  1. They are freakin' awful. It got to the point with Make Believe where it wasn't just bad, it was an atrocious excuse for music. Up until a couple years ago I still had some sort of attachment to the Blue Album and Pinkerton because I grew up with those, but one listen through Make Believe when that came out made me lose that attachment. I think it was the Pitchfork review that pondered whether Weezer was ever actually good or is their new stuff so bad it just drags the rest of the Weezer catalog down with it. I still try every time they put out a "single" to see if something is left in the
  2. So I had not listened to Tortoise prior to this show and I must say, perhaps the most boring opening act I've seen in my entire life. It felt like I heard one long 45 minute song that never varied. I was glad when they got off the stage, as mean as that sounds. After a long day of work and then driving to the show they nearly knocked me out before The Price Is Right theme music could even begin. Well, now that I'm thinking about it again, "Low" was relatively close when I saw them open for Wilco but I think Tortoise still has 'em beat by a long ways.
  3. Since seeing their debut show at Metro this has become the biggest upcoming release for me. Cannot wait.
  4. I'm struggling greatly with this record. I keep getting 5 or 6 tracks played and then give up. I think it's just all the noise without so much of melody underneath it all that's making it a very difficult listen. It's just coming off as a great attempt that fell flat in my book.
  5. As far as I'm aware, it hasn't come out in the US yet. The release date on Amazon is 9/29. It may be out in other countries, but mine's not shipping until it comes out in the US. I'm totally looking forward to it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LBGB72/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
  6. Any love for Blitzen Trapper as the opener?
  7. Maybe about 10 years too late... Thoughts? http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/08/29/oasis.split/index.html LONDON, England (CNN) -- Oasis front man Noel Gallagher has quit the rock group after a fallout with his bandmate brother, he announced late Friday. "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight," Noel Gallagher said in a brief statement on the band's Web site. "People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer." Noel Gallagher is the band's lead guitarist and songwriter, and Liam Gallagher is
  8. Lately, it's been "Bull Black Nova." Man, when those guitars kick in...awesome. Tunes I've also been blasting lately: No One Knows - QOTSA The Ark - Dr. Dog
  9. I absolutely loved it. And after seeing District 9 the previous weekend, I loved it even more. The whole thing felt brilliant and the 2.5 hours just flew by. I hardly noticed time passing. I can't claim to be a Tarantino expert but Pulp Fiction is one of my favs of all time and, although I was not a fan of Kill Bill, I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next and checking out what I haven't already seen.
  10. Happy Birthday to Jeff. His b-day's always easy for me to remember because he shares it with my father. My dad gets Jeff Tweedy to share his b-day with and I get Jon Bon Jovi. Sometimes, you just have to take what life throws at you, right?
  11. Yeah it was a pretty amazing show at the Metro. Even though the sound kinda sucked, just to be in the presence of those guys playing together made up for it. I'm excited for an album simply to understand more than 3% of what Josh sang!
  12. So it turns out I ordered tickets for Monday night's Wilco show (10/19) versus the Sunday night (10/18). I evidently got my pre-orders confused. If anyone wants to trade 4 Sundays for 4 Mondays it would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: They're all GA and I'd be looking for GA if possible. If not, I'll gladly trade for reserved.
  13. I skip the same 4 tunes every time I listen to this thing and they're pretty much all mentioned in this thread. I'm fine with not having to hear Solitaire, Country Disappeared, I'll Fight, or Everlasting at a show. That said, I'm still fine with only hearing Leave Me Like You Found Me at the residency...
  14. I just got the album and upon first listen...wow, how bad is this record? I'm hoping it grows but it's got a LOOOOOONG way to go. Jay used to write some pretty cool riffs over the top of some very standard progressions. This album is those same chord progression sans any discernible riffs/melodies. Just dull, dull, dull for every song. And is it just me or is he using the same vocal melody in virtually every damn song on this thing?
  15. I'm betting he's calling Jay Farrar after he stole his girlfriend...then subsequently killed her. Maybe I need to listen again though...
  16. Not to take all the fun out of it, but this site's totally reliable and they have Wilco's appearance listed as "Wilco w/Feist" so I'm putting my entire life savings down on them playing "Spiders" until I hear otherwise...
  17. Summerteeth YHF Being There AGIB SBS (KT for those who want it in there) AM . . . . . . Wilco (The Album). The first Wilco album to feature not one, not even two, but THREE tracks I skip every time!
  18. He did make some great music. Unfortunately, due to what he did later in his life it's easy to forget that. However, his death doesn't really sadden me, although it is surprising. Without getting preachy or inappropriate, if you molest children like he did, I don't think you should have the chance to live as long as he did. It's a "gift that keeps on giving" so to speak in that those who are molested are nearly 100% more likely to molest their children or someone else's. It'd be interesting to see how the kids he touched turn out in the long run...
  19. Aaaaaaaaand you lost me. I definitely listened to them when I was like 13, but I soon realized music could involve more than a talented drummer and 3 power chords.
  20. Haven't listened since approximately 5 days after it leaked. Yes, it's that disappointing of an album to me.
  21. There were some things that grabbed me on first listen, many things that didn't, but I'm convinced at this point it's just an average album which puts it right in line with every single album I've heard this year. Nothing has come close to making me feel how Blitzen Trapper and Deerhoof's albums made me feel last year and, sadly, the most consistent album I've heard so far is still Fastball's (which is just a pretty solid pop/rock album). The songs that have hooked me on this Eels album seem to be the more upbeat ones, but the Pitchfork review was spot-on when it mentioned this sounding like
  22. Really? Wow, you and I have a completely different view on this song. You Are My Face STILL stands head and shoulders above every song on THIS album (as do Impossible Germany and Side With The Seeds). I'll Fight is horribly repetitive and musically on the more bland side for a Wilco song as well. There's nothing even resembling a riff and, as previously mentioned, seems to hijack/reuse some previous Wilco melodies over again in a much more subdued way. On & On is head and shoulders above I'll Fight and I'm not even sure I love On & On. I still see this song as completing the "wor
  23. I gotta admit: I care nothing about this NHL final. Nothing at all. I watched my last game of the year tonight and I only watched the last 5 minutes of it anyways. This Stanley Cup Final match-up makes me snooze.
  24. I won't lie: I just don't get it. Some songs are decent on this album, but I'm glad I just downloaded it because I think I'd want my money back had I bought it. I tried them back when Yellow House came out as well and that album flat out put me to sleep. It felt like one long song that never made any progression. This album is better in that regard, but I don't understand all the praise. (Then again, I feel nearly the same about Radiohead as well and people seem to totally adore them).
