  1. SBS is an evolution of the band and I think (hope) it will manifest more clearly on the next studio album as the influence of Nels' musicianship and creativity. My hope is that Nels the polite guitar whiz will take a bigger role in arranging the songs. Not to highlight that he's great (we know...) but because he is so musically cogniscent. But, I don't really see SBS as a comeback to their roots. I've been listening to A.M. a lot lately and I just don't hear that. Oh and I've listened to SBS at least 50 times, probably closer to 100; I think it's a brilliant, near perfect record. Thou
  2. That's a likely explanation, but there are others. (this topic fascinated me as well) For one thing, Dylan was doing a lot of mind expanding drugs at the time. It's possible that he fixated on some things and retained the memories of them. Also, there was a point when Dylan became self-aware, or, aware of the 'greatness' of what he was doing. It wouldn't surprise me if he at some point started jotting notes of things down for a future book. Another possibility is that he used some situations in penning songs that never saw the light of day, but which he kept in a trunk somewhere. As eve

    All Wilco All The Time.
  4. Hehe, he said Fred Savage. I loves me some Wonder Years. (sorry if you read this Fred....hard to resist)

One of my favorite Wilco songs ever. No, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.. period. It's also on the 4/21/99 NYC DVD show. http://www.owlandbear.com/2007/08/14/hoste...il-21-1999-dvd/
  6. That's a good point. And Tweedy is similar-- he's both a great songwriter and a cool rock star. After being cool for a long time, it gets old.. maybe he'd like to be more recognized for his songcraft now. JM2C
  7. No doubt. But doesn't mean they're plotting like a bunch of schoolmates how they're gonna "blow everybody away".
  8. You have to give the guy credit, he doesn't put on any airs for the cameras. He sang it like he did in the studio. I agree it wasn't the best song choice, but so what? Do you really think the band care at this stage about attracting legions of new fans? They do this shit because it's in their contract.
  9. Shanghai'ed eh! ONE Wilco fan in a city of 50 million and you go and alienate them with Ugly American Tourist Behavior.
  10. Pretty good performance, Nels was note perfect... John's grown a beard.
  11. Cool, I didn't realize that. Right....they're coming on after the next commercials!
  12. Suddenly Volkswagen doesn't seem so evil.
  13. The story I read was that the song was being performed in concert before it was recorded for SBS, and it got written on the setlist as "Walken", which is pretty hilarious. Jeff said the alternate spelling was too hard to shake off after that.
  14. Gotta Serve Somebody, from Dylan And The Dead. This song was a staple of his live shows during many of those years. And the record is a document of the collaborations with Garcia and co. And maybe something off the '86 tour with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. There's a VHS/DVD of that tour out there somewhere, it's the kind of thing you can find in your local library.
  15. saddest song ever......'Birds' by Neil Young.
  16. This is probably the saddest part, to me. Watching Spike Lee's doc brought it home; those levees 'protect' poor black communities (mostly), and nobody gives a shit. NO is a great city that we should never forget about.
  17. Thanks Aman, wish I'd known about the place. I'll plan to stop next time I blast through Toledo.
  18. ^ That's a nice example of one ridiculous statement followed by another, or three.
  19. Some tubes are interchangeable, it's always a good idea to check the specs (plate current, etc). Tube Data Sheets Different brands will usually sound a little different. Unless they were made on the same production line.
  20. Why would KR worry about a review "cheapening the experience" unless he knows the fans are being ripped off? That's a lot of Kronor.
  21. I saw there's a nice heartwarming blog entry about Jeff's bd this week on Danny Miller's blog. http://dannymiller.typepad.com/ ....including some cute pics of a much younger JT.
  22. Funny. But jcdawg couldn't have been THAT drunk, if he got the setlist mostly right. So, if hardly anyone in San Diego recognized TFA, well, it makes you wonder...
