  1. I think I'm gonna have to make that festival. My two favorite bands (Wilco & The a Decemberists) along with Willie Nelson, Charles Bradley, Iron & Wine, Weezer, Dr. John, et al.
  2. The same exact thing happened to me for the New Orleans show this Saturday. I got fifth row (left of stage, but I think my seats are close to the aisle in the center). Very much looking forward to this show.
  3. I'm a day behind because I went to a late-night show after Jazz Fest wrapped up for the day. I saw Bonsoir Catin/ DJ D. Lefty Parker, The Deslondes and Feufollet at Siberia, an eclectic little club in New Orleans. Keep your eye on The Deslondes, whose first album is scheduled for release next month.
  4. Jerry Lee Lewis - today at Jazz Fest. He only played about 35 minutes but can still sing and play the piano very well. Despite his colorful past, the man is pretty much a music genius.
  5. If I like this one (and I've been told by more than one person that I will), I'll have to pick up the Lusitania book next.
  6. Just picked up The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America by Erik Larson.
  7. The Connells: 1. Over There 2. Fun & Games 3. Motel 4. Slackjawed 5. New Boy
  8. Just finished season one of "Marvel's Daredevil" on Netflix. Solid.
  9. I read somewhere that he claimed responsibility for them playing as long as they did. Apparently the Jazz Fest people wanted to cut it off sooner. I'm wondering if they went with Impossible Germany because it's a bit longer. Just speculating though.
  10. I agree with Sandy. They really seemed into it before the storms came. And I, too, missed the after-hours show in City Park. Here was the apparent original setlist that we would've heard but for the lightning:
  11. I sure wish they'd plan a proper show in NOLA after their set was cut short last weekend. It's been a long time since those back-to-back nights at Tipitina's in 2008.
  12. The music history nerd/Elvis fan in me wanted a copy of the reissue of Elvis's first two recordings. Alas, I was unable to participate in this year's RSD due to a prior engagement. However, afterward I scored one of these, which were issued by The End of All Music in Oxford, MS:
  13. Their set was cut extremely short due to bad weather. I think they got through five or six songs. Bummer. Hopefully they'll return to NOLA soon. But a little Wilco is better than no Wilco. And I met Sandy in SFCA.
  14. Great! I'll PM you. You gonna be there, too?
  15. Wilco's scheduled for the Gentilly Stage from 5:20 to 7:00. Would love to meet some other folks from here.
  16. This is the first true rebuilding year for my Braves in over two decades. I like that they fired Frank Wren, the GM, after last season, and decided to blow the whole thing up. Despite the fact that Jason Heyward was my favorite player on the team, I understood that trade as well as the others. What Wren was doing wasn't working and wasn't going to work. Hopefully by the time the team moves to its new suburban stadium (which I am not a fan of) it will be competitive once again. For Braves fans who found the team any time after 1991, this will be a true test. They don't know what it feels like t
  17. Decemberists: Engine Driver The Legionnaire's Lament Sons and Daughters Song for Myla Goldberg A Beginning Song
  18. It's almost impossible to reduce this list down to five but... R.E.M. 1. I Believe 2. Wendell Gee 3. Untitled (from Green) 4. Near Wild Heaven 5. Kohoutek
  19. I saw the Decemberists with Alvvays at the Ryman Auditorium last night. Great show.
  20. Still my all-time favorite band (sorry, Wilco). Got an original brick from the steeple last year from the campaign to restore it.
  21. So glad he made a blues record. And a good one!
  22. Forgot to post it but from last Saturday...Hiss Golden Messenger and the Wood Brothers.
  23. I'd just returned home from a college semester in London and was moving back into my dorm room for summer school. I'd just hooked up the cable on my TV, tuned into MTV and saw the "Box Full of Letters" video. Been a fan ever since.
  24. Does anyone know where I can find a show poster from Jeff Tweedy's shows at the Vic Theatre from last February 14-15? I went to the Feb. 15 show and bought a signed poster. I was visiting a friend in Chicago, so I mailed it to myself. Unfortunately it was damaged in the mail, so I'm hoping to find another one. Probably a long shot but if anyone has a lead on one please message me. Thanks!
