can't say I picked out many lyrics in his short set (usually have to hear something a few times before i can pick at lyrics) Fanfarlo & Working For A Nuclear Free City were both fantastic at the Fader Fort. the Lou Reed tribute there w/ MMJ, YLT, Thurston Moore, Moby w/ Lou, Dr. Dog, Joseph Arthur, Mark Kozelek, etc. was a blast. Constantines Fri night set killed it as well.

ah i thought the first guy at the Church show was pretty good honestly... great voice at least i think the venue obviously added a lot to my enjoyment, but it was definitely the best thing I saw at SXSW. the MMJ set was top 3 though.

Rev. Wright, fwiw

haha, well to be honest, that was the first time i had seen them since opening for Pearl Jam in '06, and the first headlining show since '04 :/
-
you liked the full MMJ show more than the St. David's show? i guess I can see it, but that wasn't one of the best MMJ shows i've seen, whereas it was definitely one of the best times i've seen Jim solo, add in a short M. Ward set and a bunch of collaborations? yes please

Wilco to perform at Outside Lands Festival in SF This Summer

yes. Pearl Jam played 8 songs before Ed got so sick he had to leave the stage i would have killed to see a Neil Jam show -
He may be hit or miss solo, but he's not terrible. I've seen him put on absolutely stellar shows before too. As for a band... i'll believe a full band Sun Kil Moon show when i see it in person, because it's yet to happen yet (i know it's supposedly going to happen later this fall though). As for April... i didn't think it was possible to come close to Ghosts, but so far this most certainly does. how can you say something isn't memorable after listening maybe what, 2 times so far? *shrug*

"Tonight The Sky" riff = Ohio by Neil Young killer song this album fucking slays. even coming close to being better than Ghosts of the Great Highway seemed next to impossible to me, but so far this thing is off to a great start. edit: fuck... "Like The River" with Oldham on backing vocals... wow

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward = She & Him

yeah, i found it kind of endearing though too bummer that it doesn't sound like they'll be doing any full scale touring any time soon though. -

it was more than their second gig together (they announced at the Friday radio gig for the Current they'd played half a dozen shows up until that point). they played Noise Pop in San Fran a week or two before SXSW and a couple LA gigs prior. was the Harp picnic you refer to the thing at the French Legation Museum? -
Full album stream: http://myspace.com/sunkilmoon download isn't working just yet (says out of stock ) sounds absolutely stunning so far

shit. this Sunday is the 23rd isn't it? wtf... SXSW fucked up my sense of what day it is

The Raconteurs are happy to announce that in one week's time their second album, entitled Consolers Of The Lonely, will be available EVERYWHERE Tuesday, March 25th. "Album" meaning: full length vinyl, CD and digital formats; and "everywhere" meaning: local mom and pop Indie retailers, corporate superstores, supermarkets, iTunes, Amazon, the band's own website and any other location that could get the record up and going this quickly (some places couldn't move this fast, so they will join in as soon as they can). It contains 14 new recordings and is being released globally on Third Man Reco

nice!!! f'n love that record and those guys. Ben is from Belfast originally . His older brother Robin is a great songwriter too. they played our day party on Sat at SXSW
-
yeah, i could see agreeing with that eventually... have only listened 3-4x so far. there's no tracks that blow me away, but overall just very solid.
-
Reveal has 2-3 decent singles, but overall, meh. Up i love about 1/3 to 1/2 of it. this one there's only 1-2 songs i don't like. not really an amazing songs, just a solid overall effort.
-
anyone who claimed it was the second coming of Reckoing/Fables is retarded, i haven't even read that myself to me i'd imagined it was more of a back to their mid 90's sound from the single, and that kinda held true for the most part. i'd say it's a solid 7.5 record, considering it's been 12 years since they put out anything better than maybe a 6

Here are the 2 previously unheard songs Librarian and Look At You from the Jim solo show last night: Look At You: http://www.mediafire.com/?ry0nc9b6mtm Librarian: http://www.mediafire.com/?qnhqm0zxxx6 i did some EQ'ing to brighten it up a bit (it was a bit muffled with the recorder being set on the floor (didn't want to get kicked out of such an incredible show)
-
i just saw Jacob Golden last night play before M. Ward & Jim James, he was actually pretty great
-
that song is so so powerful... almost teared up a bit during it :/ and yeah, the show was announced in advance. it was an official SXSW showcase, but was listed as just M. Ward then Jim James.
-
i'd have to disagree with you there... and judging from audience reactions at the Austin show, it seems that "I'm Amazed" is the one new song that immediately caught peoples ear as well. people were pretty unsure what to think of "Highly Suspicious" overall, which i'd have to agree to a point. it's a fun song, but the deep backing vocals just seem a bit goofy to me. usually like MMJ at their more serious i guess. it's definitely a fun live song though! I went to M. Ward & Jim James at St. David's Episcopal Church last night (capacity: 240 seated ) and taped it: M. Ward Sad Sad Song

might check out their First Ave show this time around, even though the last album was just awful
