Dang. For a few years they always seemed to stop in New Orleans, but no more. -

"Ava's Man" is one of my favorite books as well. His depiction of his grandfather reminds me so much of my grandfather. That's actually the book I talked with him about the other day. Here's an interview with him about his new book on Jerry Lee: http://www.oxfordamerican.org/articles/2014/nov/24/interview-rick-bragg/

Just picked up the new Rick Bragg book on Jerry Lee Lewis. I attended a signing and had a chance to sit and talk with Bragg one-on-one for about 10 minutes. Very genuine, unpretentious man & one of my favorite writers.

Yep, that's the one I meant. I tried to like it but couldn't.

I need some friends like yours.

Just watched "The Trip" on Netflix. It got lots of good reviews, but I hated it. It took every bit of willpower I have just to get through it.

I really like it. Lots of songs from different places compiled together with a nice booklet and packaging.

I'm so glad he was "discovered." There aren't many like Leo left among us. He's the real deal. Very happy for his success.

"Nebraska." Enjoyed it. The landscapes throughout the movie were really beautiful.

In no particular order: 1. Leo "Bud" Welch - "Sabougla Voices" 2. St. Vincent - "St. Vincent" 3. Real Estate - "Atlas" 4. The War on Drugs - "Lost in the Dream" 5. Sturgill Simpson - "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music" 6. Afghan Whigs - "Do to the Beast" 7. Woods - "With Light and with Love"

I'm going to see them Wednesday night & am looking forward to it. That record still hasn't gotten old for me.

St. Vincent. Actually I just got home from the show so it was last night. Absolutely incredible. And easy on the eyes.

I've never understood the hate for Monster. My first R.E.M. show also occurred during the Monster tour, and I was a sophomore in college. That was such an incredible year, so I guess it has sentimental value. So hard to believe it's 20.
