  1. I think I knew that at one time but forgot. I guess James comes by his wordsmithing honest. I was actually more excited about finally seeing him live, but Isbell & co. were great also.
  2. Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit with James McMurtry
  3. I couldn't agree more about their live performances. I saw them a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed.
  4. The Resurrection Ball, a benefit concert for the restoration of the historic Eagle Saloon in New Orleans: Resurrection Ball Holiday Fundraiser (Dr. Michael White & the Liberty Jazz Band & the Perdido Street Legacy Band featuring Donald Harrison, Delfeayo Marsalis, Germaine Bazzle, Charlie Gabriel, Big Sam, Sasha Masakowski, James Andrews, Detroit Brooks, Branden Lewis, Joe Dyson, Sullivan Fortner, John Michael Bradford, Jasen Weaver & special guests).
  5. Saw "Darkest Hour" tonight. Gary Oldman is definitely worthy of a best actor nomination for his portrayal of Churchill.
  6. A sad day for me when I got home from work. My old Fables "monkey on a bicycle" t-shirt had worn out (the graphic had literally peeled away from the cloth of the shirt, leaving a gaping hole). I ordered one of the reproductions on R.E.M.'s website, and like most shirts nowadays it's paper thin. I know a lot of folks seem to like those, but I'm not one of them. Just a tiny matter, I know, but I sure love that design.
  7. Finally watched Wonder Woman. It was just OK though I admit to not being a fan of superhero movies. I can think of worse ways to spend two and a half hours than watching Gal Gadot, however.
  8. Sorry to revive this long-dormant thread. I'm stuck at home with a bad cold, so I'm a little bored. Dale Murphy is my boyhood hero. Like a lot of his fans I grew up in the South. We got cable in the very early-1980s, and my dad sat me down one night in 1982, turned the TV to TBS, and told me he wanted to show me something. To that point in my life the only sport I'd been introduced to was football (which I hated because my dad yelled at the TV whenever he watched it). As soon as I saw Dale Murphy at bat, however, I fell in love with the game and discovered my hero. Anyway, I've met Murphy a
  9. A couple of new songs by the Decemberists: a cover of Big Star's "Jesus Christ" and a song the lyrics for which were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aM4Pz6Ccrro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVmVVkbx3jE
  10. Links to a couple of good and recent documentaries (one audio and one video from the band itself): https://soundcloud.com/rte-radio-1/rem-out-of-athens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaiLpMsz2FE&t=182s Because you can never have enough R.E.M.
  11. I've loved "Being There" since the first time I heard it 20 years ago. I hadn't sat down and listened to it from start to finish in a long time till I got the remastered set. I'd forgotten how great it is and why it's my favorite Wilco album. It's aged very well, too!
  12. Awesome. Continued best wishes to a fellow baseball fan, a talented musician and a nice guy.
  13. I haven't heard anything, but I sure would love a new album by the Decemberists. And hopefully a tour of the South beyond Atlanta, Nashville and Houston.
  14. Very happy Sister Rosetta Tharpe was elected.
  15. Just saw "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri." I haven't seen many movies this year, but it's by far my favorite.
  16. Saw "Lady Bird" last night. Excellent movie. I've always enjoyed Greta Gerwig's movies. Her directorial debut is one of my favorites this year.
