  1. I agree. I almost felt sorry for him that he had no control over his crowd and seemed embarrassed by it, but then I remembered it was him who sold out his character and became all that he had previously disdained.
  2. Man, I really like the music on The Stand Ins, but I wish i could get an instrumental version of that album. The lead singer's voice kills me. I felt the same way about The Stage Names.
  3. I posted this elsewhere, but we are having a small get together. Here is our invitation:
  4. Nope. I was at a party with them that weekend and they said it was between Lamb and the one that won out. They wouldn't tell me what won out.
  5. I'll always remember the NYE '91 Tweezer. Not terribly long, but they got into some cool shit and Kuroda really added to it in a very simple way by filling the place with the smoke machine and using those rotating strobes he had back then. It was definitely surreal.
  6. This was after fan voting. It was on the band's short list. If they had kept doing the Halloween shows, they would've played it by now, I'm sure of it.
  7. Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was one of the finalists for the Halloween show of 1998. VU's Loaded won out.
  8. No bad guy. I would benefit more from the McCain tax plan than the Obama tax plan (at least in the short term). But I believe we have dug ourselves a hole and we need to dig out of it. I'd rather pay more in taxes now than pass it on to my (future) children or see the dollar's value decrease to a point where my relative income is less anyway. That's all. And historically we know that no matter who is on office, they won't spend significantly less. So, while I'm with you that I'd like to see less wasteful spending, I don't think it is realistic to expect it to magically happen. So hold your ele
  9. Why are you so fixated on a number? I have no idea. We are in a hole and we need revenue. Do you have a list of specific programs that can be cut that add up to a reduction in spending that will eliminate our deficit without raising taxes?
  10. Well that's what it seems like right now and apparently, from others' responses, I'm not the only one who thinks so. If that's not what your issue is, I don't understand your point. You seem to be saying taxes are unfair and I don't want to pay them for things I don't care about (i.e. children apparently). That, to me, is overly simplistic. There are plenty of things that I wish my tax dollars didn't go to, but to many these are essential programs. Sure government is wasteful, but when we reduce government revenue, we don't see tighter budgets, we see larger deficits. So, until you can provide
  11. I question how are tax dollars are spent too. But that's not what you typically do. You just complain about the taxes in the first place.
  12. You ARE going to see a higher standard of living. The idea that you should simply work less because it will all be taken by the govt if you work harder is just simply not true. Talk about overly simplistic. Also, it's interesting to note that by county, those that typically vote red are overwhelmingly the beneficiaries of government spending, while those that vote blue typically are the ones who feed the coffers.
  13. Oh sure, I wasn't trying ot say the GOP is any worse than the Dems, I was just talking about this specific issue. If Roe v. Wade is over-turned, I could see this being an issue that rallies the Dem base too. And, to an extent, it does now. Just not to the level that it does for the GOP.
  14. Andrew Bird's "The Naming of Things" and Sufjan Stevens' "The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us!" (sorry, that's two )
  15. I completely understand this point of view. I don't share it, but I understand it. The fact is there is no easy answer to this. I like how Clinton used to say it, "abortions should be safe , legal and rare." Those pro-lifers that argue that they are protecting the life of an unborn child will never agree with those of us that believe the decision rests with the mother (optimally the parents) and others shouldn't be able to impose their moral and religious views on those who don't share them. Unfortunately for those who are pro-life, I don't believe you will see any elected official actually do
  16. What's everyone doing for election night? We're hosting a small get together. Here's the invite:
  17. Yup, did you have the refrigerator magnet that had the picture from Red Rocks?
  18. Garcia's pedal steel in CSN's Teach Your Children
  19. Does anyone remember Dupree's Diamond News at Dead lots? You would grab one in the lot and get the setlists of the tour to date and that would be your first idea of what the sets were looking like for that tour. That said, I still remember my buddy calling from a pay phone in Hampton (from inside the Coliseum) on 10/9/89 to tell me about that night's bust-outs! Man, I'm old!
  20. Yeah, ironically, with greater availability came diminished interest for me. Obtaining the latest, best quality tapes was a hobby almost like stamp or coin collecting. I, of course, would listen to each new show as I got it (I collected GD and not so much Phish) and that took up a lot of listening time. With the ability to just listen at any time on Archive or any number of sources, I feel less inclined to do so. As result, my musical tastes have broadened considerably. /tangent
  21. I have contended for years that the Internet caused the "scene" to really deteriorate. I mean bands like Phish owe a good chunk of their success to the Internet. But when I was a kid and first getting into the GD, I had to seek out the kindness of strangers to get a hold of a tape. There seemed to me (and this could be just old-timer "good ol' days" speak) to be less of a sense of entitlement and more of a sense of community. That said, the familiarity with the music would likely be at a much higher level.
  22. Not sure this will change much as I can't think of any releases I am hotly anticipating in the final two months of the year, but I like surprises! 1. Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes) Cloud Cult 2. Rabbit Habits Man Man 3. Dear Science, TV on the Radio 4. Real Emotional Trash Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks 5. Consolers Of The Lonely The Raconteurs 6. Guitars McCoy Tyner 7. Everything That Happens Will Happen Today David Byrne, Brian Eno 8. Modern Guilt Beck 9. Fate Dr. Dog 10. Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust Sigur R
  23. Live Manu Chao The Word (Robert Randolph) A lot of Leo Kottke A lot of bluegrass
