  1. I guess I just don't get it. I don't watch Battlestar Galactica.
  2. Blue Eyed Soul. Holy smokes. Heard Tweedy play this solo at Cain's Ballroom 1/19/2007 sandwiched in between Sunken Treasure/Remember the Mountain Bed as the opening three songs; that was a terrific concert. Would love to hear the full Wilco treatment.
  3. From Washington City Paper: "Jack Johnson, as well as DMB and Pearl Jam and Phish and Wilco and the Decemberists and Raphael Saadiq (Saadiq!) and plenty others have donated handpicked songs from their Bonnaroo sets to anyone who writes his or her congressman re: climate change, and the reining-in thereof. Track list, 17 strong, below the jump..." 4. "You and Your Crystal Meth" is really the only song on that record I could do without. I enjoy "Bob," "Lisa's Birthday," and even the Shonna Tucker songs. No, they're not on the same plane as Hood or Cooley songs, but I found them to be refreshing and add a nice balance to the disc. Isbell's tunes were some of my favorites, and I miss them, but I think that Shonna's tunes actually provide a little relief between Hood/Cooley.
  5. In other Thom Yorke news, there are three new tunes of his up on YouTube: http://pitchfork.com/news/38031-watch-three-new-thom-yorke-songs/
  6. Indeed it is/was. Just sayin' I enjoy it the most of all the records released after Cash's death...
  7. This is what I've read too. I haven't listened to it yet, but used to have a copy of IV, with "The Man Comes Around," "Hurt," and "Give My Love to Rose." Pretty good opening three tracks. In my opinion, the best posthumous release in the Cash catalog is Personal File, the set of solo home recordings with one disc of sacred material and another of secular, interspersed with stories and commentary from The Man in Black.
  8. Yeah, I figured this was the response I'd get. My Dad had this CD when I was growing up and we'd be subjected to hearing all 17+ minutes of this tune...drum solo and all. Thankfully he had other discs with better long tunes, like Zeppelin and the Doors.
  9. I just don't understand why it took three killings for them to realize, "hey, maybe this whale shouldn't be used for show anymore!"
  10. Agreed. I've got a few UT live recordings of varying quality that aren't bad, including a show from the Blue Note in Columbia, MO from 1988. My copy of No Depression just crapped out on me this morning during the commute...every track was skipping.
  11. ...and to me, at least, it was a bit of a disappointment, save for a few unreleased tracks and/or alternate versions. There's got to be much more in the Uncle Tupelo archives, but I'm sure that's a can of worms we don't really want to open.
  12. Me too! And I sent it to my brother, and he said the same thing. But I can overlook it.
  13. I too wish to have a compilation of the songs in the film, exactly as they are heard, but gave up on that a while ago. Unless you can rip audio straight out of a DVD and edit it clean, I don't know what else you can do...
  14. Hence the hypothetical question...and why I said "there's only so many similar-sounding versions of 'Handshake Drugs' or 'I'm the Man Who Loves You' I can hear." But there are other people out there who go mad for the live recordings...descending like vultures the day after a show or a webcast looking for a copy.
  15. I'm gonna have to go with the unreleased material. I can only imagine how many tunes are in the Wilco 'vault' that haven't been heard. And as much as I love the live recordings, there's only so many similar-sounding versions of "Handshake Drugs" or "I'm the Man Who Loves You" I can hear.
  16. I won't sling any tomatoes at you. But I will disagree about "I Got You." I see and hear this as an inseparable companion piece to "Red-Eyed and Blue."
  17. Same here. While I love that album, sometimes it feels like it's never going to end.
  18. Nels knows how to fist pump with the best of 'em.
  19. An incredible setlist. Can Passenger Side get any slower? How slow was it?
