  1. I'm sorry...do you mean awesome?
  2. I just think the whole two guitar thing might be...obsolete.
  3. And here he was scheduled to headline the jazz festival in my hometown in October. Bummer.
  4. One of my favorite Tweedy vocals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4hVLBoEP6o
  5. I hear people talk about this one pretty frequently. I think it's a combination of age, quitting smoking and the surgeries he had on his sinuses. His voice is clearer, stronger and a different timbre now. One of the things that I've always enjoyed about Wilco is the way Tweedy's voice has changed over the years, especially hearing him now sing older material. There was that youthful, boyish voice in the A.M. days that cracked; the rough, rock star howl of the Being There tour; the smoky, soulful voice that started to get stronger on MA and ST. I think his approach changed again with YHF - so
  6. I pulled out the Jeff Tweedy show from 3-5-1999 (Harper College) and it's still terrific. A flawless recording.
  7. No apologies necessary, good sir. You are entitled to feel however you wish toward MMJ. I simply do not think they fall in that particular category. I saw some comments on Facebook from people who said that they used to love MMJ live, but that the band doesn't kill it like they used to...
  8. Sounds like another one for the books. Still not sure where folks are getting the idea that MMJ is a jam band. That's the second time I've seen someone mention that in these Americanarama threads. At any rate, I really hope we see a Roadcase compilation of all these rarities.
  9. Just checked out the Port Chester shows. No repeats over the three nights, 67 different songs played. If those sound the best, that seems to be the ticket.
  10. They mix up their sets really well. I really can't stand "Highly Suspicious," though. It doesn't ruin a set for me, but if I purchase a show with it in there, it's getting deleted.
  11. I totally forgot about the official bootlegs. I see recommendations on the Red Rocks and Port Chester shows. Anyone heard the others? I think I might buy one. Or two.
  12. Pre-recorded samples, yes. But not vocals. Two different beasts.
  13. I've been wrist-deep in shit since I've been on daddy duty the last four nights with my seven-month-old, while my wife visits her sister in NYC. Teething + transition to solid foods = hot mess.
  14. they *do* have three upcoming shows in South Africa, which is Dave's home country. Saying they're "virtually unknown" seems like a stretch to me.
  15. My head just exploded. Again. This tour has been one for the books. Hoping for a Roadcase compilation.
  16. "Dondante" live is my favorite MMJ. Pretty much sums up everything they do well. And to hear Carl Broemel rip into that guitar solo -- then bring it back down on the sax -- is just awesome.
  17. I will go so far as to say the versions of "Z" tunes are better on Okonokos than on the album from which they came.
  18. Just when I thought these sets couldn't get any better, they go and do this. Interesting, though, how many people seemed to be upset at Wilco for playing covers at Solid Sound, but we're celebrating them on this tour. I second the Roadcase comment.
  19. They were -- but they were BT/ST/YHF-era figures. Surely those have changed (read: increased).
  20. I would definitely not label MMJ as a jam band. I first learned about them in 2003 around the time "It Still Moves" came out. I bought that and "At Dawn" and was hooked from there. I remember buying "Z" in vinyl in college and making a whole event of playing it for the first time. And "Okonokos," the live record, is also great. Didn't get into their first record after all that - and was pretty disappointed in "Evil Urges" when it came out. Some of it has since grown on me. I enjoyed a lot of "Circuital" as well. All that said, to me, MMJ is more like Wilco than Phish or the Lips. They've
