  1. Definitely felt it here in NE Indiana. I was having a bit of insomnia last night and was just closing my eyes (again) when it hit. So I was awake but in bed. The water in my waterbed started sloshing around and I recognized it as an earthquake almost right away. Even after living in LA for many years after college, I always first think it's a big truck driving down the street.
  2. Oh, my! Speedy recovery Michael! How unbelievably lucky you are to have that health care friend/advocate at such a crucial moment!
  3. You get it early if you subscribe. Which I never did, it was a gift, but it keeps coming. If I had a scanner, I'd scan it for ya. Good article though. Things I learned: 1. I did not know Jim James' real name is Jim Olliges. 2. I did not know Beck's dad, David Campbell, arranged the strings for the new album. 3. Cool story about a 14-year-old Jim James and his mom watching Neil Young on SNL, and he asked his mom to buy him "Harvest Moon." But she bought "Harvest" by accident ... and So there's a little bit for ya. Somebody will probably post it online soon eno

    New Shows

Per Andrew Bird's website, he will be at All Points West Festival in New Jersey on Aug 8, so perhaps he won't be able to make this North Carolinia Wilco show.
  5. And MMJ makes the cover of the May 2008 Spin magazine. In the article, the author calls them the "James gang"
  6. He probably posted it at his own blog (I don't know the link off hand, but it's probably somewhere in this thread). But cool of him to try to disspell some misconceptions about himself, or clear the record regarding tales from the past that have gotten out of hand and then sadly sort of started to define him publicly. And yes, I think you are exactly right that he is talking about hating the corporate radio type country. I'm right there with him on that, too. Edit: Here is the link: http://dradamsfilms.com/

    JT 2.24.07

Owl & Bear rules! So does Wilcobase but I'm not sure why these performances are not mentioned in Wilcobase, since other smaller gigs (political ones, for example) are. There's probably some reason I just don't know. Yes Gabe, they are fans - various members of The Wilco Ensemble, part of the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago created to pay homage to JT/Wilco songs. They won 1 of the 3 Letters to Santa charity auction shows in 2006, enabling them to invite Jeff into their home in 2007 for a private performance. For their show, they splinter off into smaller groups (thus the na
  8. No. Takes a while. Could take many weeks, maybe months. It's not available to anyone yet. So, I'm afraid much more patience is required. I noticed last year's matrix took over 2 months before it was fully up for download. So have faith -- this thread will announce when it IS ready for download. Promise!
  9. Calling Ms. Yvon! That's a Saturday night!!!
  10. What a great birth-day/weekend you must have had!
  11. Oh, look at all the penguins in the audience! That Jay Ryan, nice, nice poster. And Evonne's hotpad! Can't wait to see the setlist! Any new songs??? Brianne, camera/water accident? Noooooooo!
  12. I try to always see David Todoran when he performs in Fort Wayne (he's a teacher during the day and does not perform too often anymore). He took part in a wonderful fundraiser last year for The Embassy* where each band did covers of some famous band, and he did Johnny Cash. His version of "Ring of Fire" was so unbelievably beautiful, the audience of 2500 was hushed and in awe. He sounded sorta like Joey Burns from Calexico performing a flamenco/mariachi version of the JC song. warning - terrible sound quality but you can get the idea if anyone cares to listen. I like that his students
  13. My favorite venue ever! I love The Ark. And I've never seen Nels Cline Singers, so this is fantastic news. Thank you!
  14. Dang it. Spoon is sold out for next weekend in Indy at The Vogue. Damn! Waited too long.
  15. Tug, where was this? I saw Monty Python perform at the Hollywood Bowl ... but it was much later than 1976, probably 1980 or so. That might have been the first show I ever went to alone. My friends were not into it and I couldn't imagine missing it.
  16. Bryan! Hope it's a great one! Thank you so much for the beautiful poster Saturday. I love kites, and Molly & Neil and I saw a bunch flying around in Winnetka Saturday afternoon. And then voila ... there's your poster with a kite! How did you know?
  17. it was so beautiful! Thank you so much, Neil, for playing along with Jeff. It really enriched the song which is TRULY one of my favorites, and you were so good. Seriously - all the accompanists during the show - MattZ and Erin and you - added another level of (I guess) interconnectedness (for lack of a better word) to the event. I admire you all so much for having the guts to get up there in the first place! (I hated piano recitals as a kid, just horribly panic-inducing for me ) As to the videos on youtube ... ... I'll have to get back to you for sure but I think it's probably
  18. We'll post in this thread when it is ready, so like always, patience ... It will go up on etree soon after all the donors get a chance to receive their copies (at least that's the plan). And I'm hoping Owl will upload it to Owl & Bear's Wilco Archive for posterity (and torrent-challenged folks like me), but I have not even asked him about it yet.
  19. Mike - thanks for the links ... I can't get it to work for http://forums.viachicago.org because it won't let me log in no matter what I key in. Same with http://viachicago.org So, someone smarter on this stuff than me might try to rescue that thread for Ken,
  20. What about the Way-Back Machine for web sites? But I don't know how that works. Anyone?
  21. Do over! Meetcha at Hotel S'n'S Saturday night!
  22. He did three. 1 for the Wilco Ensemble group 1 for Hotel S'n'S, and 1 at the Coleman's - http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=27172
  23. here's my ratio: 8-for-8 I attended 8 Ryan Adams & The Cardinals shows 2007. All 8 were absolutely stunningly kick-ass beautiful shows. Is my ratio a freak of nature? Or is the negative attitude about him more a product of reading only bad press. CNN mentioned the Mpls short show, but failed to mention the 30, I don't know how many, maybe 40 other shows RA did which were great? This is what bugs me ... the mentality behind him only being as good as his last bad show. Although I will say Mpls has had bad luck with RA. PS -- hardwood floor - you name-dropped Catherin
