  1. Ye gods, frat boys? Not what I would've expected. Well, regardless, I picked up my ticket today and will report back tomorrow. Maybe I'll befriend a frat boy! Thanks for all the tips, guys.
  2. Everybody may have seen this a while back, but just in case you missed it, all this talk about Keith Olbermann has reminded me of this hilarious parody from Ben Affleck on SNL. If you're missing Keith, maybe this will tide you over http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/02/saturday-night-lives-olbe_n_140102.html
  3. And not just Jeff, but the dude who does the infamous cover of IATTBYH. And Spencer's band. Man, I wish I lived in Chicago. . .
  4. It's bizarro world! To call that recording a travesty is putting it mildly. I can't recall a more boneheaded reading of a song since Linda Ronstadt sang Warren Zevon's Carmelita like a straight ballad.
  5. Hmm. Well, I do love Townes and Guy Clarke, and even Jerry Jeff, so maybe this is worth checking out. I generally enjoy that style of music, and I completely agree with your ranking. So, I trust you, LouieB! Thanks for responding.
  6. Thanks. I've been checking out a few youtube videos since posting and I'm feeling kinda meh about him. I think I'll just wait and see if I feel like going out tomorrow night.
  7. He's playing locally tomorrow night and tickets are under $20. I think I've heard a few things over the years from him but don't have much of a feel. Anyone here have an opinion on whether this is worth seeing?
  8. I second that! My nephew is a major Phish fan and this is his strategy as well, and he almost always scores. He confounds his friends who are clicking online with no success. Another possibility is to locate a Ticketmaster outlet with restricted access, like on a military base. If you can go there in person you might be able to luck out with a real live agent.
  9. Go here to sign up and cast your vote. Jeff's son Spencer has a blog which I highly recommend to you, and his post last night reminded us to check out Beck's Record Club and vote for Wilco's session. For those not familiar with the concept of the Record Club, here it is from the website: This site is truly cool, and there have been some good sessions. One of the nicest things about signing up is that you can view all the videos from everyone's sessions in one place--looks like about 60-70 of them. Beck's going to release a physical CD of the top 10 vote getters. Right now the voting
  10. I have sold two of the Charlottesville tickets, but there are still two available, and probably 1 or 2 more. (I had 3 friends trying for tickets during the presale, and we all got lucky!) The two that are definitely for sale are right orchestra, Row H, pretty far right (but it's a small venue). The two I'm not sure of yet are center orchestra, Row L. $83.50 for a pair, which is face value + fees. PM me or email me at dkyrus@gmail.com.
  11. Thanks for the feedback. Point taken, though I'm not sure I get the concept of super secret passwords that even longtime fans can't find out about. But I certainly didn't intend to help out the asshole scalpers, so if posting the password contributes to that, I am sorry. Now I'll just leave this topic alone so it sinks way down on the list, hopefully into obscurity!
  12. I didn't get this through IMP. I don't even know what IMP is, despite having googled it every way I could think of. I got it through a more specifically Wilco-related source--actually two of them, independently--and I thought it would be nice to share it with this community of fans. If you'd like to PM me to let me know why this is not OK, I'd be happy to listen. And I'm not being huffy--if this is any sort of etiquette breach, I'm sorry. But this is the official fan site. Why wouldn't we share?
  13. Just found out that the password for Thursday's pre-sale through Ticketmaster is *****. And the show is GA for sure. MODERATOR EDIT: Password removed. Let's not help the scalpers.
  14. Thanks, Wendy. Yep, got all the registration stuff covered over at Front Gate--have bought from them a few times. And I agree that in this theater GA would not be ideal--I hope Front Gate and TM are wrong.
  15. Does anyone know if the Lincoln Theatre (DC) show will be reserved seating or general admission? I assumed reserved seating due to the layout of the theatre, but I just called Front Gate to find out for sure, and they said it looks like general admission. Seems really strange for a seated venue like this. The box office at the Lincoln Theatre is completely unresponsive--they just direct you to Ticketmaster, and the guy there said he also shows it as being general admission. Ticketmaster's website shows a presale date of 11/4, but the guy at Ticketmaster said there's supposed to be a co
  16. I got mine in the mail on Friday, signed by John and Pat. Nice. Not Wilco, but nice. I want to listen to it a few more times before seeing them in December.
  17. Mavis really tore it up on the finale. It was so cool getting to see her shine. I'm looking forward to watching the show on TV, though, because I think I missed some nuances watching on the jumbotron in the midst of the crowd. It was great to just be there, but man, what a crowd. I could actally see the stage, but the view was better on the screen. As beautiful a song as You Are Not Alone is, I don't think it was the right choice for this rally.
  18. I was able to get in on the pre-sale and so were several of my motivated friends, and we all bought the maximum. Now, we may have been a little too motivated and slightly overbought! I know about 2 extra tickets for sure, Right Orchestra, Row H. (The Paramount is a small venue and these are good seats, though pretty far over to the right.) I also might have 2 in the center left balcony, 2nd row--also very nice sightline. Including fees, they are each $83.50 for the pair, and I would prefer to sell them in pairs. You can respond to this post or email me directly (dkyrus@gmail.com) if you'
  19. There's time to change your mind. One of us, one of us. . . .
  20. This announcement sounds even more authentic, since it apparently comes from a National Park Service permit application: http://entertainment.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978640389 Like I mentioned in an earlier post, this isn't the only or even the main reason to come to DC for the rally, but it sure is a nice little somethin' extra. Kudos to Jeff and Mavis!!
  21. So funny! What is it with zombies and Wilco? Remember this from the Daytrotter website--Zombie Tweedy
  22. Don't kill my buzz. I'm on a high today--just got 2 2nd row center tickets for Jeff in Charlottesville, heading up to the rally in DC on Friday, and I endorsed Palin for Prez today. Miracles do happen!
  23. I'm in LouieB's camp with this one. President Palin would be awesome, if you take the long view on politics--as we must. I can't think of any other single event which would so shake up the electorate as that. She would be out of office so fast it would make your head spin--whether through boneheaded decision-making, a scandal, or whatever. I mean, the possibilities are endless! Then, in time-honored fashion, we would all be looking for CHANGE. Time to bring back the progressives. I like it. Let's start a campaign to get that nutjob in office. It's called long range planning.
