People wait outside by the bus all the time. Sometimes Jeff doesn't chat, though, so don't be too upset if you don't see him. It's not something I like to do, though ... it does seem a little creepy, I have to agree. But it's common.
  2. I think they were having server problems. So give wilcoworld HQ time to resolve them.
  3. No, it's usually curfew or contractual reasons that they have to stop playing by a certain time. When there's opening acts, sometimes the shows start earlier.
  4. I really REALLY hope there is some collaboration at the two Chicago Thanksgiving weekend Auditorium shows between Wilco and their opening acts. Friday the opener is Detholz, who have already opened for Wilco in the past, and have joined the band playing horns It was fantastic. And Saturday the opener is Califone, and they utilize banjo and experimental percussion and guitar sounds, so they could certainly add an interesting dimension to a Wilco song or two. Well, I don't know if any of that will happen, but it is certainly something to hope for. And if it doesn't, I will be so hap
  5. Allison, I'm so glad things turned out well ... sorry I missed this thread until now, so I will add some quick healing vibes for good measure! {{{{{{[vibes]}}}}}} Wendy
  6. They're just retail clerks who aren't music experts, and more than likely prefer some other genre of music. I'm sure I'd have a "huh" look on my face if I were a clerk and anyone asked me about jazz or heavy metal or rap merchandise. At my Best Buy in Ft. Wayne, there is only 1 clerk who knows about "our" music scene, and he's not always working.
  7. And I would never go to a concert with Hilter, either.
  8. He's talking about the Empty Bottle show last weekend? He's nuts. I was there, and it was an incredible performance by insanely talented musicians who happen not to be dancing monkeys. They are skinny music geeks with tiny underpants (I believe that is a direct Tim Rutilli quote, I'll dig it up if you doubt me ) I was freakin BLOWN AWAY by Califone (but admittedly, I'm obsessing about them right now). My first Califone show and it entranced me. I was like this for almost 2 hours. I remember hearing that asshole, too - plus there was more heckling (probably him as well) aski
  9. Mouthfuls next, and then Echolocation. Although lately I appreciate Echolocation a lot more because all the Califone guys are present on it, since they were the ones who urged EJ to record his music in the first place on Perishable. And I'm in a Califone obsession right now, just saw them live for the first time (I ducked into the Empty Bottle at the last minute last weekend when up in Chicago for Riviera's CD release show with Healthy White Baby) -- and Califone was mind-blowing. I'm seeing them again in Cleveland. But I like that kind of sound, whatever it is labelled. Percussion
  10. send a PM to Jen and ask her to burn you one for Friday
  11. I love the Fruit Bats, can't wait for more next year (or whenever). I know of only 3 live show recordings, Jen has gotten them for me ... Oct 22, 2005 - Trocadero, in Phily, PA May 6, 2006 - Lakeshore Theatre, in Chicago, IL May 7, 2006 - Schuba's, in Chicago, IL I attended the show May 6 at Lakeshore Theatre, and there is some funny banter with EJ and the audience about The Smiths, as well as a cool cover of Incredible String Band's "The Hedgehog's Song" with Sam Jayne of Love Is Laughter. And from the May 7th Schuba's show, there is a lovely cover of Neil Young's "Tell Me
  12. Nice new website! http://www.fruitbatsmusic.com **Keeping fingers crossed for a midwest date** (from their news page)
  13. I love to watch Glenn play IATTBYH as well - and Reservations ...
  14. Wait. You work as a head chef?
  15. I have given it one full listen (well, almost a full listen). Jen and I were on a road trip somewhere, and a couple of songs really stuck out as being good -- you know, like when you look over at the other person listening and they are looking back at you to see if you noticed how good it was as well -- that kind of good. But it was only one listen and we weren't paying 100% attention to all of it, so I plan on giving it a few more spins yet. I guess I'm speaking for Jen, but we discussed this in the car -- we both prefer his voice as not the lead, but in harmony with someone else. And
  16. Jen and I are coming We rearranged our "rock tourism" schedule to avoid conflict with a ... ... Lindsey Buckingham show, and already saw him in Nashville at the Ryman. Really looking forward to the Riviera set as well as the other two bands! I've never seen Quasar Wut Wut perform plugged in -- I did see them acoustic at Schuba's opening for somebody once upon a time, and they were terrific. And Healthy White Baby always kicks ass. Can anyone recommend any good places near Martyr's to have (a reasonably inexpensive) dinner before the show?
  17. I think Wilco should play a NYE party in Chicago this year.
  18. well, we're a nondrinking gang, so you'd have to join us for The nondrinking thing really comes in handy when you drive long distances home after late shows and get pulled over by the county police outside of Columbus on 33 West going 78 in a 65 ... but this time we just got a "friendly warning" (it actually is printed at the top of the paper ... "Friendly Warning" ) Now, if we drank as much booze as we do coffee, we'd be calling you to get us out of the clink. Plus, would you actually join us? I think I "skeer" you! Boo!
  19. I thought Peter Gabriel was interested in a reunion. Oh well.
  20. omg ... that's a lot of nothin's!
  21. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love to hear a little Hoodoo Voodoo. It's been a while. (but it's really more fun to "see" it when Pat and Jeff and Nels have their guitar duels)
