while i have grown a bit tired of Sufjan lately (dunno if i'll even bother buying The Avalanche), dude is still majorly talented... that and i still listen to Seven Swans quite often, even if just like 6-7 tracks. the backlash against Sufjan happened a lot quicker than i expected people will say the same thing about The Arcade Fire after their new album as well
-
new Golden Smog, too lazy to post the cover
-
that's too bad, it's a stunning mix of Elliott meets Nick Drake sorta i genuinely disagree w/ Erlewine quite often tho, so no big surprise. you've read his digs on Bright Eyes i'm sure Dan?
-
i def disagree w/ him on Seven Swans still Sufjan's best all around album for me, it's absolutely gorgeous
-
doesn't remind me of Thief much at all myself...
-
the At Dawn demos re-issue and TN Fire demos disc(s) will be out in February 2007 now, they pushed them back due to the live record/DVD
-
yeah they are. been around since late '02 or so. they've improved tremendously the last year and a half or so though, especially live. it's not too surprising that they're the band to break out though, they def have a good deal of indie appeal. it's just everyone is kinda shocked at how big they've blew up... they're on Letterman on the 25th of this month...
-
as much interest as Tapes have been getting, i really hope some of the other great Minneapolis/Twin Cities bands get the exposure they deserve.
-
it def blows their last 2 records away at least... easily their best since those first 2 IMO
-
drummer = Michael Bland (ex-Prince & the New Power Generation drummer) the venues they're playing are fairly small, probably seeing a festival/radio show listing.
-
i'm thinking he meant with the Word Art style graphics, not necessarily just the font but A-man is still a dick
-
from all accounts over the last decade or so, it sounds like he had finally found peace though, and was living a fairly normal/regular (albeit reclusive) life.

it's pretty good but VERY VERY lush, almost too much imo
-
you left out that Mangum also guests on one of their records and has played w/ them live
-
i'm with you... i can understand what some people find enjoyable about it, but other than a few tracks (namely Postcard From Italy, which rules) i just am not that into it. the stuff that sounds like a Bar Mitzvah, etc... as far as that sorta sound goes, i think DeVotchka make it a bit more accessible and enjoyable, even if i'm not super into them either. the NMH comparisons are a bit silly IMO. not saying that there's not some influence, but quality-wise, while the kid is talented for 19, not even close.
-
yeah, bout half way through it i like
-
weee, good shit eh?
-
yeah, it's pretty good i like Pizza Nea a lot, there's one on Hennepin over by Surdky's and another one on Franklin, fairly authentic Italian-style
-
nothing wrong with Chicago Deep Dish imo, but it's not something i can eat very often myself... if i want pizza i want a nice hand tossed or even thin Napoli-style crust, not lasagna on top of bread
-
kinda reminds me of RJD2's first record some (pretty vague/obvious i know)
