  1. Somewhere there's a t-shirt idea based on that cool retro jingle. It's really great that they're getting a year to recharge their batteries and that they (and we) get to reflect on the band's history and music.
  2. Thank you for taking the time to read my incredibly lengthy post and for your feedback, Sir Stewart. Much appreciated.
  3. Absolutely. Still not sure why they weren't nominated for best alternative album, but I'm happy their work was recognized. Hope you have a chance to see them live. You won't be disappointed!
  4. I no longer watch SNL, but I watched the video on Youtube. Wow. It's so nice to see country music beyond what's played on the radio not only surviving but thriving.
  5. I know most people don't share my passion about this kind of thing, but I want to share the remarks given by the step-grandson of bluesman Bo Carter (of the Mississippi Sheiks) at the dedication of his grave marker in Nitta Yuma, Mississippi last summer. I'm also sharing a photo I took of Carter's grandson holding his grandfather's 1932 National Style N single cone resonator guitar. Our work isn't just for blues lovers who want gravesites to visit during pilgrimages. Whenever possible we involve family and community members in the entire process. I hope that offering a face to go with our stor
  6. Saw "Phantom Thread." It can seem slow, especially if you don't like movies in which the main feature is the acting. But the performances by Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps and Lesley Manville are fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed it. No special effects. No explosions. No superheroes. No monsters. Just a well-acted, very good movie with a slow burn. I've now seen every movie nominated for best picture this year. They're all good.
  7. It really is a labor of love for me, so I'm thrilled to do whatever I can to make the campaign's goal a reality. The people in Roosevelt's hometown community asked me if I had any trouble finding the church. I laughed and told them my dad was born and raised just down the road, and I spent quite a bit of time as a kid visiting family nearby. I actually met Mavis at the Grammy Museum the year before (in 2016) my presentation at the conference (2017). In 2016 she performed at the performing arts center at Delta State University, and I went up for the show. She had donated some of her father's
  8. I forgot to include that you can also keep up with our work at the MZMF's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/blackandbluescemeteries/
  9. I expect that the reaction most will have when they see first Blind Roosevelt Graves's name will be the same as mine: Who is Blind Roosevelt Graves? Roosevelt Graves was a musician and recording artist whose career peaked in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Why should you care and what, if any, link does he have with Wilco? Well, I'll tell you. This past summer while volunteering at a blues festival in Bentonia, Mississippi, I met the executive director of a Mississippi nonprofit organization, the Mt. Zion Memorial Fund. The Mt. Zion Memorial Fund's purpose is to fund and erect grave memori
  10. I totally believe that. I was there, and Colin Meloy made a couple of comments about being on the Fais Do Do Stage. If they have a problem with the festival, that’s one thing. But the fans are the ones who are hurt by them not playing in NOLA. They haven’t had a proper show here in 12 years. Totally absurd. Sorry for the thread hijack.
  11. It’s a solid lineup for sure. No Decemberists = likely no me. I’d love to know what they have against New Orleans. They haven’t played a proper show there in 12 years and haven’t played Jazz Fest since 2011.
  12. If the Decemberists play, I'll probably go that day. The closest cities they're playing to me are Nashville and Atlanta, and I've gone to Nashville the last two times to see them. While a festival set's not the same, it's better than nothing. I guess we'll find out Tuesday when the lineup is released.
  13. "The Shape of Water". Really enjoyed it. A likely best picture nominee for sure. “The Post," which every American should see in order to better understand and appreciate the importance of a free press. “Call Me By Your Name.” Pretty emotionally powerful story. To me it kinda seemed a bit long and slow at times, but still a very good movie.
  14. I like it fine. Not as much as “The King Is Dead,” but I still think it’s good.
