  1. Seriously, it's so great. Lost among the wealth of incredible material. I think fans of early alt-country Wilco would really dig this album; it mines that same interesting cross-section of country, rockabilly, folk and power pop. He was doing the most interesting things during their time off in 1966. Ringo was at home with wife and child; George went to India to study sitar with Ravi Shankar; John was at home eating LSD; and Paul was going to galleries, art shows, avant garde music performances, mixing it up with the community of underground artists and musicians, absorbing new influe
  2. Not weird at all; more like a loving tribute. He opened with A Hard Day's Night and played a few other John songs.
  3. I saw McCartney in 2015 and he did an awesome version of Mr. Kite, with a super trippy light show and slide show to boot. Seeing him again next month, can't wait.
  4. I love Blue Jay Way! The way its eerie organ intro slowly fades in after the swirling mellotron outro of Flying is brilliant. I think George made some of the best psychedelic music, underappreciated in my opinion. But hey, we can agree to disagree. I'll put it this way; I don't actually skip Mr. Moonlight when listening to Beatles for Sale. I just don't view it as one of the better tracks. I really enjoy AHDN too, though the scales lean heavily toward Lennon since he is the dominant composer on the record. I think "Things We Said Today" is one of the best early Beatles tracks.
  5. The big remaster reissues they did were in 2009. I have the "In Mono" box set from that release and it is truly amazing. The stereo remasters also are terrific. I just bought the Sgt. Pepper six disc deluxe box set because I'm a Beatlemaniac and I love to hear the works-in-progress studio outtakes, early mixes, alternate mixes, etc., plus there's a really well done 200-page hardcover book with photos, essays, track-by-track analysis and insights, recording notes, etc., all together in a really nice package. In essence, all the stuff a Beatlemaniac would want. As for how the 2017 stereo remas
  6. My favorite of the early records is Beatles for Sale, an odd choice to some, but a record I stand by after spending a lot of time with it. The opening trio of No Reply, I'm a Loser and Baby's in Black is an incredible way to kick off a record. Thinking about this opening trio of melancholy, down-on-my-luck songs coming off the heels of A Hard Day's Night, both the album and film, where the cheeky, goofy, moptop Beatles were in prime form. It's a sudden left turn into more introspective songwriting from John, no doubt due to Bob Dylan's growing influence. Baby's in Black in particular is almo
  7. I too share your fascination and obsession. It goes through phases, but it's always there in the back of my mind whenever The Beatles come up in the shuffle, in a conversation...or when they're back in the media for things like the Sgt. Pepper 50th anniversary release. I'll share my thoughts, album by album starting with Rubber Soul, though I think some of the earlier work is deserving of attention and discussion. And I do think mentioning the singles that came between records are important to discuss, as they represent some of the Beatles' best work and also mark significant growth both by Le
  8. Chris' death prompted me to not just reach for a little Soundgarden, but dig up my old CD of Euphoria Morning, his first solo record from 1999. It is a terrific album and showcases that underneath the bare-chested wailing banshee there was a singer/songwriter with a knack for melody, solid arrangements and interesting layers of sound. Not sure what else I could add that hasn't already been said; he will be greatly missed and leaves behind a great legacy as a rock 'n roll artist.
  9. Nice! I haven't seen the blue SG onstage for a while.
  10. What a fun listen. Thanks for sharing! Love those lil' punks. Great to see the next generation latching on!
  11. Jeff solo Roadcases: Kansas City and Denver are both top notch. I was at those shows and there was terrific banter and excellent playing. Wilco Roadcases: Solid Sound 2013 and Red Rocks 2012 are great, but I'd go for the Chicago 20th anniversary Winterlude shows. Every show is on fire.
  12. BE-ING THERE, BE-ING THERE, BE-ING THERE, BE-ING THERE, BE-ING THERE, BE-ING THERE...
  13. On record, yes. Live? Eh...Reservations doesn't use the full band to its strengths. I'd rather hear it at a Jeff solo concert.
  14. I agree that SBS deserves more love than it gets. It was misunderstood upon release but I think time actually has been kind to it. There are just other songs than Impossible Germany to play live...
  15. Let me rephrase my statement: voting for Schmilco would be voting for one of the weaker Wilco albums...and an album that they've already been touring on. Voting for Being There gets you a full set's worth of classic Wilco, including many songs rarely performed by this lineup, some of the best pure rock 'n roll songs, power pop, the old alt-country, psychedelia and all sorts of amazing songs and styles in-between.
  16. Your vote is your vote, but there's no way any of us should collectively pass up the opportunity for them to play all of Being There. Voting for Schmilco would be about half of a set.
  17. Being There all the way. The crown jewel, the album that has it all. Summerteeeth also would be pretty cool, but the album with NINETEEN FREAKING SONGS should be the clear winner here. There's a damn good chance you're gonna hear a chunk of YHF and AGIB anyway. C'mon people, make it happen.
  18. I'm afraid that reference is lost on me, and I'm talking about Jay Farrar.
  19. I just paid $167 each for 2 Macca tickets and got perfect lower bowl seats, the same seats I had when I saw him in 2015. Wichita, Kansas.
  20. Thought the lyrics for Hope the High Road were a little preachy but it's got that nice Isbell sound. I'm sure there will be folks who think they're getting a country record from the title and will be disappointed when it's more rock 'n roll, but I'm very much looking forward to it. After a somewhat wobbly start, his records have been wonderfully and consistently excellent since Here We Rest.
