The Crane was fantastic, we'll play there next time we come. For the Beamish alone! mmm-MMM!!!

Tour was a smashing success, made lots of new friends, and sold a boatload of cds! We spent nearly all of our time between Galway and Dublin (Galway is intoxicating)... with a brief stop in Belfast. I blogged a diary of the trip, it's at my myspace page should you find yourself interested in reading...

Very well put. -
Hey, just wanted to post that I'm doing some shows in Ireland over the next couple of weeks with my pals Craig Meyer and Dan Donnelly... we've got about 10 shows booked over the 13 days (I've got info for 5 of them and will have the rest when we get settled in Dublin). Gonna try to do a bit of blogging at my MySpace page as the merry romp wears on, so wish us luck, and if you happen to be in Ireland, hope you can find the time to perhaps pop in and further perhaps buy me a pint of Guinness as I may not be able to afford more than a pint over the course of the entire trip, what with the weak

I think the simple cure is a win today. Time for Maine to find his April/May form.

I totally agree. I think, years from now, in addition to being remembered as one of baseball's all-time great hitters, he'll be thought of as one of it's greatest characters.

My wife just e-mailed me her favorite Golden Girls line: Blanche: My life is an open book. Sophia: Your life is an open blouse.
-
Totally agree Matt, and of course the talk-radio goons perpetuate the insanity, needing to analyze every play as if it were 9th inning, Game 7...
-
It was hysterical... I always got a kick out of how she was 20+ years younger than the character she played. Rest in peace, Sophia.

A sad day for baseball... his 1989 HOF induction (along with Johnny Bench, Carl Yastrzemski and Al Barlick) was the first I ever attended (I've been to every one since). And Steve Stone's right: all of the closers should get together and make an eight-figure donation in Holtzman's memory.

Billy Joel Shea Stadium 7/18 WHAT A SHOW!

wow wow WOW!!!! I was there on Wednesday night and am sickeningly jealous. The special guest list of Tony Bennett/John Mayer/Don Henley/John Mellencamp that we got on Wednesday seems downright sleepy compared to what you saw! -
ssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh.... 10 straight

Show tonite, but I'll be sending Nielsen vibes your way, Evonne! And I agree w/Maudie, Benjamin Bratt is one fine specimen.
-
That's pretty! Loooove that 000 shape.

The Stadium was rocking when Hamilton was doing his thing... it was like a rockshow. LOUD. The rest of the Derby was pretty anti-climatic after that...
-
I'll be there, and I'm rooting for Josh Hamilton and/or Ryan Braun.

All of the above-mentioned are definitely the essential Paul Simon, but The Rhythm of the Saints is a remarkable album, too... as the follow-up to Graceland, I don't think it got quite as much cred as it deserved, but well worth a listen. Surprise from a couple years back has snuck up on me with each listen. He has such a way with a melody.

Just scored a ticket for tonight's Home Run Derby. Look for me in a Santurce Cangrejeros jersey, in the very last row of Section 10 behind home plate (guess the only ball I may be in position to snag is a titanic foul back) Oh, and ssssssshhhhhhh... 9 straight!

The Beach Boys - Let's Go Away for Awhile The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds ...and there's an instrumental version of "What's Going On" that was included in the deluxe anniversary edition of the Album by Marvin Gaye, which gradually builds up just the instrumental portions of the recording, first just Mr. Jamerson's bass and the legendary sax "warm-up" by Eli Fontaine, then pieces are gradually added (snaps, bongos, strings, vibes). It is magnificent.

sssssshhhhhhh.... don't look now (I'm keeping my eyes covered personally), but we've won 6 in a row...
