I played Public Enemy for my 8-year-old last night... "Don't Believe the Hype" He understood much more than an 8-year-old should. About the anger and all that.

The single-most beautiful vocal in the history of pop/rock music is Art Garfunkel's lead turn on "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". -
It IS my favorite Coen Bros. film. Paul Newman as an evil mofo is absoloutely wonderful -- you can tell that he relishes finally being able to play the bad guy.

I got a recording of him doing an acoustic version of "Whole Lotta Love". Yeah, the Led Zep tune. Dude rules.

Rush is "The Band With No Soul". I believe that each and every member of that band sold their soul to be able to play as well as they do. And that would explain why the music is so soulless. -

Maybe. He owned a bar down there and also a bi-weekly local music rag, in addition to being in a couple of bands, himself.

I work with a guy who seems to have been a pretty big part of it, and I'm curious to know more about it and see if anyone else here knows much about it. Strange way to start a topic, I know, but...

The lyrics to "Liar's Club" totally and completely evoke (for me) the time, immediately following college graduation, when my friends and I would hit the bars, looking for fun, women, and just good times. We thought it was everything that life was supposed to be and was going to be. And then, reality hit as hard as this song. If that was the only song on the album, it would be enough. But the damn thing keeps going on just as strong. For 45 minutes or so. So, so great. Have they done anything else recently?

Merle Haggard - "Mama Tried" The first thing I remember knowing, Was a lonesome whistle blowing, And a young un's dream of growing up to ride; On a freight train leaving town, Not knowing where I'm bound, No-one could change my mind but Mama tried. One and only rebel child, From a family, meek and mild: My Mama seemed to know what lay in store. Despite all my Sunday learning, Towards the bad, I kept on turning. 'Til Mama couldn't hold me anymore. And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole. No-one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried. Mama tried to raise me bett
