I like those adjectives and phrases in relation to Weller. I will have to pick that one up, too.

So now Dude and Oblivious, I need to know who you all are, because it sounds like you were in HS around the same time that I was... and I was in the area where I had a choice of HP or Deerfield and I had a lot of friends at Deerfield. We can take this offline...

http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/2267536,sarah-palin-gop-fund-raiser-051210.article I mean, I'll be the first one to rip on my old high school, but this is silly. And, actually... I might be one to defend Palin's position, but to make this a political hotbutton... Anyway, I don't mean to start a whole political debate here, although one will most-likely ensue anyway. I just wanted to say that this is where I went to high school and it's weird.

The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle Falstaff - Falstaff Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea Harry Nilsson - Pandemonium Shadow Show/Aerial Ballet/Aerial Pandemonium Ballet (there are no images of the Falstaff record that I'm listening to, but it looks pretty similar to their second album, pictured there. Makes no difference, really, but I like to state that for the record, as it is...) :-|

I can understand it for purely anthropological reasons, but if we're all going through the same thing but in different cultures do we really need a film to present it to us as if we don't know? Oh, we "know", but knowing isn't the thing... it's to help bring a greater understanding. And, to that end, I do think that this movie does a great job. It's one thing to read about cultural child-rearing practices in an anthropology book, but to witness the bonds being formed and development of these children... it provides a greater understanding of who we are as people. Understanding, not just kn

I think that, if you had actually taken the time to watch the movie (and not boycott it based upon principal alone), you would have a wholly different opinion of it. The parents, if they were looking to be stars, will be SORELY disappointed, as all 8 parents have barely 5 minutes of screen time, combined. This is not a voyeuristic exercise in the least, but a highly enlightening and thought-provoking look at who we are and where we come from. A look at how we are all, at heart, the same, yet are shaped by our very different environments. It's much, much more than staring at cute babies for 1

So, talking about Lloyd Cole also got me thinking about Jules Shear. For some reason the two of them are linked in my head; probably because I also used to play this album around the same time that I played Don't Get Weird On Me, Babe: Any thoughts on Mr. Shear? I know that he wrote a few hits for other folks (including "If She Knew What She Wants" for the Bangles). And I remember him hosting the original few episodes of MTV Unplugged. Help? Fans? Because now I'm thinking about picking up that album pictured up there, but don't want to find that it's another dated-sounding AOR DadRock al

I knew that there was a reason that i liked you.

Thing is, I liked "...Babe" when I was in college. Just didn't sound as good as it did then. Hoping that it will come back to me.

Excellent toilet reading. Yeah, it's a bit lurid and voyeuristic, but that doesn't mean that it's not a good read. I like her writing style, too: very self-effacing and wry; perfect for somebody with her background. I am enjoying this more than I probably should.

I think that the TV thing is the biggest thing in Chicago. If you can't watch the team, how easy is it to be a fan? Not as easy as it is if you can actually SEE them play. I don't blame folks for being new fans since Rocky took over from his dad. The fact is... the team is simply a lot more fan-friendly now: winning or not. (I'm just glad that they are!) You didn't see this many "bandwagon" fans back in the early 90's when Chelios, Roenick, Belfour, et. al. made it to the Cup Finals! Did you? So, it's not just winning. It's new Hawk fans... who are new HOCKEY fans, too (most likely).

I saw this yesterday with the family. I didn't even know that it existed until my wife requested that we see it for Mother's Day. Gotta say: it was a pretty great movie. Of course, the babies, themselves are hilarious and adorable. But, after the movie was over, out with the family, I saw a couple walking their baby in the stroller and could not help but to think about that baby and it's place in the world... how their growing up/going to grow up and all that. And, isn't that what a documentary is supposed to do? On top of it all, for a movie with NO dialogue, it held the attention of even

I picked up these two albums over the weekend, in part because I remember liking the one when I spun it on my college station so many years ago (Don't Get...) and in part because Billy G is so very into him, and I respect his opinion. I am just not feeling it, though. Should I be listening to something else? (Rattlesnakes is his best, right?) Or, if I don't like these, should I just not even bother? It seems like the kind of thing that I should be into, but the production is just killing it for me; so DAD rock. Maybe they're growers?
