Article: Making a case for Jay Farrar
hardwood floor replied to dmait's topic in Someone Else's Song
it's funny -- jay gets so little press that an awful story with no insight or charm gets 50 responses. speaking of jay farrar ... i'm about to see him in two hours and i'm awfully happy about that -
I've listened to that impossible germany solo - supposedly nels' crowning moment in wilco - a lot and it just does nothing for me just doesn't go anywhere i'm not a huge nels fan. talented guy, just never thought it was a good fit.

there's a smallish parking lot across the street, next to Wendy's (if it's still a Wendy's). If you get there that early, you'll be fine across the street.
-
yeah, it sounds good enough to get an idea of how special the show was but probably not a recording you'll go back to a ton and there are now 97 seeders so you're gonna have it pretty quick
-
but definitely worth downloading
-
huh? huh?

sorry, i'm slightly off topic here, but willy ... you oughta reconsider bit torrent downloading. i've filled two 500 gb hard drives with live shows and the risk is zero. as long as you use accepted trackers approved by the trading community - dimeadozen, thetradersden, bt.etree, etc., there are no worries about viruses. and although other people are technically pulling stuff off your computer, they're doing it through a tracker, so the safety level there is 100 percent. this is safe, legal and fun. and easy to set up. and addictive. i highly recommend it.
-
why the hostility? there's an accepted way of doing things in the trading community, and there are good reasons for it like i wrote up above, this has to do with posting and trading. i don't think anybody cares what audio format anybody uses on their own, without trading i have about 50 wilco or tweedy shows that i'd be glad to trade - even to you, groo. you're just not getting them in MP3 format
-
posting or trading any lossless show in lossy format is forbidden by all collectors / traders / tapers it's considering polluting the audio pool once a lossy show begins circulating, the pool can never be pure again it takes half a minute to convert flacs to *.wav files so there's really no reason to convert to MP3 and trade or post the files are larger, but so what - now you have two sendspace files to post instead of one so whether or not you can tell the difference in sound, please respect the wishes of the tapers and traders and everybody in the trading community

good for jay bennett, who wrote the music. hope he gets a nice payday out of it

Not a complaint (see other threads for that) but a request

i saw graham parker at a house concert once ... he was playing in a living room in front of 50 people when the set was over, he got up, thanked us, walked off to huge applause, and then looked to his left and saw a foyer and looked to his right and saw a kitchen and said, "I don't know where to go until the encore!" broke everybody up -
