  1. Pretty low key for me. I'm just glad this year's over, as it's been a particularly brutal one. On the same day in early March, I found my dad unconscious on the floor and my aunt suddenly died (which really messed up my mom). My dad was ultimately diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin's Disease. I lost my job in late-July when my employer discovered (through no fault of my own) that I was planning to move to Chicago once I obtained a professional license in Illinois. Throughout the summer I commuted three hours each day to and from work so that I could help my family with their house, yard, dog,
  2. "Jujitsu for Christ" by Jack Butler
  3. Finished the series tonight & really enjoyed it. I hadn't watched it because, for some reason, I didn't think I'd like it. Glad I took the plunge. I agree that season two was the weakest of the five (What was with the storyline involving Minka Kelly's character finding religion?). Overall though it's a solid series.
  4. In no particular order: 1. Jeff Tweedy, Vic Theatre (night two) 2. St. Vincent 3. Old 97's (always a good live show) 4. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds 5. Afghan Whigs
  5. I see what you did there. Nice. I've really enjoyed "With Light and With Love" by Woods and the self-titled album by Alvvays.
  6. Dang. For a few years they always seemed to stop in New Orleans, but no more.
  7. Started "Friday Night Lights" this week.
  8. I may need a pair of anyone's selling.
  9. "Ava's Man" is one of my favorite books as well. His depiction of his grandfather reminds me so much of my grandfather. That's actually the book I talked with him about the other day. Here's an interview with him about his new book on Jerry Lee: http://www.oxfordamerican.org/articles/2014/nov/24/interview-rick-bragg/
  10. Just picked up the new Rick Bragg book on Jerry Lee Lewis. I attended a signing and had a chance to sit and talk with Bragg one-on-one for about 10 minutes. Very genuine, unpretentious man & one of my favorite writers.
  11. Yep, that's the one I meant. I tried to like it but couldn't.
  12. I need some friends like yours.
  13. Just watched "The Trip" on Netflix. It got lots of good reviews, but I hated it. It took every bit of willpower I have just to get through it.
  14. I really like it. Lots of songs from different places compiled together with a nice booklet and packaging.
  15. I'm so glad he was "discovered." There aren't many like Leo left among us. He's the real deal. Very happy for his success.
  16. "Nebraska." Enjoyed it. The landscapes throughout the movie were really beautiful.
  17. In no particular order: 1. Leo "Bud" Welch - "Sabougla Voices" 2. St. Vincent - "St. Vincent" 3. Real Estate - "Atlas" 4. The War on Drugs - "Lost in the Dream" 5. Sturgill Simpson - "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music" 6. Afghan Whigs - "Do to the Beast" 7. Woods - "With Light and with Love"
