 11:30. Oh to be young again!
  9. This link might help stir your curiosity. http://festheads.com/?fa=festival.details&fid=143

  11. i have come to expect rude behavior from a minority of fans when solo artist play venues that have bar service through out. But when those same artist play higher end, performance arts type venues, with limited bar service. I expect, and usually get a more respectful audience. Being a taper i am pretty sensitive to crowd chatter at solo shows. But i have found the "shushers" at these shows usually more annoying and affect the recordings more then the drunks. This is a old topic with noise at gigs. But because the abuse of cell phones in public, which in my opinion is causing social retar
  12. At the living room show i attended this year a friend of mine from Dallas, who was also there and is a rather accomplished guitar player in his own right. Played that tune with Jeff and really offered a cool spin on the tune with some of his riffs. Jeff shot him a few cool looks during their performance. I would love to hear this version to see if there was any influence from that evening.
  13. I just got a email from North Adams EMS about getting one of the shirts they were wearing at Solid Sound this year. At the festival i had asked them how i might be able to get one, and they had a email sign up sheet at the first aid area. For any one with interest here is the info. dave Hello All: It is finally here, the Wilco EMS Shirt from North Adams Ambulance Service. We had an amazing concert this year and know that many of you had a desire to purchase one of the shirts that we designed and wore during the event. As a result, if you click the link below it will take you to th
  14. i'll buy the reissue for listening and keep my sealed original pressing for investment. I keep telling my wife my vinyl collection is one of her 401K's when i die. Hopefully she won't just garage sale them. Although i have been keeping a accurate inventory and estimated value for her. I personally love reissues of rare albums. If i have the original in my collection i can shelf it and still enjoy the music in analogue.
  15. i really don't get this... I can see how 1/250 should fetch more money but currently it's not. 2/250 is. What makes the other copies more valuable to someone then the next?
  16. Steve Earle's went for about $90 and Lucinda Williams went for around $60 but they only issued 100 so Tweedy's may be a bit less.
  17. I gotta get one of these bad boys for my collection! http://songsforslim.com/pages/releases/nw4028-jeff-tweedy-b-w-lucero
  18. Lucinda Williams tonight and Emmylou Harris Saturday in Dallas! If there is a better one two punch of female singer songwriters on earth i am not aware! Heres hoping Emmylou makes a cameo for Lou's gig. She has the day off before playing College Station tomorrow evening.
  19. Every time Wilco has played ACL they have had a Dallas date. This time will be no different. I have stopped going to ACL because most of the headlining bands team up and play small to mid sized venues around here the week before the festival. I can see two and sometimes three ACL acts in a seated air conditioned venue for a fraction of the cost of the festival.
  20. They are the best Sunday morning lisetning music on the planet. Mellow, thoughtful lyrics, smooth groove. Great band to kick off the week ahead.
  21. This remodeled Fort Worth venue is the place I hope they play in October. http://www.ridgleatheater.com/
  22. i think the gag translated better to those of us close to the stage. You could tell it was part of the gag and there was nothing random about the picking of songs. From my spot i could see him pull the ball out of his pocket before he went to the bingo machine. Also it didn't look like anything was written on the supposed song list paper he fumbled with . I can see how those further back could become disconnected with the bit. But it was funny and different from anything i have ever seen during a rock show. I was just fortunate enough to have has a nice vantage point of the stage to enjoy
  23. Well said Wendy. The comment Jeff made that night was tongue in cheek. LRS are mostly about music but also like a Tweedy stand up comedy routine. For me it's a chance to see the real sense of humor he possesses and frequently displays in his writing. Jeff has the same shtick that he has shown in public shows, only it's amplified with his one on one encounters at the LRS. My first LRS i was fortunate enough to attend, i really wanted to hear "When you Wake Up Feeling Old." But because i knew going in there was a possibility he would choose not to play that tune, i requested two obscure c
  24. That is the easiest thing to do with this free program http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ I'm just glad they didn't edit anything. Use audacity if your feeling like deleting the stuff between songs for your ipod.
