how great is this? hopefully you were able to find a version that didn't include a messed up track 11, cuz that's one of the better songs. Justin's Bone Thugs rap on it kills me
-
yeah, that one is great. they're coming here soon too
-
another new song 'The Weekenders': http://buzzworthy.mtv.com/2010/04/02/exclusive-listen-the-hold-steadys-the-weekenders/ it's better than 'Hurricane J' and 'Rock Problems' by quite a wide margine... love the heavy low end on it and Tad's solo is really nice it
-
new song/video 'Compliments' is REAL good imo: http://bandofhorses.com/ Ben's voice sounds different, but i like it
-
-
i actually like Hurricane J more... but i'd agree neither are amazing. then again, when's the last time THS had a first single that was the best song on the album?
-
i didn't love Middle Cyclone as much as her previous 3 albums myself. still incredibly good tho (she's the best female singer/songwriter post '00 by a country mile for me)
-
another new song 'Rock Problems' http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/03/hold_steady.html the guitar tone is a bit limp but that's just personal prefernce. neither song so far blows me away, but i dig 'em both a good amount. Craig's voice sounds better than ever, apparently his singing lessons are starting to pay off!
-
plus it's a triple album

Loving these 3 free tracks from the boy/girl duo 'Cults' (especially 'Go Outside'): http://cults.bandcamp.com/

saw it a few weeks ago and didn't like it even REMOTELY as much as The Hangover sadly. some very funny parts here and there, but a lot of annoying and super super dumb parts too (Rob Corddry's character got on my nerves, but Craig Robinson makes the film). i'm glad the screening was free

i was pretty smitten by 'We All Belong' quite a bit from the get go, Fate and Easy Beat both took me a while to fully love, so i'm sure it's just a matter of when and not if i fall in love with it.
-
not blown away by it yet, but definitely loving most of it so far

maybe i need to revisit Parc Ave again to see if maybe my memory is fading me, but it seemed quite different style & tone-wise to me (then again so did the live songs last summer too tho). not saying it's a bad thing, just hasn't hit me yet through 3 listens. maybe i'll throw it on this afternoon. i do love the video for The Mama Papa tho: http://branch.vimeo.com/9403961

ah, definitely go in expecting a somewhat dramatic difference from Parc Avenue at least. re: BNL vs. Besnard Lakes, it's funny that i never made that comparison w/ their names before but i've now heard it from a few diff people and now i think it myself, haha. doesn't help that they're both from Canada either.
-
the new P&A? for some reason that one hasn't quite clicked for me like Parc Avenue did, but i absolutely adore that band (especially live), so i'm gonna give it more listens this weekend. i didn't NOT like it, but from the new songs they played @ Pitchfork Fest last summer i was expecting to be blown away i guess.
-
nah, it wasn't just comments on Beach House... recall some about the new Besnard Lakes and a couple others. like i said, if i'm far off, then that's just me reading into things wrong, so no offense meant at all.

^^ what Matt said. i guess the album has been online since November so by this point i figured any/all hype had died down about TD and people either love it or it's not their thing. i just kinda think that most of the folks on Via aren't the type to typically just buy into straight up/typical Pitchfork hype and if they really like something enough to post about it a bunch on here, then it's worth checking out, so there's no need to be all that skeptical on here is all i was trying to get at.
-
high points for me 'Silver Soul', 'Walk In The Park', 'Take Care', & 'Norway', but i guess for me the entire album is so strong that my favorites change every time i listen. Beach House definitely are not for everyone, and i'll admit that while i liked the Self-Titled and Devotion a good amount, they really knocked it out of the park for me. that's it for me. and i guess sometimes if something is so gorgeous i actually enjoy when it's drone-y like Teen Dream. takes me away and my mind just drifts. kinda like why i love Sun Kil Moon so much too. both are absolutely the perfect late nig

fair enough. some people don't like dream pop, i understand. but i'd still argue the album does require more patience to fully reveal it self, even to myself as fan of Beach House since their first album. do you like stuff like Mazzy Star or old Portishead? you can't tell me those bands/albums don't require a bit of patience? saying something requires more patience is not an insult to the listener or the band, it's just being honest... it just seems in my observations and from his comments that jff is scared of liking ANYTHING that has even the tiniest ounce of buzz is all... maybe i'm w

it's absolutely gorgeous/stunning and Beach House's best album by far... some albums just take a bit more patience.

if you cough up your email for their mailing list on their site you can get a 320kbps version: http://www.highviolet.com/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sQGbICAZfs Sondre Lerche & Jon Auer rehearsing 'The Ballad of El Goodo' in their hotel room before the SXSW tribute last Saturday. this is absolutely fantastic

listen to the first single 'Bloodbuzz Ohio' now! i'll admit I wasn't LOVING it from the BBC6 radio rip this morning, but hearing it in it's fully glory??
