  1. Re-watching the Ken Burns Civil War documentary.
  2. "Salvage the Bones" by Jesmyn Ward
  3. One of the hall of famers I'd always wanted to meet and one of my all-time favorite players. What a class act and a great ambassador for baseball. Godspeed, Mr. Cub.
  4. "Birdman." I think I need to see it at least once more to understand what I just saw.
  5. "The Iron Lady" with Meryl Streep.
  6. Saw "American Sniper" last night. It was so intense that I needed a drink to sleep afterward.
  7. I'll add to my original post that I'd like to be more outgoing and meet more new friends...here and in the world.
  8. Here ya go: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2015/01/08/mavis-trailer-sxsw/
  9. Same here. Can't wait. And I dare anyone to watch the trailer without wanting to hug her afterward.
  10. (1) To move to and to make a new life and career for myself in Chicago (I've been working on this for two years); and (2) For this year to be better than the last.
  11. Thanks, kidsmoke, and I wish the same to you and to everyone here. And thanks to everyone for the warm responses. I really needed them.
  12. I admit it was difficult to put that out there, but it was a huge relief after I did. I've always believed that one can never have too many friends, so if I can make a few here that would be nice. Thanks for the kind words and wishes. Here's to a great new year for all of us.
  13. Thanks for the well-wishes, y'all, and Happy New Year!
  14. Pretty low key for me. I'm just glad this year's over, as it's been a particularly brutal one. On the same day in early March, I found my dad unconscious on the floor and my aunt suddenly died (which really messed up my mom). My dad was ultimately diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin's Disease. I lost my job in late-July when my employer discovered (through no fault of my own) that I was planning to move to Chicago once I obtained a professional license in Illinois. Throughout the summer I commuted three hours each day to and from work so that I could help my family with their house, yard, dog,
  15. "Jujitsu for Christ" by Jack Butler
  16. Finished the series tonight & really enjoyed it. I hadn't watched it because, for some reason, I didn't think I'd like it. Glad I took the plunge. I agree that season two was the weakest of the five (What was with the storyline involving Minka Kelly's character finding religion?). Overall though it's a solid series.
  17. In no particular order: 1. Jeff Tweedy, Vic Theatre (night two) 2. St. Vincent 3. Old 97's (always a good live show) 4. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds 5. Afghan Whigs
  18. I see what you did there. Nice. I've really enjoyed "With Light and With Love" by Woods and the self-titled album by Alvvays.
  19. Dang. For a few years they always seemed to stop in New Orleans, but no more.
