I do feel truly sorry for you.

Until the economy improves enough where there are enough jobs. Well if this is how many jobs there will be then we are truly screwed. I am not saying it does. But simply dropping unemployment insurance and offering no other means of support is not the way to do it. Without the extension these people will become more of a burden on our society by going on welfare, or worse. Why is it that the scapegoats in this are the unemployed, who are seen as moochers in our society? Why is it not the corporations whose profits are at an all time high, and whose effective tax rate is lo

Ah Jules, the master of the deflection and evasion. It is a matter of semantics, cut off/stopped extending, whatever. The fact remains that there are not enough jobs. So why stop the extension? Is it the Rand Paul notion that it does a disservice to the unemployed and keeps them looking for a job. Which BTW the study he cited actually says the opposite. http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-mh-rand-paul-20140107,0,6889404.story#axzz2q1EqmmXi Plus as I have said before and shown with the latest job numbers THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH JOBS! So (and because you have trouble known a

While we are not hemorrhaging jobs like we did 5 - 6 years ago, we are supposed to be in a recovery. So the 74K new jobs is pretty bad. But lets take this to the next logical step. The US is not producing the number of jobs that it should be, so there are not enough jobs out there for people. Thus making it hard for people to find work. So you know what Congress does? They cut off the unemployment insurance for 1.3 million Americans. If the unemployment rate was 3% and US is creating a 300K new jobs a month, I would be all for cutting unemployment benefits. But as these numbers s

I feel sorry for you. Hell, I am life long Cubs fan and every year I think they can win the World Series. Is it rational, hell no. But really nothing about baseball is rational. Baseball is about hope.

I think it may be a matter of semantics, or not trying to understand what they other person means and projecting what you think they mean. The GWB closing was purely a result of someone in Christie's administration doing something wrong. Now if Christie was culpable remains to be seen. There is no doubt in my mind there is a machine within the Democratic party that is doing everything in their power to take down Christie at every chance they get. As well as a machine in the GOP that is doing the same to Hillary. This Democratic machine is doing their darndest to keep this going, and proba

Oh I am not saying she is not benefiting. I am sure she is pleased as punch that this happening. But I don't think her people brought it to light. It is a legitimate news story. The left media loves it, the far right media loves it. They are keeping the story going. The quick statement he gave last night should have been the end of it. "I am sorry it happened, I will find the people responsible, they will be fired." That is it. A two hour presser really was not the way to go. But it is a sexy story. But really in the grand scheme of things it is much ado about nothing.

That is kinda a weird thing to say. I doubt Hillary's people have infiltrated the inner circle of Christie's administration and purposely closing a bridge to ruin Christie's political career. This ain't house of cards. It is a legitimate news story. The media is pressured to find a scapegoat and it is sexier with Christie. I believe it is politically motivated to an extent because the left wing media is salivating over this and wants to bring Christie down. In the way the Right wants to bring down Hillary over Benghazi. Christie in generally is a funny sort of candidate. He is the s

As the joy of Christmas fades and the cold darkness of another 2 months of winter are ahead, my joy grows when I hear the words pitchers and catchers report. 34 days is a long time. But right now every fan believes their team can win the world series and it is a joyous time to be a baseball fan.

I don't think it is delayed but it is scheduled for a later date. I couldn't find an exact date, but it will be sometime this year.

I agree I actually saw a news story about how the illegal weed trade isn't going away in CO. It is generally cheaper and of higher grade. Apparently the legal weed shops are putting out shitty product to keep up with demand. Regardless it is a step in in the right direction. Though it still is an experiment. It is too early to call it a success. It will be interesting to see the effect 2, 5 or 10 years down the line.

Since the Politics 2014 thread was unceremoniously closed, I guess it is time to revive this one, in all its nastiness. So anyone care to discuss "Bridge-gate?" It is interested because of the nature of who it involves, the current GOP front runner. Personally I see this in a context of of the Benghazi thing. A politically motivated story trying to discredit a presidential front runner. Sure there are people in Christie's administration that are probably at fault and should be dealt with accordingly and probably will be dealt with. But here is the thing regardless of the motivat

yeah in making this the most boring thread ever. Listen, I know the political threads got a bit contentious, long winded and infuriating at times, but hey at least they were fun to read. Now this thread has become boring. Even the RTT threads are more interesting. Yawn. There are some interesting things going on in the nature of politics right now. Anyone care about the lack of action on the Unemployment insurance? How about Chris Christie's "bridge scandal" What about Gate's new book? Or the new Marijuana laws that have taken effect in Colorado. Just a bunch of topic

Well, apparently the name Jeff Tweedy guarantees that you will become marginally famous.
-
Surprisingly there are only three people in the United States with the name of Jeff Tweedy. So one is a famous rock star, the other is a fashion designer. So number three Jeff Tweedy you better pick up the slack here.

Are you yoda?

well, that was something. I am not sure how I feel about it, honestly. I think the one thing that bothered me was for the first time ever I watched Doctor Who on BBC America, which had commercials. And the commercials came at the worst time and broke up the flow of show, it was very distracting. I am going to watch it again sans commercials and see if I find it more enjoyable.

I don't necessarily agree with him, but Rand Paul's Festivus tweets were pretty fun to read. http://dailycaller.com/2013/12/23/rand-paul-celebrates-festivus-by-airing-grievances-on-twitter/

I wonder if the costs would have been lower if Texas embraced ACA rather than thwart it at ever possible opportunity. All evidence points to states who have supported ACA are seeing lower costs. Health Insurance in this country will never be free, people are going to have to pay for it. Also even with its rocky start it appears that ACA is here to stay. Maybe congress will actually try to make it better. I boy can dream can't he?

Here is the story for those that are interested and not too familiar with Skate Slate. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/history/2013/12/linda_taylor_welfare_queen_ronald_reagan_made_her_a_notorious_american_villain.html It amazes me that this woman, who illegally gamed the system, became synonymous with all of the problems of welfare and perpetuated the myth that all Welfare recipients are takers and mooches on the hard earning tax payer.

Don one hand you say this: On the other hand you say this: So are you saying that half the people in LA are knuckle draggers?

While Jindal's comments are on the free speech side, his comments on free speech are misguided and completely wrong. TV networks have never believed in the first amendment. They believe in the bottom line. If you hurt the bottom line you will be let go. It is their right to do so. What everyone is glossing over here is what is not in Jindal's statement and others who support Robertson. No where does he denounce what Robertson said. And he said some pretty bigoted and hateful things. To me that is troubling. When I brought this up, it was not in the context of look at the racist TV s
-
If we used that criteria half the shit that is said here isn't considered political. But more to the point, the story involves the first amendment, which by its very nature political. Also no one is requiring you to read or comment on this, and you are welcome to change the subject to something more political. But so far the conversation has been kinda intriguing and I am interested to see where it goes.
-
Holy crap, I completely forgot about this. Does this woman actually understand the words that come out of her mouth? If I had mentioned the common man support of Roberts, I would be inclined to agree with you, but Sarah Palin and Jindal were/are governors. They should have a bit more knowledge on the workings of government then the average rube out there. Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal are two major players on the Right. Their comments are really more offensive than that of Roberts.
