  1. I have a few extras for each night that I need to unload. Happy to take face plus fees (or what I paid to Ticketbastard) $35 each. PM me if interested.
  2. Looks pretty nice. I will have a hard time making it this year, but if the schedule lines up right, I might head down on Friday night. I will miss some of last year's highlights (Flaming Lips, Raconteurs, Ween), but there is plenty of goodness to make up for their absence!
  3. Yes but they are the vast minority and it doesn't serve the public when the majority of the scientific community is roundly ignored by an entire branch of government. Debate/peer review is an essential part of science and will always exist. You can't wait for 100% consensus. (sorry for popping in and out of this so I hope I'm not repeating too much) Besides, where to place the blame is infinitely less important IMO than what to do about it since there is near consensus that climate change is occurring and will represent a problem for our planet/species.
  4. My ex-girlfriend is a PhD studying climate change for NCAR. Believe me, the science is there. The naysayers exploit the differences in the language of science from the language of the media/politicians/general public to create doubt. There is just about as much dissent that climate change is happening as there is that gravity isn't real, but it is still expressed -- in the language of science -- as a theory. Even if you believe humans aren't contributing (although there is pretty good consensus there too), why would NOT do something about it. It's like arguing about who left the toilet seat up
  5. Well not exactly cheap (and usually there's a decent waiting list), but by far the best OD I've used is Paul Cochrane's TIM pedal. If you like the your amp's tone, this is the OD for you. Totally transparent.
  6. I admit to being heavily biased towards the O'Rourke era ... In rough order... 1. Poor Places 2. Muzzle of Bees 3. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart 4. At Least That's What You Said 5. Ashes Of American Flags 6. Theologians 7. Company In My Back 8. I'm The Man Who Loves You 9. Misunderstood 10. You Are My Face Honorable mentions: Sunken Treasure A Shot in the Arm Pieholden Suite Wishful Thinking
  7. Me likey! Where can I get the rest of this show?
  8. The Swimming Hour was my intro to Andrew and while agree with you that much of the album is different, the three tracks that hooked me are very reminiscent of his work to come: Why?, 11:11 and Fatal Flower Garden.
  9. Here are some pics I snapped. The lighting was really dark for the whole show, so most didn't come out so hot.
  10. I was there last night too. Great show. The new tunes really lend themselves to his live approach much better than the older stuff, so I was quite pleased with the setlist. Simple X was the highlight of the night for me. And I really enjoyed Apostle of Hustle as well. The crowd was eerily quiet. Normally I'd say that is a very good thing, but there was complete silence even in between songs. Weird.
  11. I like the album a lot (with the exception of the recommended On & On & On which I now skip every time), but I do feel it is somewhat of a step backwards for the band. I feel their influences are much more naked hence almost every review referring to things such as "Sticky Fingers-era country-soul" and "Beatles-esque blitz of stomping pianos." That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's also not what I was hoping for. I think SBS is an excellent album and has already received a lot of air time for me, but I can't agree that it is up there with their very best ... at least not for me.
  12. Is hot chick who was just in custody for suspected treason, but is now acting head of CTU the same actress that played Audrey in Vegas Vacation? That movie was on TV the other night and I happened to catch a glimpse. They look like the same person.
  13. I have Lounge Against the Machine and while I think it is great to grab a song here and there and throw them into party mixes, I can't imagine listening to a CD straight through. It's novelty stuff for me.
  14. 1. Soft Bulletin 2. Yoshimi 3. Transmissions From The Satellite Heart 4. At War With Mystics 6. Clouds Taste Metallic 6. Zaireeka (mixed, of course) 7. In A Priest Driven Ambulance I don't own the rest.
  15. If you want to take the easy route and go with a mix, I really like the Batch#37 Bloody Mary Mix.
  16. While the iPhone certainly looks sleek, I am wondering if it is form over function. I just can't imagine paying that much money (with no price breaks for service contracts) for a phone that is (other than its sleek design) about two years old in its technology. It has no high speed network and a limited battery life: two things that would be very important for me for a phone of this type. I also don't like not having actual keys. The virtual keyboard thing has never been comfortable for me. I don't even like the Blackberry keyboard types; I need a QWERTY keyboard. I have had a Treo for a few y
  17. This I agree with. I hesitate to speculate (there's enough of that going around), but I wonder if the stigma attached to mental illness played a role, either in the form of a reluctance to act on the part of the family or a reluctance to get help on the part of the individual (Cho). Obviously the guy already felt he was singled out and ostracized as "different." Our culture's attitudes towards mental health issues couldn't have made seeking help any easier. To be clear, please don't mistake this observation (or wondering aloud) as any sort of excuse for Cho's actions. The blame doesn't rest wi
  18. I have avoided much of the coverage of this, but I do have a few thoughts I wanted to express. The thing about tragedies such as these is it provides a platform for EVERYONE and in the public's outrage and fear, they are more receptive to it. I, for one, am proud to live in a society where something like this CAN happen. Of course, I am not happy things like this DO happen. But locking up our kids, turning campuses into police states, banning video games and outlawing guns are all scapegoat responses that trade our freedoms for a perceived safety from a threat that is (thankfully) extremely ra
  19. Arguing about the merits of something as subjective as art and/or entertainment is an exercise in futility... as is going into a thread about an artist or entertainer purely for the sake of insulting someone else's tastes.
  20. Doesn't really matter anyway, does it? I mean it is up to the copyright holder(s) to decide how to best market their product, no? Perhaps it would be wiser for them to welcome music sharing, but it is their right to make that decision and the laws that make music sharing illegal are the ones that are specifically meant to protect that right.
  21. '00s: Rings Around the World (with bonus disc); Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots '90s: OK Computer; The Soft Bulletin '80s: Remain In Light; Graceland '70s: Dark Side of the Moon, Blood on the Tracks '60s: Abbey Road; Giant Steps '50s (for good measure): Jazz at Massey Hall; Kind of Blue I hope I'm right with the dates of all these...
  22. Am I the only one who would like to hear O'Rourke's mix? I feel like O'Rourke's absence is tangible. Of course I am probably not the typical Wilco fan with YHF, Born Again in The USA and A Ghost Is Born as my top three Tweedy albums, so obviously I like what O'Rourke brings.
  23. Flashbacks in remianing season 3 episodes: I guess I would consider these minor spoilers, so ... Sounds good to me!
  24. Is this the so-called "iPod Killer"? I have a 4G iPod, but it never leaves my house. I have been using my Treo with 2GB memory card for my mobile music needs for a while now. But I have always said it would be the most logical next step as broadband mobile becomes ubiquitous to just stream from your home collection. I predict the first versions of this will be clunky and have less than adequate sound (for me at least), but in a few years time (at most), I predict the end of large HD DAPs in favor of solutions such as this.
