  1. The Belgians invented the fries, btw. new Q: Condiment choice for your fries: Ketchup, Malt Vinegar or Mayo (belgian mayo, to be precise)? (guess what I'm jonesing for...)
  2. Some electronic voting machines produce a paper trail. For ours (in orange county, ca), when you cast your vote a receipt is printed that you have to confirm accurately reflects your vote. You don't get to take the receipt with you, but at least you know there's a paper record of your vote associated with the machine - so the electonic totals can be audited if necessary.
  3. That's the key difference here - ACORN brought it to the attention of election officials in the first place when they noticed the bogus registration cards, and I've heard of no evidence that they're trying to hide anything from the FBI.
  4. I found Obama's constant smiling annoying. But at least it was better than McCain's exasperated grimaces and eye rolling.
  5. no shit. let's follow the logic here... service in the military (ANY service, as far as I can tell) makes you automatically qualified to be a teacher, so you don't need to pass any certification tests? You can shoot straight therefore you can teach kids geometry? WTF?
  6. I think I'm an INTP - but it's been 20+ yrs since I took the test.
  7. Of course there are fires. They've been advertising on the news all week that we were going to get some strong winds this weekend - they pyros had plenty of time to plan their orgasmic burns.
  8. indeed, it's about effing time he said something. check out his body language/facial expression as he has to explain to these people that Obama is not the boogeyman. It's like he's finally realizing the stupidity of some of his supporters who've bought in to the whole "he's a muslim terrorist" bs.
  9. right, and they could have easily released those identical statements, but followed them with something like "but we of course do not condone any threatening comments made in the direction of senator obama, and in no way condone inflammatory rhetoric which may lead to violence." but instead, they justify it?!? the "traitor" stuff is bad enough - but "kill him"??? a responsible campaign would at least pretend to be concerned about stuff like that and try to do something to calm things down. these guys are encouraging it.
  10. I heard this one as the best friend from wonder years (the kid w/ the glasses) grew up to be MM.
  11. Westerberg's lyrics resonate with me better than anyone else out there - both back then and now. While I agree that many (though not all) of the most memorable Replacements songs dealt with teen angst, that's certainly not the case for Westerberg's solo career. "baby learns to crawl/watching daddy's skin" gives me chills every time. (Tweedy is the only songwriter that comes close to Westerberg for me) I think a lot of the mats-love among music journalists is leftover sentiment from the mid-80's when REM & the Replacements were both seen as the "college" bands most likely to cross over
  12. I thought Caliendo's GWB impersonation was perfect & hilarious the first time I saw it. His Madden and Rome impersonations are also very good. The other ones I've seen are ok/mediocre. That being said, I haven't watched any FrankTV or been barraged by the commercials many of you complain about - so I guess I'm not the victim of his over-exposure. And Tina Fey is brilliant and hilarious - as Sara Palin and as herself.
  13. what about a road trip w/ his 2 boys to an auto show or nascar race? you could even try to rent a pimped-out caddy or classic hot rod for the drive.
  14. this might not translate well in writing, but at the wedding reception for a friend of mine, the best man ended his toast with: "Ladies and gentlemen, please raise your glasses for our toast to the lucky couple." He then positioned the bride & groom in front of the audience, ensuring that they were facing each other and fairly close together. he then helped them raise their glasses for the toast, subtlely ensuring that the groom's glass was higher than the bride's. "Ladies and gentlemen, a toast... to the last time you see [groom] with the upper hand!!!" Brought down the house - of
  15. Stephanie Miller (www.stephaniemiller.com) has been using that term for Palin on her radio show, pretty much since day 1 (when they discovered that Palin was a former beauty queen AND a moose hunter). [insert plug for Miller's show here - she rawks]
  16. this is awesome http://www.atom.com/spotlights/kung_fu_election/
